As I become more immersed into the vaping lifestyle, I realize that this is one of the best inventions in decades. I have not had a cig in over 5 months and it benefits not just myself, but those who were around my smoking (i.e. 2nd hand smoke). It amounts to less cigarette butts on the road. The pros outweigh the cons (what cons?) in every way that I can see. But yet I worry. What are the tobacco lobbyist up to? What would become of the tobacco crops? The economic loss of the tobacco industry is too much for greedy politicians to accept. They will be doing everything in their power to stop this. Including watching forums like this. I don't like seeing the you tube videos of sloppy diy eliquid tutorials (nicotine is highly dangerous apparently). This infatuation with sub ohm vaping seems unhealthy and potentially dangerous. That is a lot of moisture going into lungs.. I just finished reading a thread where people were bragging about chain-vaping non stop all day. To me, it seems that our own enthusiasm and ingenuity is going to lead to the downfall of this industry. How can vaping not be banned? It is just a matter of time before someone dies from improper usage of eliquids or vaping. What is to stop someone from shipping out eliquids with antifreeze as an ingredient or something stupid..? As much as I hate the idea, it seems almost inevitable that this industry will soon be heavily regulated or banned outright. Sorry for being so pessimistic, but I have to post 5 times in this area before I can move on. Didn't really know what to post, but these thoughts have been on my mind a lot.

There's always a degree of justified concern when something that helps people becomes popular without making big corporations and politicians filthy rich. They'll say anything to try and make something seem worse than it is. It's silly because people are allowed the freedom to do all sorts of things which are known to be harmful, like smoking analogs. That's why you see all sorts of commercials and infomercials for the latest prescription drug to treat the side effects of the last one, but rarely see medical professionals encouraging use of cheap, natural sources of better health and wellness. It's very frustrating because spewing nonsense to carry out this type of big-money agenda works much better than it should to keep people uninformed, and hooked on legal, harmful things, while restricting personal choice.

I'm just trying to stay optimistic that the voice of people who have stopped killing themselves with smoke, as well as lack of factual medical evidence against vaping, will keep it as much like it is as possible. I'm hoping for maybe legally vaping ... in the not too distant future. :vapor:

It doesn't matter what they do..

I've been vaping for about 3 weeks and I have accumulated a hefty collection of mods and parts.. with no intention of stopping.
One corner of my basement is starting to look like a store.
I've ordered an obscene amount of supplies to make my own juice and intend to stockpile.
Every smoker in my family and every friend is going to have the same shot at quitting smoking like I just did.

They will have to break down my doors to stop me.. and I have some fine doors.

Not to mention, it's just a matter of time before someone dies from smoking cigarettes. The FDA should be cracking down on those soon too...oh wait...

Not disregarding your concern, I share it with you. Just reveals the hypocrisy of government and how it's not about our well-being, it's all about money.

I came back from out of state with my new PV having switched over before I got back from my trip.

When I returned to Utah, first thing I head about was all this horrible legislation and terrible press that vaping is getting. I thought wow, this is the best thing that ever happened to me, what if they take it away? So I really get your concerns. Next thing I did was start writing letters to let our elected officials know why they were being foolish and reckless with this oppressive legislation. They will keep hearing from me until they finally "get" it.

I don't believe that big tobacco will end e-cigs, I think they will try to acquire it - they're already doing that. And that will be a problem because I think then we will be seeing all kinds of additives in the juice to aggressively hook people on it just like they did with tobacco, and there will be lies and deception.

Personally I hope they will regulate manufacturing of the devices and juices. There should be standards and sanitation requirements - I believe that's coming.

My biggest worry is that it will get taxed because the government likes its tobacco revenue. If people are quitting or cutting back on smoking, the states will enact taxes (I'm guessing on the eLiquid). That's when I will start doing DIY :D

I really don't think e-cigs/vaping is going to go away though.

Well, you could complain about it...

Or, you could vape on while the vapin's good!

No, I agree Zach904. For all the points you mentioned and others I can come up with as well. These are the days we'll never forget.

My suggestion? Get involved with CASAA and sign up for alerts in your state. We may be a minority, but if were a loud, on point and educated minority that is willing to get political...we actually have a chance.

Do you realize what you're asking for here? "Regulate manufacturing of the devices and juices". Yeah, sounds great. What would that look like?

Lab testing of all juice batches. Sounds great. How many of the independent juice makers do it in enough volume to justify the cost? (And then you'd be complaining "$8/ml is way too expensive!") But the big vendors (who happen to be mostly the tobacco companies) wouldn't blink an eye getting their 10,000-gallon batches tested. Nothing to worry about, though. You'll still be able to get BOTH kinds of juices, Tobacco AND menthol tobacco. Both in that 4mg/ml strength that's everybody's favorite!

Regulating the devices? WHAT???

I do agree that there is a very great danger. A product that has shot up incredibly in popularity. It's about a 2 billion dollar a year industry, with over 1000 vendors in the US. The vast majority of these businesses are small, independent operations. There are no safety or quality standards for the product they sell and no regulations on them. Even though they are used indoors, they give off toluene, benzene, and a host of other toxins linked to asthma, eczema and cancer. They cause an estimated 23,600 fires in residences, and result in 1,525 injuries, 165 fatalities, and $390 million in direct property loss EVERY YEAR. Deaths are particularly concentrated among the very young and the elderly. They are frequently used in public spaces, even enclosed spaces.

