@ vap: running 0.7-0.9 coils

That is what drains your batteries, not how you roll the ss mesh. I use 28g at 1.8 ohms and get all day vaping on a LT with a 18650.
Thankyou for the feedback, however
I'm more concerned with setup configuration rather than vv or vw mods.
Not blaming or complaining about solid wicks, and I can't run 1.8ohms on my mechanical mods and a get an all day anything. I know why I'm getting poor battery life. What I'm getting at is does anyone achieve a surprisingly great vape at surprisingly low watts. My only other option on the Paps is to run my kick, but at 10 watts max I would need to have an extremely athletic setup to deliver a great vape.
Maybe I shouldn't be asking this question on this thread, but most of the great genesis setup info I have gleaned has come from the great minds that frequent this thread, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Is anyone having any joy with running a truly efficient genesis setup (battery consumption wise) with the #500,
I have been using semi solid wicks for a while now and I just cream my batteries in no time, admittedly I am running 0.7-0.9 coils on my Paps, but I have 10 gensis attys four DIDs 3 AGAs 3 Chi Clones, and I'd like to set a few up for longer battery life without sacrificing to much oomph!!
Is anyone still using a wick with a center channel, or doing really tightly grouped coils right in front of the airhole. Or using 38g Kanthal or......... ???!!!!!.
The challenge is best flavor and vapor for real world vaping (i.e some tilting but no drinking) with least watts.err
Watt you got guys?
.
I've at least doubled my battery life, and the vape is fantastic doing what I described in post 1707&1711.

Weeeellll, after having another moan in a diferent thread (pyrex ss hybrid thread) about still struggling with shorts to the SS mesh, even after trying a wrap or two of coarser mesh on top of the 500 on the newest of my 2 CHIDS, I stripped it down and had at it again and nailed it, with fully *tight* wrapped coils of 29 awg kanthal - I just 'oxidised' the mesh a helluvah lot more than I had been doing -

- I'd tried easing up and only turning it a shade or tow darker/to brownish and that wasn't working, despite advice I'd read to not over-do it to 'black', that apparently being sugested as likely most folk's problem, but was getting nowhere unless I wrapped loose coils, so this time I thought buggrit, and heated the hells out of the mesh, ran it under the tap, and repeated 3 or 4 times - the wick was fully black after this. Wrapped a nice tight 7-ish wrap of the 29 guage, and not a singe short to be seen - beautiful!

However, I'm still not really impressed at the level of wicking - my wicks run dry before I'm done vaping unless I really tilt up the device to above 90 degrees - 'drinking' as I've heard the term (luckily when 'couchvaping' I tend to hold it at pipe smoking angles anyway) - this is with a wick a shade under 2.5mm (fits fairly easily into the hole), no centre hole and totally solid/plenty tight rolled (I have big hands and rock-climber fingers). It has several mm spare above the coils to hold a bit extra juice, the CHID top-plate has been drilled out/bored from below and been given a slight countersink from the top for the wick hole so wick only contacts it for about 3 or so mm, and top plate has a good breather hole in it - will see if it improves much, but if not then I really don't see what I'm not getting here, and I have one of the best 'Inner Sherlocks' to be found on the entire planet (and beyond LOL!).

Do I need a bigger atty that can acc. a 3mm wick, or am I just 'vaping too much' (impossible surely, heheheh...)?

Be well folks,

DV (Even when I can no longer see the TV - There's never enough Vapir!)

@ Cyrus -

Prolly about 4 to 6ml so far, but I've put bucket-loads through my other (first) CHID/CHENESIS (I run my juices at between 4 and 6mg/ml for these as I 'serialchainconstantmegavape', uhhmmm, most of the time heheheh... ), and at best it still needed a good regular tipping up, although I find it works best when the coil is about 1/2 way to 'maximumgunkedness' with my home made coffee based flavours (tiny particulates I haven't been able to filter from the coffee build up and burn on quickly) - it's like the foam-like carbon deposits aid with the wicking...

However, with the cleaner/clearer juices this just doesn't happen the same, and I can never get it to wick well, although I can produce rocket loads of vapour from them when I tip them up enough (enough for me, too much for everyone else in the room... ahem.)

Maybe I'll figure it out in the end.

Cheers for the reply - be well!

DV ',;~}~

I bought a kick and hate it. I run a solid wick 80mm in the DID 500 mesh with a 3/4 30awg wrap. Comes out at 1.0 to 1.2 ohms. Works great on my mechanical mods.My provari wicks I usually give it an extra wrap or 2 aiming for a 1.6 to 1.8 ohm coil. I use MNKE batteries in my mechanical mods. I do have some Panasonic IMR batteries and since I am no longer running the 28g crazy low ohm coils I should get a good vape from regular IMR batteries.
Thankyou for the feedback, however

45mm 500 mesh. 1.5mm in diameter. 32ga. Kanthal. 1.8ohm energy efficient fog machine @3.8v regulated. Note that the wick makes little to no contact with the sides of the wick hole.

Hello everyone...I don't mean to just barge in on the thread that I've been following for several weeks.
After a substantial amount of reading, I just wanted to thank everyone for the valuable information.
I do not have 500 mesh (yet) however, I just successfully installed a 70mm / 400 wick with a 6/7 coil of 28g into a cobra.
Properly oxidizing the wick has been a challenge for me but persistence has prevailed.
The performance of this set up is absolutely amazing and I have this thread to thank for it.
Every post here has been very helpful and I thank everyone for that.
I hope that at some point I can contribute as much as everyone else has.

majekh, what size Cobra you have?

Dear BJ43

The Mesh Company have, after months of work, been able to reduce the cost of the 0.025mm wire that is used to weave our popular #500 and #400 mesh sheets.

We have ensured that the quality remains the top priority, and are very pleased with the results. These sheets remain the highest quality available anywhere, and we can now offer them to the public.

I'm pleased to report that we're now able to pass the saving onto our customers.

The price of #500 and #400 mesh A4 and A3 sheets has now been dropped. Plus we're now offering a 15% discount if you order over £50 worth of any of our e-cigarette sheets.

Also, there is an extra 10% discount on all materials until the 10th January 2013.

Please keep an eye out for more e-cigarette materials being added to our website in the coming weeks.

Please let me know if you require any further info on the production of our super fine mesh.

Sincerely,
The Mesh Company (Warrington) Ltd

@BJ re: mesh co. - great folks or what eh!?! Excellent business sense IMO, naturally translates to excellent treatment of customers, and vice-versa.

Mother-in-law's from Warrington - apparently not only did/do they make some of the best steel wire and tension cables/wire rope (suspension bridges, ocean floor cabling and more) on this sweet planet, but I hear they have a mean rugby team too LOL!

Just so happens I seems to have me this 'oxidising' lark about figured as well as my wicking issues and am in need of placing another order for mesh this week - I plan on getting another CHID or two asap and am gonna need it.

Cheers for all your input on the ECF forums BJ - you've been a great help in my vaping adventures so far ',;~}~

So after 180 pages, is it still true 100% VG is better on a higher # mesh?

All the other places that I was dong my research on said that lower # is better for VG and higer # is better for PG. It even says that on the ProVari website

I can't speak for others but I use 100%VG and 325 & 400 ss mesh didn't wick for me. 500 did.

Yes, and the original theory that 635 would work even better seems to be true based on BJ's experience with it and the infamously thick Boba's Bounty; as documented in the 635 Mesh thread.
