I tried one of those alleged 'kayfun killers"... the smok RBST or RSBT... not the RSST. In a word... nope. It vapes more like the smok Caterpillar, really open and airy, and it's a massive .... pain to build *just right*. It's in the drawer along with the T3S's and Mini PT II's.. and Caterpillar. :D

The only thing I've tried that can challenge a well-built kayfun for flavor is the Magma, I really like it. The Veritas... jury's still out, but even with the airflow as closed as i can make it, it still seems too airy to me.

You bring up a good point, Andria. Tootle puffers are different in many ways; including their preferred draw. My ProTank 2 w/AFC (v1) has a looser draw than my KFL+v2. Both have been opened up as far as I can take them. IMO, that's one of the "cons" against the Kayfuns; their (overly) tight drawl. I know there are many who love the Kayfun's draw. Many authentics and countless clones have been sold. If you like a tight drag that can closely mimic the experience of an analog, it's tough to beat a Kayfun. If you enjoy the draw off of a wide open Nautilus Mini or airier, look elsewhere.

ETA: I like both my IGO L and Veritas wide open. The Plume Vail, I tighten down quite a bit.

If you like the flavor on the Magma then you really need to try the Origen V2 RDA, I have yet to see a Magma or anything else touch it for flavor. It can be built with single or dual coil and the air flow can be adjusted with hole sizes of 1.2mm, 1.5mm, or 2mm. This is not an airy RDA by any means and is designed specifically for flavor!

Hmm... what size is the smallest hole in the Magma? I thought it was 1mm... and when I first got it, I found it a bit airier than I had been using my kayfun, but it wasn't a *huge* difference, so I adjusted... even opened my kayfuns up just a tiny bit more, and instead of the 1.8Ω coils I had been using, I started making them 1.4-1.6Ω. Tiny bit more vapor, but lots more flavor. But I'm not sure that 1.2mm would suit me, since I do like a fairly tight draw -- and I don't really consider what I'm using now a "tight draw"... sort of medium, I'd say.

And how does the top cap attach? One thing I like about the Magma is that i can remove the cap, because of the threads, without messing up the airflow setting -- I put a spare o-ring under the AFC ring, so it would stay put. With the veritas, I have to re-adjust for the tightest possible airflow, everytime I remove the cap. Kind of a pain. Also, what about the well? I won't mess with RDAs that don't have a deep well as the Magma and Veritas do, just not worth it to me, all the fiddling. I ***LOOOOVE*** the look of the Valkyrie hybrid mod, the black one, but there is no well at all, so it really wouldn't suit me, nevermind how classy it looks. :(

I'll second the origen v2. Just got one a few days ago. Its hard finding rda's now that do singles, this one is nice.
With the near perfectly vertical coil I'm gonna try some mesh in it next rebuild

I wanted a dripper as good as the senio with just a touch more airflow, I think I found it.

Unlike the magma the whole body under the coil is all well

Here is the Origen V2.
MfXk2tG.jpg

The juice well holds 1.5ml, building a vertical coil takes a bit of getting used to but it is quite easy.
The top cap is held on with the two big o-rings at it's base. The airflow control slides on over it and is held in place with three o-rings, it will not move by itself once set.

The smallest air hole has a quite restricted draw.

The draw on the Origen is too tight for most people. I usually run it with both the largest air holes set on a single coil.

Now I know I'm a true tootle puffer. Single middle hole open and single coil works fine for me. Great RDA, but mostly I'm too lazy to drip and stick to the KFs.

Hmm.. so it's another that the AFC has to adjusted everytime you remove the top cap, so kind of a pain like the Veritas. I do like that big well though, and also the thumb-screw for the positive post; that little nut thingie on the veritas is a pain; I had to try and find the smallest of my husband's "nut driver" attachments for his socket set, and it's still a little bigger than the tiny nut on the veritas.

I tried a single-vertical build in my Veritas, but i can't say I was terribly impressed. Maybe it's because I only left one wick-tail dangling into the well, and just cut the top tail off to sort of "bush out", and I would drip right into that bushed-out top of the wick. Maybe that's why all I could really taste was rayon.

Might try the Origen v2 at some point, I'm learning to 'never say never' when it comes to vaping, but I can't say it's something I'm going to get right on. Looks interesting, though. Is the vape anything at all like the Magma's, with only one of the very smallest holes open?

What most people seem to consider "tight draw" seems rather airy to me -- for the life of me I can't understand why people think a Kayfun has a "tight draw" -- it only has a really tight draw when you close the airflow COMPLETELY. My favorite draw is from a carto. :D Unfortunately my juice is too gunky to make cartos practical.

The air flow control ring doesn't move very easily on the top cap so once it's set you can forget about it. Yes you have to make sure you put the top cap back on with the air hole in front of the coil though.

You can build a horizontal coil in the Origen but once you get the hang of building a vertical, it's really easy. I don't drip into the Origen, I pop off the top cap and squeeze juice in till the reservoir is full and vape away. I drive 45 minutes to work each day and with a full reservoir I can vape all the way there.

I will test out the Magma with the smallest air hole set and compare it.

I like the single middle hole open on it as well depending on the setup, but the build I have in the picture is a 24g @ 0.6Ω that I run at 25W.
