Willpower is a very small part of quitting. There are so many factors to why,how ect people get started, biological psychological ect. Will expound on this tomorrow. My ride is here....

right I know, addiction is addiction whether cigs ,alcohol etc .I meant For me at the point i'm at ,after 7 months ,it is now sheer willpower .Thats just where I am at NOW and not referring to anyone else .

My first thought was AWESOME!!!!
I found them while looking up info on Hookah. I had tried everything to quit smoking but kept going back to it. Well, maybe not everything. I tried the gum, patches and cold turkey. I had decided that I would just switch to smoking my hookah, so while searching for tips I ran across the ecig and thought "It's like a handheld hookah that I could use everywhere without all the hassle and cleanup!!" So I went for it! Quit completely and then started smoking again. Round 2 is going pretty good though, it has been 7 months and 13 days :)

And Waylon, not everyone has that crazy willpower thing. I still can't bring myself to vape around my smoker friends (although I have once or twice). When I'm around them I bum cigs off the dh. So don't beat yourself up. I look at it like I'm allowing myself to have them, I'm no longer a slave to them, I have a choice. And then the next day when I'm craving because I smoked half a pack the night before, I reach for my ecig. You aren't alone :)

Aww Thank you Harmony ! EXACTLY .That's where i am at .My hubby has not been that understanding tho .:( We miss you around here greatly on the forum ! I love the fact that im not a slave to them anymore ...no more running to the store either :)Some of my friends still smoke too and its very hard to vape then .But ,like you I do go back to the ecigs .Yeah .

Several years ago, I walked into a smoke shop to buy a carton of Marlboro Medium 100s, and saw an eCig on the counter. I asked about it, and when she told me what it was, I kinda' laughed. She looked at me like I just kicked her puppy. But still, the idea seemed really silly to me.

Wasn't until recently when my kids were really stepping up their "Daddy, please don't smoke anymore" campaign and I saw an ad for Blu that said "Don't quit, switch!" that got me thinking.

Really wish I would have gotten into this sooner!

I used to purchase Marlboro Reds by the carton online from an Indian reservation. They weren't the Marlboros exported to Switzerland and then exported back to the US, and those tasted different anyway. I placed orders with them from 2000 to 2009. Over the years I paid with a credit or debit card, and in the later years the credit card issuers stopped allowing transactions for cigarette purchases. The seller could only take EFT transfers for purchases, so I paid that way although the shipping time had increased.

I looked for other analog cigarette sellers in the spring of '09, and noticed online ads for electronic cigarettes. I was skeptical, and thought it was a scam. I didn't understand how they worked and had never seen a real one, nor had I heard of anyone I knew using one. Not even "a friend of a friend" reference. I did some research but it was overwhelming me. I mostly found scammy-looking sites selling e-cigs. I saw lots of typos on these sites and I refuse to purchase from those who think spelling doesn't count. What I wanted to find was unbiased vaping 101, not retailers, not yet. I found the NJoy site and thought that was what I wanted. I incorrectly believed it was made in the USA and I didn't want to buy Chinese. When I realized it was Chinese, I thought "well, I have to find a USA-made e-cig then."

I found ECF and did more research but it made my brain hurt. Seemed like a whole new language was being used that I never heard before, but this was the type of information I needed to make a decision. I was frustrated by the vast amount of information and afraid of making a poor buying decision. I lost interest and continued to smoke.

February to April 2010 was when the heavy duty research took place. I realized that there were still no American manufacturers, so that part of my criteria had to go. I asked for advice on the new members forum and that led me to V4L's forum. Bornagainst was very instrumental in my decision to make V4L my vendor of choice.

I don't regret my decision. The KISS principle was what I wanted, and V4L fit the bill!

Got lucky and didn't have to deal with scam websites. Met a fellow V4L user in a doctor's office who showed me how it worked and gave me a card. He told me he was vaping Dr. Pepper. I was immediately excited. I had no desire to quit smoking since I loved everything about it, but this seemed like common sense, a better alternative. Got my first kit, fell in love instantly, and never looked back.

My first reaction to vaping was "Hell, I just had a collapsed lung, I better find something that is like an electronic cigarette, and quick!!!" But when I tried it, it was the horrid tobacco flavor that every smoke shop gives out with the electronic cigarette's (Sorry V4L, my first thing was not with you guy's) And I hated it. But then I went to V4L, ordered some cool menthol stuff, and fell inlove with it!

