Mine tastes terrible I've tried cotton everything and now using silica rope. Tastes a little better now. Any ideas guys?

Anyone try the A7 RBA ?? Will it fit?

Have you tried cheesecloth? I started with silica, really didn't mind it, (after I started boiling it), then tried boiled cotton yarn and discovered I liked the taste better then just happened to see cheesecloth in the grocery store and picked up a package.
It sat around the house for weeks before I decided to give it a try and I have been very pleased with how clean the flavor is. I have found that the size of the wick really needs to be much smaller than either silica or yarn since it's wicking properties cause it to really swell. A relatively small wick works very well.
One of these days I'll try bamboo yarn but probably because I'll be bored rather than dissatisfied with the taste from the cheesecloth. I imagine SS mesh is somewhere in the future too.

Did you wash it? One bad thing about the A7 is comes coated with a nasty tasting machine oil. Just rinsing it doesn't help any either. I boiled a small pan of water and dropped a few drops of Dawn into it and let the atty boil for a few minutes then ran cold water over into the pan until all was cool and no more bubbles. Got rid of the nasty taste.
Excellent point, I've received devices with machine oil on them before but the A7 seemed like it was soaked in it.
I'll have to try that this week. I washed it with soap and hot water but I didn't think I needed to go that far.

And dismantle it completely...the base has 2 nylon washers and a pos pin plate inside that are all covered in oil...
Got it up and running boiled it like you all recommended. I currently have a major buzz going on and am blowing clouds. Officially in vape coma

HELP!!!
I'm getting pretty upset with these rebuildables! And i was doing so good!! Musta been beginners luck
I forgot and can't find the thread/threads for checking the ohms after i build one....and they're tasting crappy...well...juicy....
no throat hit and very little vapor. The coils aren't touching anything they're not supposed to, I'm using Kanthal 32 gauge A1 and standard silica wick. I use butane to " burn" the coils/wick before I insert them in the A-7 or ERA.( making sure the coils are glowing red)
I have a cute little clear glass round gizmo...a voltage range tester, it says...with a male and female end. I got this thing just to test the coils for a 1.5 or so ohms( ? )but i can't figure out how to use it!
I also have a mulitmeter that i check the batts and atties with, but I don't know how to check the rebuildable. ( lord...I'm using all kinds of lingo and words I didn't even know a few weeks ago!)

Set your multimeter to read resistance (should have the symbol Ω), tough the two leads together and see what it reads. Some will go to 0, some will display something (0.3 for example). Remember this value.
Now touch and hold the two leads to the two posts screws on your RBA with the coil installed. Subtract whatever your meter showed originally from the reading you get from the atty.
Example, if when you touched the two leads together you got 0.3, subtract that amount from what you get when you check your atty.
So if the self test yielded 0.3, and the atty test yielded 1.8, your coil is in fact 1.5Ω. If your self test came to 0, then your atty test needs no adjustment.
This is also useful...

According to the chart, 2 inches of Kanthal A1 32g should be about 2.3Ω. So, if you want a 2Ω coil you should use about 2.5 inches of wire. This would leave room for trimming off excess wire through the post holes and still get you in the ballpark. Now when you test this coil with your meter you should know what the resistance should be based on how much wire is in the coil.

Question. Can the positive and negative posts in the A7 be rotated? I would like to align the holes differently than the way they are aligned.

What are you modding on the A7? Is it just the air hole? If so the a bit is all you need. Otherwise it can get serious.
I feel like we are beating a dead horse with this, but I wanted to post a pic of the setup that is working FAN FRICKIN TASTIC for me. It's a bare coil with a cotton wick (from an oversized Q-tip). The wick is nestled up under the coil on one side. The bare coil provides great heat and the placement of the coil gives me excellent vapor and throat hit.
Edit: Forgot to mention, using 32g A1 Kanthal. This coil measures @1.5ohms
