it really depends on what you have screwed in to the 5v mod. if you are using a 2 ohm carto on the 5v mod it is probably overkill, but a 3 ohm carto would be an awesome vape.

Yeah, the output Voltage of a PV to me isn't that Important.

It the Watts that determines what the hit taste like.

6V @ 2.2Ω atty is just right for me.

...

SAY WHAT ???

Vaping at Over 16 WATTS. Wow !!!

Why do I get the Feeling that you like you Steaks Extra, Extra, Extra Well Done when you BBQ?

For me, the extra power of 5v was also used as a tool to put my mind at ease. You put it to your lips and without forcing extra long drags, BAM!, you have yourself a massive hit. It sends a very clear message that "this is not a toy" and it is something you can count on for even the strongest cravings. This was especially useful to me in the beginning.

When I first converted fully to vaping, I still ate heavy meals and would also have a few drinks now and again. I noticed that while the sensation was fine at home, it was diminished significantly at a restaurant or bar. I quickly realized, I had to have something with the power to easily cover those critical moments.

Since those days, I have upped the resistance of my atty and lowered the nicotine to 18mg from 36mg and looking to make the transition to 12mg. For me (I repeat) for me, this would not be possible at 3.7v With VV or proper voltage/ resistance, liquid combinations, shorter drags etc. you can always reduce the performance with much greater ease than you can increase it, simply because the power is there.

Just to test, I'm using my LEO battery with PT, with a LEO to 510 and 510 to 801 connectors. It is OK. It gets the job done, but sometimes I have to hold the button down for 2-3 seconds before taking a drag. Sometimes I have to take 3-4 drags (draw with your mouth while exhaling through the nose) without putting the battery down in order to recreate the feeling I get from 1 drag on 5v.

After all, my screen name is throatKICK!

This is a great thread! I had to learn the hard way when I went from my kr808 stick style to a standard ego. I didn't research enough to find out the bigger ego was actually putting out less volts. Luckily the echo was invented and I have a nice simple, long lasting pv to use while I do a little more research. Don't know where I'll go from here but it will probably be a variable voltage something or other....

So anybody that is fimilar with the 5 Volt Boxmod from madvapes.com, which atomizers or cartomizers do you recommend with this mod? I don't want to give up on it just yet. Figured I spent the time building it, so I owed it to myself to give it a chance with the proper gear attached to it.

I appreciate everyone's comment so far, but I'm getting confused with all the 3.7 and VV mod suggestions. What should I be using for this mod specifically? Also, even with the right cartos attached, should I still be expecting a massive hit of vapor? Or can this produce a more subtle hit of vapor with the right cartos attached?

Thanks

That's the cool thing about Watts.

If you told use some combination of PV volts and Carto/Atty ohms that you like for a given e-Liquid, we could make a suggestion on to what would work at 5 volts.

    Use this simple calculator.
    Ohm's Law Calculator
    Just plug in your 5v, and the different resistances of the atties/cartos you might like to try, and it will tell you the wattage you would be vaping at.
    It will also tell you the amperage that you are asking your poor little batteries to put forth.

    I personally like to be vaping at 8 watts or a little less.

    I don know what combination of volts and carto ohms I like. This is my first time using a 5V, and I've only used the cartos/attys I mentioned earlier. I'm asking for other peoples suggestions and preferences. If I know what combination I liked and what worked for me, I wouldn't have started this thread. I'm not looking for ohm's law, or the formula to calculate Watts. Just wondering what what works for other vapers using a 5V.

    Edit: After reading this post I thought it looked like I was going off on you. If that's what it appears like, trust me I wasn't. I'm just looking for suggestions is all. :)

    There are people in the ECF chat that vape at 30+ watts.

    No Problem...

    But like I said. If you told me that on a eGo, say 3.5 volts, you liked a 1.5 ohm atomizer for a certain e-Liquid – Then what you are telling me is that for that e-Liquid you like 8.2 Watts.

    Watts = (Voltage Squared)/Ohm => Watts = (3.5^2)/1.5 => Watts = 8.2

    So when someone asks what ohms do I think would work good for the Same e-Liquid at 5 volts – I throw a little Algebra on the Equation and come up with this…

    Ohms = (Voltage Squared)/Watts => Ohms = (5^2)/8.2 => Ohms = 3.0

    So I tell the person that 3 Ohms at 5 Volts should be about the Same. And since People Usually go to 5 Volt PV’s to get a “Killer” hit, I would Recommend 2.8 Ohms at 5 volts.

    You’re just going to have to try some stuff for yourself though and see what works for you.

    ...

    I’ll take your word on the 30 Watt thing.

    30 Watts IS Smoking. Smoking Like Analog Smoking that is. Not Like Vaping with Water Vapor.
