I've been using Delasco balls since they were first declared a viable rayon source. It's been over a year and I'm still using the same bag. I only tried a little of the Sally's that someone sent me a small sample of, but Delasco's is better quality with no knotted sections to deal with. You do have to unroll them, which can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it it's easy and you get at least 4 wicks from each one depending on the size of your coil.

I typically use one per wick.. For 2.5 - 3 mm.. Usually double back over and stretch to fit density, waste whatevers left.. Lol. At least 200 wicks in there and I only use about one Rayon wick every month or two...

That's a helluva lot of wasted rayon! But then I rewick more often than that in my RTAs with my sweet dessert flavors.

I get 2 wicks from about an inch and a half of Sally's . . . . lessee . . . 500 feet is 6000 inches, divided by 1.5 is 4000, times 2 = 8000 wicks . . .

I better get more.
That's not couple dayso worth, I have Sally's as well, I am not nearly as frugal with it as you.

Hello. I'm popping in with a question here. I read through a lot of this gigantic thread first from first to later, then from last to earlier, so I skipped some in the middle. Can anyone tell me if it's been discussed how to wick a tank like the Herakles rta or the Griffin 25? The ones that have those slots that you thread the tails through... I read in the beginning of the thread that you should trim your tails, but it seems like trimming them down to 1/4 or so would cause leaking. If someone could explain or even link to a particular post, that would be great. :)

I don't have any rayon yet, but I've ordered some.

Yes, it was actually the first one that I did right., cut at about a 45 degree angle, trim the tails down so only a very little goes all the way down

Got my Delasco's today, along with the SS wire. Really quick shipping. The bag of rayon I got has "Non Sterile" on the bag, is that what you all have been getting?
I pulled a couple balls out, and straightened them out, and in the length, the thickness varies, so I had to kinda play with it by gently spreading, and pulling, and rolling to get a more uniform length. So, will get an rda wicked up here in a while, and see how it goes.

Got a cyclone wicked, and right off only about half the vapor. Hmm, I didn't wick it any differently than I do with the Sally's, so what's up?
I have noticed it seems to need to be slightly higher wattage than sallys

well im having the same issue. I have no leaks or anything all afternoon and night but for some reason during the work day towards the middle of the work day my tanks star leaking. I'm thinking it's a subtank issue but soon my Cthulhu and griffin should be here soon.

Yep. I think the pill bottles are the only reasonable way to get sterile rayon. You can get sterile rayon balls, but they're expensive. The odd thing is rayon used for packaging is required by law to be sterile in pill bottles, but the cotton lobby was able to get an exception for cotton. They say it's because rayon can have a higher moisture content. I think it's just because the cotton industry in the USA has a more powerful lobby.
