I know this is not disco music, but I was so happy to see that Cat Stevens is getting into one of the music halls of fame. I loved his music back in the late 70s and I had two of his cassettes that I listened to the whole drive across the country in 1977 when I moved from CT to San Francisco when I was 21. Never forget his Father and Son and Morning Has Broken. Would post them but do not want to break form.

If it makes you happy.............go ahead! :)

testing of the theory, all electronica is disco. this is a tame song, i have more electronica that is wierder, and odd combinations of music generes. like one that i cant get enough of is Reggae and electronica combined.

I'm with ya 100% that I (personally) find disco/funk limited. Same with rock. It's the BEAT. The same long, short throughout the songs. It's the beat that seperates rock from blues from disco, from reggae, from country, from pop.

Techno, house, punk (most, but I'm including garage too), dj all usually vary rythms and beats. It's a very different style of music. Not even close to disco. If it was, I'd like it much more. That's why pop is a yawner too (IMHO).

I know this might sound elitist, but it's a simple fact. Any song can be made into a rock, blues, disco, reggae, country song based solely on the BEAT. It's the beat that creates the genre (generally).

Maybe start with Wikipedia on disco. (I'm taking my own advice since there may be more to it than I'm aware of). Everything old becomes new again at some point. Might as well get used to it. High fashion is derived from thrift stores.

PS. Curious, have you heard of Indie Rock Playlist? Great list.

Have you heard his earlier stuff? If you haven't it a real mind-bender. LOL! Totally different. There's even songs about loving/using guns. It's worth hunting down if you haven't. His new stuff is very good too. I'm glad he's recording again.

The only music I dislike is people screaming. Rap,country, disco, techno, jazz, blues, opera, etc are all good some great some not.

There is good stuff to all of it. It's finding the good stuff that's a hassle. I don't know about where you live, but here something like 22 out of 26 stations that play any music is clear channel and 80% of all their stuff is the same, tired commercial bs. There's very little variation unless you like marachachi music. Radio is dead. Thank you "pay for play" music industry. So ppl are stuck with what they grew up with (IMO) or gaming music.

Good stuff exists. I belong to a couple of groups (and know of others) where members screen the internet for new releases; YouTube, bandcamp, soundcloud, etc. Vote up or down, then release a playlist every month or two. They are usually 2-6GB's big and it's not always the highest quality, but it's meant as a sample anyway. I think I like over 50% usually and find a lot of good stuff that's non commercial that way. No Brittnay Spears. Every year there's the SWSX (independent) music festival in Austin and that's free and legal to download. It's over 11GB's now. I think I dump about 40-70% but the keepers are GREAT.

I also have channels I follow on YouTube and Pinterest with similar tastes as mine. Music is word of mouth anymore. The music association game in the lounge has been interesting and I've been reminded of some old stuff and discovered new to me stuff to there. There's a number of ECF'ers with extensive music knowledge. I've also discovered some excellent quality (soundboard) concerts on Internet Archive which is free and legal. At one time they were hosting the entire Grateful Dead catalog. It's around, just not advertised. I had a music blog for awhile and I kept it out of Google. Try Duck duck go (strange name) for finding stuff. Google censors way, way too much.

Yes I've heard of that, I do have a couple of jigs from when I was doing wire art and I'm going to have a look at them too, one is specifically a coil jig, and I have a coil jig on the way from one of the vapers too. I don't remember the names of the jigs I have, it's been about 10 years since I'm messed with wire. I just went and looked and I have the Wig Jig and a Wild wire kit that I will have to take a pic of when I can think of it when I have some time, it has a wire spool holder and several different sized things that you make a coil on. I'll have to see if I remember how to use it. LOL

I have heard the Gizmo works very well for making coils. Amazon.com: Artistic
.

Wire Coiling Gizmo(R) Deluxe Winder for Jewelry Making: Arts, Crafts & Sewing

It's not very expensive and a lot of ppl are using Michael's etc. 50% off coupons to get the price down further. I have one but haven't tried it yet for doing rebuilding, but I don't see why it wouldn't work well. I'm sure there's threads on ECF and vids on YouTube about using it. I've even heard that some b&m shops are carrying them now and I've seen it at a least one online vendor, somewhere in my internet travels.

I think the guy that is sending me the jig is the owner of one of the coiling threads, I've already got my organic cotton for wicks and have my wire lined up, haven't bought yet, but it's all ready. I spend quite a bit of time in the Nicoticket forum as well and at least half of the people there are experienced coil makers, including DI who teaches it via youtube tutorials. I haven't purchased the wire yet because Cliff said something about going to MOV when I mentioned I needed wire, and if we can just drive over there I could save shipping on the whole order. They have really good prices for a B&M, often the best I can find online, I don't do Fasttech.
I'm heading to Sams tomorrow with his cousin so tomorrow is all booked up, lol.

I have read many times about picking up Temco (?) wire really cheap on Amazon. All kinds of gauges. I think wicking there too. Go over to the kayfun lite rebuilding thread, or the micro coiling thread. I think those guys are the most experienced and into it people here. I am real interested in the micro coiling business. From what I read the coils can last for over a month and all you do is replace a tiny bit of cotton wick every so many mls or days. Here comes some fun and we want blow by blow updates once you get going. I am excited for you. Goody Goody!

I can't handle rap and even some screaming is ok, if it is on key, but there was a period of time when it was like they were all off key, that bothered me. My mother sang opera so I grew up on it, love it within reason, my grandmother played classical piano and I adore that.with my classical upbringing anyone singing off key or pitchy really bothers me, it almost hurts. My absolute favorite though is classic rock, that is in my soul.

The only music I dislike is people screaming. Rap,country, disco, techno, jazz, blues, opera, etc are all good some great some not.

