The beauty of RTV silicone is that it is so dern easy to mold. I played with some sheet stock, punches, and the like.. but at the end of the day I'm going to want a molded "cap" that pops in, doesn't rock, is thin in the middle.. and has a hole or a slit or a whatever in the middle. That will be VERY easy to make from liquid RTV, a cut up cart, and a dead atomizer.
Time permitting.. perhaps tonight. Dunno... I've got one of those "wife" things.. and a "kid" thing too.... They tend to get in the way of "me" things.

Ok Scott lets talk about this... I think what your talking about is cutting a cart in half so you can sqeeze in silicone.. well insert the dead atty first then sqeeze in silicone... I love that idea! thicker walls would stop the ends from curling up wich I beleave is why some are having leaking problums. The leak i dont think is coming from the hole its coming from around the sides when there is to much presure on the plug it will fold inward on itself... My fix for this instead of cutting straws 10 difrent sizes till you get it perfect is to not put the cart all the way down on the atty just a lil at a time till it starts to hit, that way I know the sides wont pop up and let juice leak.. however doing with raw silicone you could eliminate that..

Now that said how would you go about getting the dry silicone off the atty? Im thinking maybe seran wrap? or do you wait till its semi dry and moldable? I dont know never made a mold tell me whats on your mind:pop:

I was wondering the same thing. I've cut a cart in half to use as a mold. I thought that perhaps once the silicone is dry I could push it out. I'll let you know tomorrow.

I just did a quick experiment with calking I dont have any sillicone..but just want to see if its going to work.. I sprayed the inside of the cart with cooking spray for lube.. once the calk has set up a bit im going to cut a peice of cooking bag, spray it with cooking spray, lay over the mold and press it into the atty.. ill let you know how that works out.. Im thinking it would leave a really nice impression on the calk then when I pop out the plug I can shave the back of the plug down with a razor till I get to a hole in the center.. this is kinda fun i love projects:D

You guys have already read my mind.. so there's not much to add. I use a 901 cart, so my opening is larger and it has more of a tendency to tilt and rock. I need a more stable plug.

I plan on cutting the cartridge up.... actually, I already have. I have the cartridge that is left over from my "mouthpiece end filler" experiment. I'll take the dead atty and slather just a little bit of Teflon grease on the bridge as a "release agent". I'll also put a little bit on the inside of the cartridge tube. Don't want the RTV to stick to either of them. Then I'll put the cartridge tube on the atty and back fill it with the RTV. I know that I'll overfill it.. but that's OK. Once the RTV is cured, I can pull the cartridge tube off, and pop out the plug. Once cured, the overall length of the plug will be easy to trim with a razor blade or Xacto knife. I'll probably have to do some cleanup on the bridge end too.

If this doesn't work well..... I'll fill up the cartridge tube, allow the RTV to "skin" and partially cure, and then push the tube onto the atomizer. The bridge will press into the "skinned" RTV and make the dent. Then I'll allow it to fully cure.

Anyway... you've got the idea. I've done things like this before.. and ultimately I've almost always been able to get the desired results.

Don't know if I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow.... so you guys will probably beat me to the desired results. Have at it!

You guys had better take pictures!! I think I'm picturing this right, but I'm not sure - so I need to SEE what you're doing please!!

Although - I haven't had any leaking/flooding at all. I must have made the straw and center cut just right on the money on the first try. My cart seems to be lasting longer than with the PTB and it just refilled with 14 drops of diyflavorshack peach. Vaping heaven.

Have you guys considered capping off both ends of a straw/tube with the silicone and using it like a cartridge? One end has the plug inset with the cut and the other end is more of a cap that comes off to refill? Or both ends could be caps (picture like an old fashioned, crimped metal soda cap), just one end has the X cut? On the end with the X cut, don't use any lube, so it sticks, on the other end, use lube so it can come off for refilling.

lol I would not worry about it nothing wrong with the silicone cap plug... scottes using a 801 and its a lil more dificult to use a cap plug.. but you know how us men are we must have custom molded plugs now :D Kinda like cars we cant ever have to much H.P. !!

OK i get what your saying hmmm IDK either glad I have a 510:D
Yeah, me too!

I don't get why the plug wouldn't work for the 901. Couldn't Scottbee just use the hole punch he used for the blue scrubbie and slice a side off for the "D" shape the same way? I don't think he's ever used the straw though - I think he used the spring. From the photo he posted of the cart, I would think a straw would still work in that cart, to hold up the plug.