I think I first saw the concept in an online ad sometime in '09 or '10 and like others thought it was a scam. I did a little bit of research but wasn't really intruiged. I loved smoking and never wanted to give it up. I was usually a 1.5-2+ PAD smoker. I think it was late 2010 when one of my friends got his Tornado Tank and tried to talk me into it. I kind of blew it off and thought of it as "quitting". Plus that thing is huge. Like smoking a Cuban or something.

Over the years my health had continued to decline because of the cigs but I just ignored it because I enjoyed the habit. Then finally the cost and local restrictions started to rise and my sister was pressuring me to try the e-cig or quit.

What finally kicked it off for me was Lent. I wanted to do something difficult so I finally relented and dove in headfirst with e-cigs. I figured I'd give it a shot for 40 days and see what happened. I think my mindset was right, but the added motivation of Lent surely helped keep cravings away.

Unfortunately I started with V2cigs (I absolutely loathe that company, but let's not get me started on them) and thankfully when things fell through and I was close to going back to cigs I found V4L and never looked back. Been smokie free since 3-16-11 and I love it.

I once made fun of "those stupid things" along with all the other ignorant people in the room, but I was also secretly intrigued. It took a while to be intrigued enough and fed up enough with smoking to try.

In the end, I rented The Tourist and Johnny Depp convinced me to spend 4 hours doing online research. Thanks to ECF and this particular forum, I ended up placing my first order with V4L the very next day

It is quite funny how movies intrigue us so easily about something... And it is good that there is a movie that shows the use of E-cigs.

Yes KK, it's good to have the movie exposure. I can't wait for weekly TV show exposure. If anyone here watches "Burn Notice" on USA network airing Thursdays, you know Sharon Gless is an analog chimney. The role is perfect because she is really smoking and she's a heavy smoker anyway. Always hoping that one day they write an e-cig into the storyline even if it's only for one episode.

I was thinking the same exact thing! Idk how they would put it in there though. Maybe Michael could be like "Mom, there is someone after you, and you leaving those cigarette butts around, they can get your DNA off it, here try this" Or something like that? Idk, just a wild guess

I think it would be a good fit for a patient on House. With the bickering team, you could have the one person saying the stuff about antifreeze, then House calls them an idiot, so they switch to saying it hasn't been proven safe. In the end, they find that it's a seemingly unrelated disease that was accidentally held in check by the propylene glycol or even just the nicotine. Oooh, yeah! What if the symptoms of the mystery disease started after the patient switched to nicotone-free juice!?

Now THAT would be an awesome episode :)

Love it, KK!
Or, if for any reason they ever have to live under one roof, one of them could develop an allergy forcing Mike's Mom to smoke outdoors. She'll hate that and then maybe one of the other 4 main characters will get her a V4L starter kit, AND she likes it. She has to like it, or no go!

Liking this too! Here's where it'll never work...on Sons of Anarchy. Just picture any of them using an e-cig and the rest of them saying how stupid it looks. Although Piney might have been able to pull it off without much censure, it's too late for him now. :(

Agreed! On a related note, I think Katherine Heigl's vaping on Letterman's show was an important moment in vape history. The fact that Dave actually tried it and clearly enjoyed it was powerful in at least some small way. Positive exposure is good. Thanks, Dave.

Jeffree That was the first time I ever heard of/saw an e-cig. Since I DVR Letterman I went back & watched it several times then said to myself "self... you gotta get one of those" and the internet search began.

Ooh, ooh!!! (Mercy, I sound like Horshack!) That's exactly what I thought too, while watching the new season premier last week! I love Maddie, she smokes like I used to, and her whole attitude/persona completely rocks! If she switched to e-cigs (I think it would have to come from Sam, not Michael), she would be a fierce promoter of vaping!!

Nana, I saw that Heigl bit 'live' and was pretty sure that millions of peoples' image of vaping improved in an instant, at least one minor tick upward. Your story speaks to that beautifully. Thanks for adding it here!

As you know, Heigl didn't mention things like the tasty flavs and focused instead on the stop-cigs angle. But hey, she was upbeat, even wildly enthusiastic and so... real. And Dave's obviously heartfelt blessing added the perfect sha-zing! to the moment.

When I saw it, I had a flash of something I now feel very strongly, in a totally selfish kind of way--that if we can have a few more of those big shiny moments nationally in the coming year, the long road of Vaping will look straighter and smoother. The fog will clear. And I'm not talking about a "Good Morning America Pros-and-Cons Analysis of Vaping" on NBC, of course. I hope we'll see some real joy and rapture from key faces who sing our song. You know what I mean.
