You're definitely right on this. I'm experimenting a little bit before bed to try to find the "sweet spot" you're talking about. I was putting the coil close to the squonk hole in the hopes it'd help not dry the wick out, but moving it up a bit and making sure the wick touches the base has improved vapor production, taste and throat hit moderately. I'm also using a juice I'm familiar with this time, instead of a whole new one. The taste is beautifully clean, too.
I tried blocking one of the air holes with a bit of oring, too. That's a terrible plan. Everything goes way down in quality. The airy draw may be a little unpleasant, but I can see how it's necessary for the device.
You may also find that once you get used to an airy draw, you may start to prefer it over a tighter draw. I was certain I'd ruined a Gen LV by opening the draw up too much, and then as I used it for a while I found I actually like it better that way. A lot of it is what you are used to, the airy draw seemed "wrong" to me at first because everything else I had vaped with was tighter. Once I learned how to take an optimal drag on it, it was great.
