Okay all. I need some help with a Man Type major issue. Input from both sides of the aisle is welcome and appreciated.

Dear hubby made a Major Announcement over dinner tonight. He says that he and his 'contractor type friend' are going to design and build my new kitchen island from scratch. This is a nightmare and we will never be able to sell the house and I will not longer be able to look at my kitchen. Dear hubby does not have the, how do I put this, taste and style to design said island, let alone skill. I am 99% sure the contractor type buddy does not either. I am having heart palpatations and am hyperventilating over this. And on the verge of a nervous breakdown or doing serious damage to DH's body.

If he does this the house will never sell down the road. He does not have the skills to pull this off. I want to go a buy one, a Home Depot or Lowes one would be acceptable, I was hoping to go to our local Amish community as they do some beautiful work for reasonable $. How do I prevent this disaster from happening. The normal cake routine will not work. I exclaimed, 'no way in hell' when he said it and I think I offended him. I know I did. Now it may be all about his manhood. I blew it. Help......... Please.

The island has to house the sink and a built in dishwasher and counter seating so it is not a simple slap it together build. It is the focal point to a huge kitchen/dining room.

You didn't blow it....I am a high end remodeling carpenter, and custom woodworker in the S.F. bay area.Alot of men believe that since they have testicals they know how to build, rather than since they have testicals they like to build.Craftsmen put in alot of time learning their craft it isn't a question of hormones, alot of men like to tinker with their cars, heck so do i sometimes, but I let my mechanic put in the brakes, it doesn't make me less of a man because I don't have all the tools, training,or inclination to do my own brakes.....let him build the back deck,or planter boxes, or barbaque pit, but leave fine woodworking to craftsmen.

The only thing that matters is referals, referals, referals, you ask your friends for people they have hired, ask relatives, ask co-workers,if you see a project going on that looks wonderful ask the owners about the builder...but get referals.....I know guys who have brand new 40,000 dollar trucks and 1,000 dollars worth of tools, and I know guys who own 3,000 dollar truck and have 30,000 dollars worth of tools and know how to use them.
Shari for estimates I'd call the bigger construction contractors. Higher overhead than "Joes I got a truck with ladder racks contracting" means higher estimates ;)

I agree with you 200%. My question is, how do I get him to back off from his idea of building the island. I need to have him let US pick out a ready made one or a custom made one, made by a professional cabinetry person. How do I get from here to there?

Yep you blew it alright, your reaction was a blow below the belt, much grovelling required to repair seriously injured ego. Then figure out a way to make what you want seem like it is his idea. Even if you are right and he is wrong you need to be tactful, even when the male of the species is allowed to say whatever they please.

tell him his skill is as a lover, not a builder. or tell him you'd rather he built the back porch and not the island....even skilled tradesmen have trouble building things on budget, let the proffesional do there job.Look women are the same way....they think by virtue of having a uterus they have taste, that they know about design, nothing could be farther from the truth, sometimes in a project you have to tactfully point out the wife the merits of having a trained architect do his job.

Shari,

(hopefully Equality won't take offense ;-)

Explain to him that with all you guys have on your plate, doing a kitchen island is just a waste of his time and resources. You need him for the more important stuff.

Might help if you have a long "HoneyDew" list of all the other stuff that's on his plate from this incident.

Exactlly the honey dew list is a brilliant idea, and if all else fails bribe him with sex or,tell him you'll buy him whatever mod he wants if he'll stay out of it.....even if you have to pay out for a GGTS and a taifun you'll still come out on top in the end.

Thanks for the link thayamax. I have hundreds of gifs downloaded on my PC. Just wanted to share them. They work else where.

GIFs are animated JPGs. When displayed on your desktop or in a picture viewer on your PC you just get one of the animation frames. It's been a while since I built a web site so I don't remember specifically how site bilders get them animated on the net.

I knew I blew it as soon as it came out of my mouth. But it was a spontaneous reaction to something so startling that it could not be helped. Panic ensues. Of course, he is now sleeping peacefully while I am going back and forth between shaking with fear and anger and apprehension. I can not let him build that island. Oh glory be.... I do not grovel well.

ETA: Oh geez. I just realized you said grovel AND tack in the same sentence. I am doomed!!!

