Never done it before but I do plan to store 30ml of concentrated extract from an ACID "Blondie" the same way I do liquid nic, airtight glass bottle filled to the neck stored at -10F. Don't know if long term cold storage will adversely impact the flavor of a tobacco extract, only one way to find out. Such knowledge might be useful in the near future. Once reduced (concentrated) I wonder if the flavor should be transferred to VG, PG or if leaving it suspended in ethanol would be better for long term storage. I'm leaning toward VG since its viscosity changes the most minimizing activity at the molecular level (slowing oxidation). I chose to stockpile VG based liquid nic for that very reason.

I've never stored whole leaf tobacco (or any kind of tobacco) in a freezer before. If I did I think I'd pack/seal the tobacco in a mason jar along with a 100cc oxygen absorber before storing it in a freezer. Thoughts?

I wasn't leaning to storing loose tobacco in the freezer just regular air tight in a dark place (sorta like I feel now.) All my extracts are PG. I've stored PG menthol w/nic in the freezer with no degradation.

Of all the tobaccos I have tried, Perique is number one.

Agree with you there.....

Just pulled a Perique out of the cook last night. Couldn't help pulling a bit out of the jar for a sneak vape before the cold steep session.....and my goodness, I can't wait for this this batch to reach full maturity; 150ml of tastiness! :)

Hey Tele, I haven't tried either of these except I've smoked them both. And I love Diane's stuff but mostly do my own now. If it were me, I'd go with the Sun Grown. Funny, I mostly smoked maduros but find I like a lighter wrapper in my extractions, more nuances in the flavor in my opinion. 2 cents, due on Tuesday. Let us know and cheers.

Thanks Patio. I'll take your suggestion and pick up a single here and try my hand at it. I've only extracted 2 or 3 cigars with good success with one.

I received an email from Pipes&Cigars stating that, due to the deeming, this will be the last year to pick up annual and seasonal tobacco blends. This is in addition to losing Russ's blends (Hearth & Home MarQuee line) sometime in the near future. I've never extracted a Christmas blend and don't really have the desire to, not really my flavor profile.

Thursday Special
The Last Of The McClelland Holiday BlendsMcClelland is releasing their Christmas Cheer and Holiday Spirit blends for 2016, and also for 2017 right now. Why both years at once? Due to the FDA's new deeming regulations, annual and seasonal blends will no longer be able to be made. Since Mike and Mary McNiel had already bought the leaf for the next two years, they figured that they had to bring them out now, or not at all.

Somewhere around 3 months ago I bought a couple broken cigars from a smoke shop going to be my first go at making a NET. Romeo Y Julieta short churchills they were called. I broke them up, removed the stems and chunkies then proceeded to soak in PG. Every so often I would re crush the tobac in the PG and let it soak for 2 months. Coffee filtered a few times then forced through a syringe with cotton and ended up with @400mls of PG based flavor(know better for next time not so much PG to cover). Its not bad since I have to concoct a 50/50 blend to vape it. Let it sit a week, taste and still abit light on taste, 2 weeks it got a bit better and now a month steep it hasnt changed much in flavor strength. I'm assuming in using too much PG in the soaking process the taste isn't as concentrated if I had of used 200mls of PG.
The other day I went ahead and made 50mls (25 DIY flavor +25 VG) then added 2% of each No5 and RTS TA and being only hours old I loaded up a sample tank and OMG....amazing vape, its not going to make a 2 week steep time before I vape it up.
This was my first go at building a NET and IMO it was a success with the learning curves expected so now I'm going to have to start researching out the gazillion types of leaves to try to find something that mimics the Hangsen Highway, Desert Ship or No5 grassy taste. RTS TA and INW Garuda are 2 others I'd also like to try to mimic.
Any help to point me in the right direction to kinds of leaves I would be looking at to mimic those flavors would be appreciated.

OK, I'll check in now.

Been reading this (and the alcohol extraction) thread for a couple of weeks and received my first (small) order of tobacco today.

Sutliff VooDoo Queen
H&H Louisiana Red
Lane 1-Q
Sutliff Molto Dolce
Sam Gawith Full Virginia Flake

I also bought a pack of American Spirit Perique.

Going to soak these in PGA until my Inkbird gets here sometime next week.

Really looking forward to trying these and a big thank you to all who have contributed to these treads.
Been a while since I made these and thought I'd share my thoughts.

Freshly made, they would rank:

1. Molto Dolce
2. Lane 1-Q
3. Louisiana Red
4. Virginia Flake
5. VooDoo Queen

After a few weeks of vaping them off and on, I pretty much set them aside and moved on. In the past few weeks, thanks to the FDA BS, I bought several new tanks (STM) and thought I'd give them another go.

Now, with the exception of the Virginia Flake (still a little too grassy for me), the order is reversed. I'm loving the VooDoo, the Red is very good, the Lane is a nice change of pace and, as I believe @Str8vision mentioned, the Molto seemed to loose much of it's flavor.

When I get a little more time I'll give the Acid Blondie, and a few others, a try.

Thanks again to all who have contributed, and made my vaping journey soooooo much more flavorful.

Oh, forgot about the AS Perique. I like it too and would put it on equal footing with the Red, (depending on the day ;)).

Attached is what I currently have "stored":
Some of those I haven't tried and I'll be adding to the stash periodically as my current bounty dwindles. Mixed up some of Vash's Confederate extract this last weekend and am curious as to how it comes out.

Have you tried a PGA extraction yet?
Last year I started extracting many of my favorites with PGA and now the PG versions are in the back of a drawer. I highly recommend giving it a go.

Right before I started PGA extractions, I started a Nat Sherman "Natural" Original extraction. A week from today it will have been soaking for a year. Curious to see how it turns out. It looks like motor oil .

Various factors that have enabled me to get better (3x+) performance with NET'S
1) PGA extraction
2) Spaced coils
3) Hemp fiber wick
4) Temperature control

I've had a P&C cart loaded up for a while now in anticipation of a sale. However, when I looked at the cart contents tonight, about half of the choices were back ordered. Grrrrr!

Plan B:

D&R Picayune
H&H Signature Virginia Spice
MATCH Revelation
Moonshine Pipes Co. XXX Blend
Sutliff Sunset Rum
Stokkebye 403 Luxury Bulls Eye
C&D Habana Daydream
H&H Signature Anniv. Kake
Stokkebye 84 Turkish
Bengal Slices

At least the 20% discount will cover the ship charges. ;)