My issue with rap, dub or hip-hop is the anger. I also recognize the anger is to screen out ppl like me too. It's a language in itself. I have found a few that I can follow, sometimes I have to look up the lyrics though (a PITA). I like it when it's more musical; M.I.A., The Streets, Arrested Development, Faithless, Tricky, Chemical Brothers, Asian Dub, even some Emienm. It's just stuff I run across. I'm not familar with it enough to tell the difference between the styles, just if I like it or not.

What I can't seem to get used to is growling. I've read about the vocal technique, appreciate and respect there's talent to it and still can't stomache it. I luv System of a Down, but every single song has growling. The only time I've liked growling is Aryeon's Human Equation. I think I listened to that on a loop for 6 months solid and it has growling that worked, esp Day 3 Pain (concept album about a guy who gets into a car wreck, coma and revisits his entire life. Yea, I'm a proggie at heart).

Nickleback drives me nutz. They can't even keep their own timing.

Oh my goodness, Uncle. Thank you so much for posting that. You bring a tear to my eye and put a smile on my face. Shortly after Harvey Milk was assassinated and the Chorus started to do public performances I was lucky enough to be able to see them perform one of their first holiday shows. At the time I lived down on 24th and Delores in Noe Valley, a few blocks from Castro. They have always been quite delightful and provide a wonderful evening of entertainment. I had forgotten how much fun they were. Remember Halloween on Castro back in the late 70s? And Polk Street?

SO - Glad I could and to know that I did brings a smile to "My" Face too . . .

The "Uncle" Smiley

Now to be real honest - Actually, I only visited San Fransico for the first (and only time) time just as I was about to get "My" Undergraduate degree in 1997 (At the Age of 43 - It was "My" Graduation gift to myself) and before I started the Advance Standing Program for "My" Masters degree . . . I "LOVED" it since it reminded "Me" so much of "My" haydays in NYC (Stayed at the Metro Hotel and although "We" went all over San Fransico doing the tourist stuff - of Course "We" went to Castro Street every day) . . .

BTW: "My" Eldest Brother was the one who lived in San Fransico back in the late 60's - 80's (Matter of fact, he was one of the original members of the "Cockettes" and very close friends with John Waters too) . . . And during that same time he was there - I was in New York City . . . I was a New Yorker - even before I moved into the city - I hung out in the Village off and on as a "GAY Street Youth" from 1968 on . . . Very involved in the Gay Movement prior to Stonewall Riots back then (I was there - If "You" want Ya' can read something I wrote here: "Gay Pride" Month Awareness: June 28, 2012 ) . . . Also, I lived and worked a couple of blocks off Christopher Street too (Even knew a couple of Village People personaly before the group started - One of "My" Bars was the one shown in the Video that was posted until the massacre in 1980 and I know a lot of the places in the Video too - brings back so many memories :D) . . .

NOW - If "You" really want to talk about The GAY HIGH HOLLY DAY - HALLOWEEN - I can tell "You" all about what happened in the West Village and on Christopher Street and how "We" closed it down in 1979 too . . . Oh Yea - BTW: I was a member of the New York City Mens Chourus for awhile too . . . I could go on - OH the stories I could tell Ya' - However, I think that's enough about "Me" and "My" History, already said way too much - "You" get the idea . . . Just Sayin' . . .

I'm interested. I've done my own jewelry forever since I'm allergic to metals and need to use niobium or titanium, but love jewelry enough to fuss with it. One of my goals this new year is to weed out my stock of crap since most of it came from thrifts before Michael's etc. started carrying jewelry supplies. Did I hear someone interested in ecig charms? Cheap, cheap, cheap. I seriously have tons and tons of stuff.

Yes, I love that song thrift shop. I'd shop thrifts even with money for the variety. One of the reasons I love Etsy so much is all the creative DIY reuse and recycle stuff people are putting together. I'm so coveting a couple of tunics made out of a variety of sweaters that I can feel them on my body. LOL! I want to learn how to sew for the first time.

Disco was fun to dance to but it didn't take long before I got into punk; Echo and the Bunnymen, Souxsie, Martha and the Muffins, Chumbawamba, Ramones, Dead Kennedy's, Patti Smith, Nina Hagen, Lou Reed, The Residents ... <3

Not really. I was really happy when the era was over.

I'd much rather listen to Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, and many of the others of the punk set.

I'm amazed that despite our disagreements on quite a few issues, I was HUGELY into punk (and later new wave)! LOVED The DK's, and Sex Pistols, and the Ramones, Cheap Trick. After that it was Missing Persons (this was my ring tone for about the last 7 years):

And Adam Ant, Depeche Mode, INXS, Cyndi Lauper....I used to buzz cut half my head, wear gypsy skirts and super pointy shoes, all black...was super into politics and the environment...and that's when I started smoking, drinking, doing "other stuff". My, how things have changed.

If long hair is "in style", I'll wear mine short. Feel free to disagree, just don't take it personally. I'm drawn towards passion, creativity and originality. Opinions are like water.

Gary Numan "Are friend's electric" still is a fav. I have a feeling that's going to be next on our music night.

I just realized this stuff like the song above, came out at the same time disco came out (really crappy memory here). That might explain some of my confusion because I did both. Remember 4AD records?

I do love classic rock and roll as well. I just find value in almost all genres. There is always some brilliant person that gets it right. Since I no longer can do much of what I once did, I don't listen to as much music as I did before. I used to listen to do heavy housecleaning to motivate me. I listened in the car, rarely go out. I used to listen while I cooked, I don't cook like I used to . So, sadly its become infrequent.
I sang opera and show music from 13-21 years old, so I do have a fondness for both. I can't do it anymore, and lately since the last cold, I feel like a blues singer raspy voice is the best I could do.
