I honestly can't say why, but the advice of going to Ace and getting washers, it's spot on! I got some, I think, #4 washers, I didn't look, but it's holding stable ohms, I've got the hot spots settled and it's working well so far.

I ordered some from ebay. after I tried to rebuild my last coil, the flavor is just not there any more. I built a did clone that some guy sent me in a trade that I actually think I kinda got screwed on and its got the flavor that my aga-t used to have. I just cant seem to get it back on the aga-t. also, what springs are you guys using?

Springs? Not sure what you mean there.
I had to take the SS wick out of my AGA and fire it to burn all the gunk from the hot spots off of it and the flavor has really has come back to life! It's getting right there with my carto tanks.I'm much happier with it, and not afraid to go out and about with this set up now!
I did break down tonight, after not finding a carto tank I like, for what I want in my price range, and ordered this https://www.rtdvapor.com/online-store/rebuildable-atomizers/didrba-detail I keep hearing it's like the mini did, which looks GREAT on a Provari!
The AGA is just too top heavy for me and I've heard the ZAP is heavy and big, for out and about use, so I hope this fits the bill for my needs. I've also heard these are a lot easier to rebuild and set up. We'll see how it goes!

most of the pics and videos i have seen using washers seem to have some sort of spring holding them tight. maybe i am mistaken.

that did clone looks exactly like the one i am using now. it works great and is easy to set up but i cant seem to get it to wick with the fill screw in. it is really light weight though.

btw im not sure of the difference or if there is one but these are at cov for $11 plus shipping with coupon code.

COV Gen 1

They should be the same, BUT, I needed to order some more batteries for my Provari mini, so with the 5% coupon, the cheaper price on the batteries, and only having to pay shipping once, I think it came out in the wash?
I knew there were other places to get it cheaper, it just came down to having to pay shipping to two places, and the hassle of ordering from two different places! Yes, I'm lazy like that!

I added a spring to mine, compression spring from the hardware store, smallest I could find.
I haven't tested it properly yet, but quick test shows a wrap around the centre post between the nut and the washer, it holds fine.

Nice. I like the filed down washer on the Neg screw too. I dont know why the are not flat on the bottom. I am adding that to my AGA set up. Thanks :)

Ok, tried to roll a thicker mesh this time.
40 x 120mm....
I rolled it as tight as I could....so much that my fingers are pretty sore...sigh.

I do not think its wicking that well... compared to the shorter wick.
Is there a trick to making them wick better when its tighter rolled?

I do not see any hot spots.... and if I vape around 9 watts.... it really isnt hitting well.
I bump up to 10 or 11...and it starts to get a little better...but still seams weak for throat hit, vapor, and flavor.

I do see that at the higher watts, it will start to show a red coil near the bottom.
I do not see my juice starting to pool on the wick when held down....I did on the shorter wick.
I take a vape or two...then it shows hints of burned taste. Not alot...but its there...

edit: I should note that I see the red coil after firing for almost the cut off...not when I am normal vaping.
So I think its just not wicking well enough to maintain the juice for a longer vape.... maybe im wrong.

I didn't become a fan of wicks made w/ 100+mm of mesh. For me w/ a 1.8Ω coil I had to increase from about 8 watts with about 50-60mm of mesh to 13 watts with 100 mm of mesh to get the same 'vape'. It seemed to me the wick was just sucking too much heat and I really had to increase the power to the coil to get it to vape as I liked it.

seems to me that it is a short of some kind, especially showing red at the bottom. sometimes when there is juice in the tank and you see a hot coil on the top, it is just because the top of the coil is drier. but a red coil at the bottom is a hot spot and needs to be addressed. it could be to tight or to loose at the bootm of coil. if you have any hot spot it is going to affect the taste. now i use 28g with only 4 wraps, it gives me a really low resistance and with the 500mesh really tight, it wicks like a freight train. dont know if the same rolled wick reacts differently with different wire and different resistances. so i couldnt say how my wick would work with lets say 32g @ 1.8 ohms. but a hotspot is a hotspot. when i have a good coil going i can push it up to the cut-off limit on my provari without any hotspots, especially on the bottom coil. not that i vape at 15 watts, but out of curiousity, just to see how the coil would perform.

I changed to a 80mm long wick and it is wicking alot better.
I think I might try a more hollow wick with less mesh and try to get the power I need down even more.
The Vamo does have its limitations when power is concerned...
Maybe 60mm with a center channel....see how that works.
Im used to tilting anyway with my Vivi Novas....and I heard with a center channel you might need to tilt more.

Looks like next week I'm gonna have to build another wick and coil.
My current one is still vaping great, even though its gone up to 1.9-2.0 ohms. VW is such a nice feature! :)

Anyway, I have the new AGA-T+ and a glass tank coming from steammonkey.com.

He's got a few left, but they may be sold out by morning.

Well I had it working good, then took it with me to the tire store yesterday. It decided not to fire at all on the way home. Fiddled and fiddled with it and finally broke the top wire off the coil.
I tried the burrito wick method this time, worked great, tasted great, but still wouldn't settle down, ohms 1.4 one time, then 2.8 the next. Fiddled and fiddled some more until it just tasted burnt. Pulled the wick, unrolled it, the silica was burnt on the top and the SS was plugged. I burnt the SS, put in new silica and wrapped the coil using one of the fill screws, as I've seen done here before, rather than the ground post as I have been.
It instantly tasted burnt! Messed and messed with it, no love, constant hot spots and terrible flavor no mater what I do. I just set it off for tonight, I'm not in the mood!