WE NEED TO REGULATE THESE RIGHT AWAY TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE!!!!!!! OOH!!! The Children!!!

Except that these figures all relate to candles, and particularly scented candles. Never mind, nothing to see here!

Geez. You really want the government to regulate quality of the devices, and whether your juice was made under "Proper sterile conditions"?
There's a lot of great juice vendors here in the US.
And, believe it or not, there are great juice manufacturers in China, too.
If you don't trust your vendors, then why aren't you doing DIY right now. Instead, you want the government to protect you, but as soon as you don't like HOW they protect you (and everybody else) you're more than willing to jump off the reservation and take a risk????????

I share your concern. Recent TV interview with a HS principal talked about high schoolers using vape pens to smoke 'herbal' in the classroom. Video within interview showed an eGo vape pen as being the instrument they used.
Sensational stories like this will portray vaping as being an entry point to smoking dope by teens.
Vaping has a steep hill to climb.

Continuing on about regulation, I already order all of my DIY supplies from a lab that is an FDA registered facility. So where does the FDA take it from there? Outright bans on VG? PG? metal tubes? batteries? resistance wire? cotton balls? Will these all be behind the counter at CVS in our future like effective cold medicine is now? The answer is yes if we continue to look to our inept "leaders" to tell us what is best for us. Screw them. I'll make up my own mind on how I decide to live my life.

Anyway, I'm uber-libertarian; to each their own as long as they're not harming someone else.

The biggest opponent to ECIGS will be the pharmaceutical companies that want to continue to sell their patches, gum and, pills that people will keep coming back to in an attempt to quit.

Anti-smoker groups can eventually be brought around, if done properly.

Big tobacco will just jump into ECIGS without no problem.

The pharma companies will hate to see their low success rate products challenged by a much cheaper product with a much, much higher success rate.
(Of course the tax man will have his say too)

Don't worry, Tommy Chong's son already has plans to sell e-cig parts and DIY supplies on the internet once they are illegal.

For me there are as many problems with regulation of anything as there are without regulation of anything. Got enough battles with regulating my bowels at my age so what the hell do I know. My big beef for personal reasons is with the FDA. Don't trust them to regulate a bottle of water. Other hand, folks want some assurances what is in substances for human consumption. I think the problem with Twinkies was they couldn't fit all the ingredients on the label.

Nicotine might be the only thing made very hard to get some day .... but even then. There's always Fasttech and China. Give the DEA and/or ATF something to do now that so many states are starting to go Super Bowl.

I think there are more important things to worry about when it comes to our government. Our government now believes it has the right to summarily murder it's own citizens without due process which has already happened overseas. There is a belief in our laws and constitution that we are human beings with certain rights. When it was written it didn't apply to native americans, blacks, or woman but over time the people demanded it. They are now killing US citizens overseas (not to mention the 'unpeople' who they have been killing in this way by the hundreds) without trial or any proof of wrongdoing with drones and it will come here if we don't complain about it.

Not even mentioning global warming.

Likewise. Unfortunately, gov't and mainstream media put forth things such as e-cigs and justin beiber as being important issues. These are just distractions from the larger problems at hand that the majority of people, in my experience, are happy to ignore/not learn about.

I must admit I too had the thought about some nut case opening an online business that looks legit but is really a PO Box. Selling e-liquid at competitive prices less 30% with free offers attached. Drawing in a lot of individuals and shipping out liquid laced with poisons of only the lord knows what; killing people deliberately. Sounds far fetched I know. The sign of a guy (me) with too much time on his hands.

Yet ...... remember the fellow who laced the medications in grocery stores and killed people? It happened. The internet is wide open to us all and we all love a bargain. Perhaps it is a slim chance - but if it ever happens - big brother will pounce on light a fat guy on a box of See's Candy! Let's hope I'm paranoid just a tiny bit and wrong a massive amount!

In reality someone could do the same thing with mail order fudge, nuts, salsa or a multitude of other goodies people order ever day because it is a 'good deal' - so I am really worrying about nuthin'!

It would look like the health department being able to inspect the places where juice is made to help ensure that it's not coming from some grubby place by a guy who scratches his bits, picks his nose, and then touches the juice & bottles.

Kind of like they do with restaurants.

I think most if not all of the local B&Ms in my town have sanitary kitchen type areas where they mix the juice. I don't believe that this will pose a new and unnecessary hardship on juice purveyors :)

I personally have not done much research as to the "negative" effects of electronic cigarettes for one simple reason. It is impossible for an electronic cigarette to be more of a health hazard then a regular tobacco cigarette.

Most people here know exactly what ingredients are in their liquids and what they are putting into their body. But does anyone know exactly what makes up a cigarette as far as carcinogens?

Even if a study down the road shows that these electronic cigarettes can cause some minor complications... i would still smoke them because like i said, there is no way they are more dangerous then regular tobacco cigarettes. NO WAY.

What we know as a cigarette today was first invented in the 1830s. Today, about 1 in every 5 deaths in America is related to smoking. Anyone care to do the math and see how many people have died as a result to smoking cigarettes!?!?

If your looking for an easier math problem... tell me how many people have died as a result of an electronic cigarette.

The government is going to do whatever to do to protect one of its largest cash crops. Not only that but the tax they put on cigarettes is what funds alot of projects. Without that tax income what would they do!?! shut down again... We are talking about the US government here. They want their hand in everyones pocket, but once someone starts dipping into theirs, there will be hell to pay, in the form of new taxes lol
