I haven't setup clients for a VERRRRRRY long time :)

Well - Ya' Could have fooled "Me" . . . I really appreciate the assistance, especially since Client for Microsoft Networks is now back and under all types of connections . . . THANKS ! ! ! :rickroll:

Now - To tackle the other problem . . . The way in which I have to close down and open up access to "My" computer . . . Before I could just start "My" computer and everything would just show up on the screen - No sign in box - nor asking for password . . . Also when closing down (Shut off) the computer I was given a box with images to make a selection - HIbernate - Standby ~ Shut Off ~ Restart . . . However, now it is a box with a drop down menu and if I want to shut the computer totally off I also have to "Log Out" . . . Let's just say I am not happy with this, especially since I am the only user of this laptop . . .

SO - The question is - Can it be changed back ? ? ?

BTW: "My" apologies to all the "Tootle Puffer' for taking over the conversation - But I knew if anyone here on ECF could help "Me" it would be someone here in this thread . . . So I Hope Ya' Understand . . . ;)

Okay - Don't mean to prolong this, but it just took me another half hour just to type this . . .

WOOT! Glad you're part-way back :)

Try this:
Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?)

1) Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
2) Check the box, Users must enter a username...........
3) Highlight the user you want automatically logged on.
4) Uncheck the box, Users must.............
5) Click Apply
6) In the next dialog, enter the password for the account you chose in step 3
7) OK your way out.

Often the account that is selected/highlighted when you first run USERPASSWORDS2 is the Administrator account. If it has a blank password, that is the account you'll be logged into.

P.S. - me some Google ;)

OOP{s sorry I see you already tried that sorry.
With all the problems you are having if it was me I would save all your documents/ photos/ downloads and start from scratch and reinstall windows XP Pro. If you don't have a disk I will burn one for you. Just save your product key.

YEP - The One & Only "GOOGLE" usually does the trick for "Me" too - But not this time . . . :(

I've spent over 4-5 hours looking and searching for the same info that "You" provided with no luck at all . . .

Guess I didn't enter the correct "search parameters" . . .

I'll check on you tomorrow :)

GREAT - After following the instructions "You" provide I no longer have to sign-in or log off, however I am still having a problem with the splash screens (see below) . . . :(
Once again - THANK YOU for all your help tonight . . . Really do appreciate it all . . .

OH BOY - If Ya' only knew, I have been wanting to do that for over the past 6+ months and been putting off . . . Actually actively procrastinating . . . Trying to avoid the long and very laborious task given how much I have to save first . . . More importantly, I do not believe have all the information for the hardware and program updates for what was originally installed in "My" computer by Dell (especially all the preinstalled "Stuff') that I think I would need either . . . Oh Well - I'll check everything I can again and let Ya' know . . . THANK YOU, especially offering to "Burn" a copy for "Me" (I just may contact "You' directly via a PM for this) . . .
bouncing-thank-you-smiley-emoticon.gif

I think you have just turned off the Welcome screen.

thank-you-smiley.gif
Yep - I found that earlier . . . However, after reinstalling the Client for Microsoft Networks and getting rid of the need for using a password via the "RUN" as "Dinger" suggested . . . I went back to the Control Panel User Accounts to actually "Change the way users log on or off" options as "You" just suggested . . . BUT I'LL BE DAMMED . . . It is "greyed out" and gives "Me" the following message - "Client Service for Netware has disabled Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must uninstall Client Service for Netware." - which of course I cannot find anywhere . . . NOT NICE ! ! !

Okay -
I think I have taken over the conversation here about "My" computer problems for far to long . . . SO for those who are willing to continue to assist "Me" in this endeavor - it might be better if it was taken to PM's . . . Also - I want to publically Thank - @USMCotaku ; @Robert Cromwell ; and @clnire for stepping up to the plate and offer to even help & @5cardstud, @TrollDragon, and of course @DingerCPA for all your assistance . . . I have one of these waiting for each of "YOU" . . .

This should help you remove the Client for Netware from the network properties tab.
Get rid of "client services for netware" once and for all - TechSpot Forums

It's mentioned at the bottom of that page that it could possibly be spyware causing this issue, that might require quite a bit of work to get rid of.

If removing the Microsoft Netware Client doesn't do it, then you can run the following tools:

Combofix Only get it from Bleeping Computer
ComboFix Download

Word of Caution!

If your machine is badly virused, then it is possible Combo Fix can put it in an unbootable state. I have yet to see this happen and I clean machines daily of viruses.

ADWCleaner
AdwCleaner Download

Malwarebytes Free Version
Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software Make sure you uncheck Premium Trial during Install.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

If you could see my room. I have PCs and laptops everywhere from friends, relatives and me that I'm working on so it doesn't bother me in the least to help someone when I can. If you decide to go with a re-install I would upgrade to 7 instead if I were you.

@Uncle
I've been out most of the evening. Glad to see most of your issues have been rectified. As to the client service for NetWare, here is a link that should be able to help with that.... To much to write, as different people had luck/no luck with different methods.....How to remove Client Services for Netware - TechSpot Forums

Yes, me too (upgrade to 7). I'm finding that newer browsers aren't playing very nice with older OS's, and more and more sites are wanting the newer browsers. Plus, there are more and more sites that will only work with the newest version of Flash, and Flash keeps wanting newer OS's.
Find an "OEM" version of 7 - you can get it pretty cheap. Careful with bootleg versions. My PC is down because I didn't realize the OS on it wasn't legit (bought it used). Kept using it for awhile, then MS stopped letting me.

I think XP was one of their good programs but I love 7. I have 7pro but any version of 7 is good. They might as well of never released 8. It's going to be hard for them to ever top 7. I started out with Dos and have every program they ever made but I threw 8 in the trash.