Yes, mdw, it is correct. I have a couple of them that I have to use on my MVP2 to use my Evods. Found that out after I got the device. Supposedly it is not all of the MVP2s that you have to do this with. That is why you will read people saying yes you need the adapter and then 2 posts down someone else saying, oh I do not use an adapter.

It is the center pin on the MVP2 that is set lower than most other mods. There are other toppers that people talk about having to pull the pins down on the topper to get it to work. The adapter works perfect for me and several other people I know of.

There is a similar type problem with some RBAs and cartotanks and the Provari I have read about. Everyone says if you are going to pull a pin up to do it on the topper so you do not weaken the pin on your device.

Just for your info, I have to use a 510 to 510 adapter to use my 510 attys with a drip shield. Lots of little surprises and adaptations in the vaping world.

Ahhh thank you ShariR for the reassurance. In my madcap ordering adventures this past weekend, I ordered several 510-EGO adapters and several 510-510 adapters and drip shields, a few inexpensive drip tips, and 2 Avid HH.357 bridgeless drip atomizers (1 long 1 regular).

So, based on what you've said, I should have enough adapters to deal with whatever unknowns I'm about to run into, thank goodness. I'm just about outside of my comfort zone right now, but thanks to everybody here I feel as though I bought the right stuff to venture into dripping just a TINY bit, which is all I need to do.

Many have described being at a point that they feel pretty good about, in that they're doing what they want for the moment.... advances or changes to be made possibly in the future. That's where I am now, and I feel as though I have the gear I need to give juices a fair test, and enough juices to sit on long enough to "hatch" (that IS what we're supposed to do for "steeping," right? sit on 'em for a few weeks, don't move? listen for cheeping sounds?)......

Not even a bleep of urge for a cigarette, God love a duck! hurray! I've almost kind of forgotten, and kind of don't care, which is just awesomely amazing.

Congratulations Jim on the MVP2. You are going to love it. And Marla, same to you. Here is a link to the MVP2 owners group and a few links for our new people to get you off on the right foot. Glad you all are here and love that you are being active with us and asking questions.

ShariR, thanks SO much for all those links all in one nice happy place -- REALLY appreciate it. Some I knew about, others I didn't - you did a great service for those of us still feeling our way around this vast reference forum!

I just got a call from my son. I am going to be a Grandmother tonight (or tomorrow). My daughter in laws water broke and they are at the hospital.

It should not take long. The little guy has been fighting for weeks to come out. Now let's see how long he takes to get here. OOhhhhh! I am so excited!

WOO! I can't wait to keep reading and find out what happens! I'm right behind you -- my #2 granddaughter is due in a few weeks! SOOOOO much fun! Nothing compares!

Marla, be careful with those hh357 attys. They have to be slowly and carefully broken in. Use a clear, light juice and start with lower temps (volts) and work your way up slowly. This I have read from several hh357 users in various threads over the months. These guys are experts with them. Too much money to take a chance with them. You will do fine. Sounds like you did your research and bought the little things and finer nuances I missed in the beginning. I see happy, flavorful clouds of vapor in your future. :vapor:

After 20 years together we get on pretty good with each other. We know each other's buttons and try not to push them. I pushed one with the island, and he pushed back with the build it himself. But I think he is serious. I am hoping that he will think about it and know food is more important than fluffing his ego. I do love him though, quirks and all. And he does pretty good putting up with my quirks. We can both be more than a bit stubborn so sometimes these incidents can get interesting. Most turn out funny in the end. Just not during them. Next year we will be laughing about the Island. At least I hope so.

He has never smoked and does not get my vaping, but is happy I am not smoking so he tolerates it in the house. Even though he does not understand it. Thinks it is like smoking.

We joke about him burying me under the poolhouse. Or I will tell him to just take me out back and shoot me when I get too old. But we keep saying to each other that we are not done making each other miserable yet. Of course, with a smile and a kiss.

Damn shari your husbands lucky.....I live in fear of my wife........I mouth off to her she'll stick a rusty shank in my behind........wise man once say .....happy wife, happy life.

It makes me happy to hear that you did like the links. I bookmark certain links so when I am up late at night in the New Members Forum I can post some of them to help people find certain types of info easier. It is hard to find your way around here sometimes. And one link may lead you to another. I am glad that it helped you. That is my intention.
