Are you weening down? Why not?

Part of the purpose of quitting smoking, is no longer being addicted to a drug. We all had such trouble quitting, because the nicotine was so highly addictive. Just think about how it felt, all those times you tried to quit cold turkey. So you must admit, that part of the reason you quit, and why you kept smoking, was the addiction. The addiction is tied directly to the negative health effects of smoking, because if you weren't addicted, you would have been able to quit much easier, and we wouldn't have nearly as many vapers as we have today. Also vaping may not have ever been needed, as quitting cold turkey would have been a lot easier.

That said, why do so many vapers (probably nearly all of you) continue to just vape at whatever nicotine levels you were smoking at? Its so easy to just ween down now. I started at 18mg, (iirc) and slowly, over time, got down to 0mg. This did take a few years. But I did it. There are plenty of places out there that will let you go in intervals of 2mg, up or down. The place in town where I buy most of my vape juice also does this. I went down to 16, 14, 12, 10, etc etc until I got to zero. If for whatever reason, I can not vape, no big deal. So why don't most people do this? Why would you want to remain addicted, so that if something happens where you just can't vape, you go into freakout mode? Its actually disgusting to watch. There are plenty of situations that could arise that could prevent you from being able to vape, possibly for days at a time. Nicotine has also been linked to stomach cancer so that's another reason.

At this present moment I am not weening down from my usual 12mgs simply because I choose not to. I am very unique in that fact that I started vaping at zero nic, and did so for about 6-8 months, and then eventually worked my way up to 12mg. My journey was backwards, but it would take some time for me to adjust to the throat hit from ejuice. I went from zero, to 6mg, to 12mg, at which point I finally quit smoking ... everyone's journey is different.

I am now vaping a lot of 6 mg, but I have some 12 and 18 handy and even have "duplicates" of my favorites, just in lower nic concentrations. I do not feel that nic is evil *however* the more nic I take in the more I feel personally I would go back to smoking if the worst happens with regard to vaping. I started at 24 mg a little over two months ago but that was because I was on ego batts and CE clearomizers. Since discovering mods, RBAs, and so forth? 24 mg is ridiculously overpowering. Frankly, I don't tell much of a difference between 6 and 12 at this point however that is likely due to the fact that I use a little of each throughout the day. I don't have any plans to get to 0 nic, however. If I could somehow get to 3-4 and stay there? I'd do it, however the only real way to do that is to DIY and I honestly have no desire to start that.

That is honestly fascinating!

I don't think nicotine is a problem.

There are a few health conditions for which it isn't great, but mostly, no problem.

I ratcheted down my nic level from 18, to 15, to 12, and now 9 or 6, and do notice I"m not very dependent on nic anymore. I often go 1/2 the day w/out vaping. So for me, lowering my nic also lowered my *need* for nic, which is what I wanted.

i think vaping is great. It's just that it's not real *freedom* for me. Real freedom for me would be not bothering with it at alll, not having to charge batts, not having to depend on the rituals, etc.

So that is my own personal goal. Soon. :)

I dont know how this will end up for me.

37 year smoker at 2.5 packs a day. Quit overnight with 24 Nic.....vaped that for 5 months. As my throat started to get irritated from vaping... I went to 18...16.....14.......12.... and now at 10.

I DIY so I can custom blend as needed.

I vape non stop unfortunately it seems.

Heh, that's a very interesting way to think about it. At this point I've found the "tinkering" helps to further my disconnect from smoking. The nic-fix certainly does but I have the kind of mind that has to be occupied with *something* or I get antsy. Just goes to show how dissimilar we may be despite being so similar :)

Well said.

Edit: just a note.. I will NEVER pick up a cigarette again. No matter what.

I went from 24 mg and am presently at 10-12 mg. Probably because I have better equipment now. But I didn't quit smoking because of Nicotine addiction....I quit because smoking kills you. And how the hell do you know what "nearly all of us" are doing? You joined this forum last month. Congrats on kicking nicotine...now, put the bat down.

If it weren't for the health insurance companies and certain employees testing for nicotine so that they can charge you the smoker's surcharge, I'd stay at 12mg. I like the throat hit that the nic gives, and I have no ill effects from 12mg/ml nic.

However, because nicotine is so EVIL, the health insurance companies want to charge me 1.5 times my normal insurance rent even though I am not putting all of those carcinogens in my body.

As a result, I am weaning myself down because I don't want to pay the insurance weasels.

My reason to stop smoking was not to break my addiction to nicotine. My reason to stop smoking was the fact that tobacco smoke was damaging my health to a more and more noticeable degree. I did not start vaping with any intention of eliminating nicotine.

What I really like about vaping is the very fact that I can continue to use nicotine but now I don't wake up coughing up a lung - now I don't run out of breath doing my normal duties at my work - now I don't feel a lack of oxygen when I'm recreating the ways I prefer to - now I recover from minor illnesses like I did when I was young - now.... etc etc etc.

Nicotine is beneficial to me. Even if I couldn't see the benefit in how it aids my concentration and fine motor control, the fact would remain that I like it. I enjoy it. - I'm not planning to give that up.
