I have no idea what mine is but I talk good

General rule of thumb..... An accent refers to country of origin, dialect refers to a more localized regional difference

Does it give you a weird cognitive disconnect, when you see Hugh on some talk show, speaking with his natural Brit accent? It's as strange as seeing James Marsters ("Spike" of Buffy fame) speaking with an American accent!

It does. His americanized accent is so spot on. I never really thought about Spike's accent because I used to listen to audiobooks narrated by him. Weird.

I have never had anyone complain about my sweet southern accent most people find it charming

Yes.. and most southerners still have an accent, even when they're speaking 100% perfect English -- Jimmy Carter? I'm sure when he's off-mike, he probably says "southern things" but when he's speaking for public consumption, he speaks in perfect standard English... with a southern accent.
