Haha... that 'digilog' can even have two meanings... smoking (or vaping) analog versus digilog... but you can als be using 'the digilog'... (guess that would fit for a cigar)... so that would make the pen-model a digistick, and the mini's, hmm... digitwig? ;)

Anyhow, I'll tell William (that's the one coming up with this idea) that you guys like it too... (I think the other forum where William is likes it very much also... so good chance it would be introduced on even móre places across the world at same time then, if both places would decide to use digi... even better... :D - Btw digi can easily be written as digital where 'official speak' would require that)

Well, it's not really a consensus, 53 voted against 42/ vapouriser of some sort or e-cigarette. It depends on how you analyse the figures.

The conversation has moved on since those options too, it's clear that some of us want to discuss newer words, it's not like anyone will be forced to use them though. If they are popular they will be accepted into use and if they aren't liked they will just fade away.

Digilog
Digirettte
Digistick

I like all of those. It will be very cool if we are in some kind of agreement internationally.

Well that was more in response to suggesting a supplier start using a particular term...when it wasn't necessarily what the majority voted on nor one that most found favorable.

I think that everyone should just call it whatever they want....and maybe something in particular will catch on to others. If someone wants to say "What type of digirette should I buy?"....by all means they can. Some others may take to it and start using the term themselves....while others won't.

Personally, I don't care what anyone calls it...neither suppliers nor users....as long as I know what the heck they are talking about!

I called it an electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS for short...lol) when I was explaining it to a co-worker the other day....but I would never call it that in general conversation.

And even then when I thought about it...some use no nic so that really wasn't accurate after all.

I agree, that's the main thing, we could have loads of names for the same thing and it doesn't matter a bit that we all use different ones.

ENDS is quite good but as you say there's the zero nic option that isn't covered by that.

This discussion is a little exercise in culture building as far as I can tell and if nothing comes of it then so be it. We're not doing any harm just looking at the possibilities.

Katink, if this is also being discussed on another forum could you give us a link to have a nosey at what's being said?

I think too, that it's about names to use next to the current ones... and see if something catches on or not. We can't just erase naming-history until now (would be nice if we could, but we can't) so we need to keep search-engines usable, those would only pick up gradual change, indeed more like a culture-change would work.

Kate, it won't do much good here (it's a dutch forum) but link to the thread there is nieuwe naam E- ROKEN :)

what's digital about electronic cigarettes? (serious question)

You could say anything with a microprocessor is considered digital. I think ecig batteries do have one, albeit a very simple one.

But really, the whole analog/digital naming thing with e-cigs comes from the feeling that the "old" way to do something is the "analog" way, and the "new/improved" way is the "digital" way.

yeah, I don't think it works so. These microprocessors are not ubiquitous across the models and are certainly not integral to the design. "Digital" doesn't really sum it up for me.

I thought Le VAP was clever, but it only really works in french. Can't remember what the poster said it stood for now. anyone else remember reading that post somewhere?

As for me, In official correspondence or to describe it, I will probably refer to it as an electronic vaporising device (EVD) or something similar.

i just got my 901 2 days ago and the first think i thought of when i looked at the atomizer is that it was very similar to a "glowplug" used in nitro rc cars and in some engines to vaporize fuel for ignition.I don't like the term e-cig or vaping but it seems like we could use the word glow in there some where glowstick is taken so maybie; glowcig glowstig or ciglow and going out for a "glow" i dont think it matters if we see the coil glowing or not im sure is nice and red under the steelfiber or it could refer to the led at the end glowing. bars could put up signs glowers welcome

I like the term I saw on here a while back. "I'm going for a fog" instead of ...

ahh the digital part is the IC logic inside the battery! Its certainly not the atomiser tho!!! Digilog sounds a bit dirty, "I am going to drop a digilog" they may think he/she is going to do something other than a vape break!!

I am more of a reader than a poster and I have been really happy about finding this forum that being said the way I came to find e-cigs or personal nicotine inhalers or foggers or vapers or vaporizers or whatchamacallits was thanks to a CES 2009 article because I am admittedly a nerd and a gadget freak. Said article was refering very specifically to e-cigarettes and from a starter perspective I wouldn't have been the slightest bit interested if it have had another name. I can very clearly see why any user would want to stay far, FAR away from any name containing cigarette in it but it is also very true that for those just starting up any other name would not really catch their eye... well except for fogger but that is also due to some other interests I have that have nothing to do with smoking. The perfect thing would be to find a name that can catch the eye of smokers but at the same time can steer clear from extreme controversy and personal vaporiser as very cool as it sounds it is just not something that would make your regular smoker look twice. Just my two cents although of course I am planning on moving back to Denmark where e-cigarettes are considered perfectly legal medical devices unlike an old thread I recall reading at some point states.

I agree with the poster who said that he would never have developed an interest in these products had they been called any name other than e cigarettes. Calling them something else is fine for those who are already converts, but for new people in search of an alternative to smoking, it just doesn't do it. Personally, I have not the slightest interest in vaporizers or foggers. What I do have an interest in is smoking....smoking anything that will give me the look, feel, and sensation of smoking. I would never have clicked on a link to vaporizers or foggers, and I would never have bought anything that did not resemble a cigarette. If we want others to become members of this community, why drive them away or do things that would fail to attract new people?
