Man I am really struggling with the wicking. The very first time I built, everything was great, wicked perfectly, etc. etc.

Everytime since then I'm see-sawing back and forth between dry hits, airflow leaking (like a lot) and just horrendous juice-guzzling spit backs.

The problems all started when I started playing with the Cotton Bacon V2 I just got, so I switched back to my KGD, and I've at least stopped the leaking, but god the spitting. I can't figure out what I've done differently from that very first time (beyond build a different coil, went from .4 ohm twisted 28 to .3 plain 26).

I tried doing the method where you trim the wick close to the deck before putting the chimney on, but that just led to juice pouring out the airholes. So I'm back to the bunny-ear method, like I used the first time, but it's not working like it did then.

I know that as a general rule spitting means not enough wick in the coil, but I feel like I'm already wicking these as tight as I can get, and I don't want to go back into dryhits.

I'm flailing here.

*edit* Aaand scratch that. Haven't even fixed the leaking, found a nice pool on top of my mod. AAAARGH. I'm just putting this thing away for now, I want to vape, not drain and build over and over again all night long.

*edit edit* So, when I drain it and pull the chimney off, everything looks fine. There's plenty of wick over the channel, a little bit in the channel, I can't see why it's leaking so hard. The only thing that seems potentially problematic is that I'm running such tiny coils in there right now, 4/5 wraps of 26. So the coils are only over like 40% of the airflow slot's width, which means there's no way to avoid some of the wick slumping onto the air slot when it gets wet.

Would that really be causing so much leaking and/or spitting? I can't believe that in everything I've read and watched about the Gmini people would forget to say "oh yeah build your coils big enough to cover as much of the airflow as you can."

Unfortunately that's pretty much exactly the bunny ear method I used the last time it started dumping on top of my mod :/

When I started rebuilding I had a hard time myself. I was always very picky about wicking... they don't have to look pretty just have to work. Every tank is different some need more some need less cotton. And if you are tired of fiddling around you should get a tank with premade coils ;)

Definitely try a longer coil. Even if you have to twist some wire to get your preferred resistance. I do think your wicks may be dripping down the air slots.

Take a third of the cotton of your tail and run it down to the bottom where the chimney closes to((channel). Cut the other end of tail back that goes inside chimney. Trimmed so you can fold it out of the way of air hole. Too much cotton makes a problem. Try this. Hope it helps!

Where did you get the black drip tip on your mod with the red button? Looks good.

I got it from Vape Royalty, went to get you a link but they don't have them anymore.

It's one part of a 2 piece Airflow Control drip tip. That part is the sleeve that fits over a delrin stem with holes to allow you to regulate air from the drip tip.

It just happens to fit over the Goblin Minis Glass drip tip perfectly ;)

Everyone is gonna say try this method and they may or may not work for ya and I'm gonna be one .I threw mine in the garbage can after 9 tries.I dug it out and evaluated WHAT I was doin wrong.I had pretty much the same problems.Mostly leaking through the air channels. Here is what I do.I stick the cotton through the coils, cut said cotton diagonally inline with the length, ending with something like a paint brush tip/tear drop, then juice the cotton, then stick the tip down into the slot for the juice,to the bottm of the channel..Make sure air ducts are free, coils are lined up over air ducts and not gonna touch tube, recheck screws are tight and ya should be GTG.

One other thing,I hope I understood the crackiling/spurting part.Try adjusting the wattage. Each juice has a different "flash point" for lack of better word.I have several settings that work for 70/30 50/50 etc juice.hope what I said helps some. Also this condenses alot underneath,at least for mine.good luck..

Ah, damn. I've never heard of that before, but yeah, as soon as I took a real close look at the last wick that flooded on me my eye immediately said "man that's a lot of empty air slot space the wick is sitting on." Good to get it confirmed I guess.

Bah. Well, I suppose I could also go for spaced coils instead of contact to try and minimize the change to my resistance.

You mean like put some of the tail in the actual channel? I'm afraid of that method choking the channels and leading to dry hits, although I suppose all the dry hits I had before were with other techniques, and the juice channels are crazy big.

You don't get any dry hits? The "juice and mold into the channel" technique is the one I haven't tried at all, cause everything I'd watched and read prior to this was pretty adamant that it would lead to dry hits. I also go through some pretty heavy chain vapes throughout the day, so the juice flow has got to be really on its game.

Crackling and whatnot I don't mind, it's the actual spitback that was causing me the issue, like "drink it up" levels of spitback. Although I guess I have no way to properly evaluate how much of a problem that would actually be if the tank hadn't been on its way to flooding.

zero, zip, nada dry hits and I'm up with ya on the chain vape.flow is poifect..now I get what ya mean on the spit back. That's too much juice in the chimney. For me, what I explained about the coils was perfect.I put the unit upside down and zero leakage.

this guy does it like I do.Although he doesn't have a good on camera DYI it does show the points I tried to explain.

Ah, yeah I've seen that vid. I discounted it very early on when I saw how many people were doing easy-peasy dry wick methods and decided juicing first looked unnecessary.

But I guess now I gotta give that a try.
when ya do your cotton, slide it in and make sure it isn't tight in the coil(s).Probably don't have to tell ya that but it does make a difference.I just found that vid cruising other builds.LOL.I tried the single coil, didn't care for it and the duel coils hit the spot.

Alright, Aromamizer finally needed to be rewicked, so I transferred that motivation to rebuilding the GMini. Thank god I did.

I mean building it was actually kind of a nightmare, I lost all my building confidence after so many problems, so it was pretty white knuckle lmao. Like a bomb defusing movie scene.

Went back and forth 20 times between "oh my GOD there's so much cotton it's gonna nuke itself" and "oh my GOD there's no cotton it's gonna spray out the airholes like a bad porno" so the wicks looked pretty well mangled with all my hack and slash and molding by the end heh. But they seem to be working. Halfway through the first warmup tank and nothing but the normal GMini condensation, where the last two builds had flooded by this point. I haven't risked giving it a good hearty chain vape yet, but been taking regular hits every couple of minutes and it's holding up.

And oh man the flavor. The flavor.....I'll be in my bunk.
