He figured in a couple of long walls and some painting. I specifically went on about my fear of mold. He said that contractor will address it. And if cost is more than what he allowed for, we can submit additional invoices and if not too much over they will cover. I think I want to do the arguing up front and get what I can in the first check. Not likely they will want to give a second. Like how auto claims are settled, if you do not get it right off they make you sign a release.

Our friend that is a contractor is sending us major signals that he does not want the job. Either he is worried about mixing business and friendship, or he knows we are going to be PITA that it is done right, or he thinks he will not make enough. Says only hardwood he has equipment for is the prefinished. That is bs because he has built a couple of houses and would not spend the extra for prefinished. I do know he hates doing sheetrock and there is tons of that on 9ft ceilings for this job. So I will start contractor shopping. I hate that part. They all lie and claim you are getting a Ferrari and try to give you a Yugo. Constant babysitting on our part will be necessary. We thought we did that 8 years ago when they did the upstairs and things still got by us.

The ins adjuster did say that the pipe that burst was not done properly, or the best way when installed. We had permits and the city inspected and passed so there is no problem that we are covered. We are not plumbers so how are we supposed to know all this stuff.

Yeah, Jazz, I am thinking the color matching with that hardwood too and refinish. And extend it through to living room instead of that ridiculous idea regarding carpet in there. Have to read the report. At least he is going to provide line items of what is covered and how much allowed for replacement. Have to figure out how to argue for enough to do work proper. Unless an insurance company will really give what it will cost to replace. Ha Ha. I seriously doubt it.

Refinish the other adjoining wood floor for a color match maybe?

That carpet deal is wrong - should be the whole room (run) can't match it.

We had a roof leak that damaged some ceiling tiles - the insurance covered all - not just the half dozen or so that were wet.....

And what about drywall? (Not just the ceiling)

That's exactly what I'm doing, Thaya--getting my diet in order again. I've lost 23 lbs. so far, and my blood sugar levels are starting to get back on track.

Unfortunately, I'm still smoking. I have changed from regular strength to ultra-lights, so I'm working on harm reduction in that regard, too. Next step is to try vaping again. With my last COPD exacerbation, I couldn't vape at all (not even 100% VG juices) without coughing up a lung. Hopefully I can work that out soon.

I'm sorry Lox, I apparently didn't even notice that part of the post I quoted or I wouldn't have quoted it.

ECF rules prohibit discussion of illegal and illicit drugs. They also prohibit circumventing the forum censors by spelling things wrong.
Please refrain from that type of behavior in pif. There's nothing I can or will do should someone report your post or an ECF moderator decide to give you an infraction.

I'm so proud of you for getting your diabetes under control. It really is a lifestyle change that is healthy for diabetics and non-diabetics alike. I keep putting it off, but I will regret it by that time.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been unable to vape due to your COPD issues. Isn't it amazing that smoking is so much worse for us, but we can still do it even when vaping is a problem. What the hell do they put in those things? I hope you're able to resume soon. Keep us posted on your progress.

P.S. Post more often, Dolores. I always feel like you're the silent partner. You're around, but not heard from often enough.

Congrats Karen on veteran status. I did not realize you have been here for a year.

Kraft foods and Chinese food does not go together in the same sentence. No one can tell me otherwise. Same with Japanese.

I have insurance adjusters on the brain. I can not even get excited about shopping for hardwood and kitchen islands right now. I am afraid to find out what this all is going to cost. I know sheetrock is ridiculous and we need tons of it. But granite is so yummy.

I have two 10 foot long wall units I have to empty and pack up. One is not bad, books and similar. But my display unit is all precious collectibles and trips up and down stairs to attic for boxes and tissue paper. It is going to take days. Hubby would not let me touch anything until after adjuster saw everything. Ugh.

I spent the evening at the court house with the Boy for his shortstop class. Which is a sort of "scared straight" type of thing. We were there for almost 4 hours and he has a ton of homework that needs to be done before we go back in 2 weeks. We also have to go to 5 of their counseling sessions in addition to the private counseling I already have him in. I hope the Boy learns something from this experience and stops being such a knuckle head. I would have liked it to be a little scarier than it actually was. Kids are jaded these days by video games and internet. It takes more to get through to them.

Delores, I wholeheartedly second Thaya's post. I am diabetic too. It is so hard to eat right, especially when you are busy or stressed. And salad does not call out to me like pasta or bread. Or cheesecake or.............. I could go on and on; you get it.

I think it is criminal what the tobacco companies must be putting in cigarettes to make them not tear up your throat and lungs when you smoke them. Especially when sick and a person should not be smoking at all. It is all politics and money. That is the reason I hope BT does not manage to control vaping and devices. We will be in trouble. No way they will not do the same thing to eliquid. Too much money and they already have the ok to do it with the cigarettes. They will get it through so just they can follow their own rules. All else will have separate set of rules. Bet that is how it goes.

I truly hope your efforts are rewarded and your son realizes what's in store for him if he doesn't change things. I'm sure it's very difficult for you both, especially with what you're going through now.

I've been where you are with your son and I know how hard it is to deal with. I wouldn't wish what I went through with my 2 oldest sons on anybody. Keep doing everything you can and keep encouraging him. One day he'll see the light, hopefully sooner than later.

The Kraft with the Chinese was using their frozen veggies which isn't bad. I use fresh when I can. I like the taste. I settled for Ramon with Chinese spicy mustard. That was the best I could find. I have to look in the supermarket for things I might be able to cook fast to achieve the flavors I want.

I do have that sauce I'm using tomorrow, I haven't tried it with much other than pork chops yet.

I think a public adjuster is similar to a home inspector, an independent adjuster that will decide on the cost to repair your home, so that you have another professional quote on the cost of repairs. This could cost you the same as the amount he recovers, Lox probably knows more about that. I would call various contractors to come out and give you estimates on what he agreed to do so far and what you want him to do. Get the contractors to tell you if it makes sense to do things the way he wants to and get it in writing. The more that agree with you the better. I don't think it can be just for aesthetics, it has to be for structure and safety issues.

I would hate the display with the books, last time I moved a box of books it made me sick for at least a week. I do collectibles easily. I have a closet with empty boxes for everything. It's a big closet dedicated to just that.

Me too Thaya. Me too. We have been having some talks lately about choices and consequences and I hope I'm getting through to him. I try to be a good example and set reasonable boundaries. In the end it comes down to him and the choices he makes. Can't lock him in a closet.

On an unrelated topic, someone PIFed a juice win to me from the vape tree. I just sent in my flavor choices. Excited to try it. I've heard only good things. :)

Vickie, I hope that your son not only realizes that he needs to change but that he realizes what a wonderful Mom he has. These days many mothers just give up and let the kids do what they want. Or put them in delinquent homes. It isn't easy to raise kids, I sometimes feel that maybe it was a favor that I didn't have them. I don't know how I would have handles all of today's troubles.

Just dealing with my nephew is hard enough and now his girlfriend. Her mother won't do a thing for her it's criminal since she's really a good kid. It makes me so mad, that she won't help her, I'm not talking financial they are fine that way, He's making $600 a week now, I'm talking emotionally. She wanted to go to college, her mother won't even give her paperwork to prove residency in the state to get instate tuition. It won't cost her 1 thin dime. I called her myself.

So Vickie, I think that he will come around. You are giving him everything he needs.
