All great input here....but...dont forget....this forum is FILLED with threads of success and failure of about every piece of vaping gear.

And as usual....fanboy vs as long as it works, rich vs just getting by, etc...apples vs oranges..etc...

So all this hub bub is no suprise...this issue is supply and demand and $$$.

It only makes great business sense....see a need, fill the void! Cant condeme any business entity that jumps in and accomplishes what the public wants. Dont want your stuff copied at a lower price? RAMP up production!!!

I have been on lists for the "unobtainables" for a long time....will I eventuallly get them? Who knows, patience and interest can only last for so long...before I move on...then the "in thang" is old news.

As I have stated several times in other threads...its YOUR $$$...spend it where YOU feel is right. If there are those who will condem you, then have them purchase the for you...simple as that....

I will buy what I want, where I want, when I want....if its not available for me....oh well....their business loss not mine. I will still be able to vape for a long time and enjoy every piece of gear I purchase....

Like said earlier....entry gear is great....then decide of you want to "move up"...

It's true, that some Chinese companies do operate really bad workplace policies. IE Foxcomm. The company who manufacture Apple products. However, because most vaping products do come from China, we can't really get away from this fact to be honest. Like I said before, make your own decisions about risk and also what you think is ethical. If you didn't buy any Chinese vaping products, you wouldn't be vaping, full stop. I'm not having a go mate and I get your points. But you simply can't avoid China if you vape.

I'm personally getting more into the whole rebuildable scene, and quite frankly, I'd buy from EU/US vendors 100%. If only their products were freely available. The reason I got a DID Mini was because it was freely available. Everything else simply isn't. That exclusivity does then lead you to look elsewhere, for similar products. Hence China.

Agreed Asha....and I try my best to avoid China if poss...I only use a Provari, who say it's all American...but who knows about the circuitry ?...and the DID.

No carto's or anything...but juice is another story, possible Chinese links there ??

Not going to get any argument from me. I have a genuine DID Mini and now the Chinese copy. The DID Mini is better made (and has a clear tank), the Chinese one has it's minor issues. But for the money it works easily as well as the original when push comes to shove.

Would I have bought the original if the Chinese had been available? Yes. I think I would. I have wanted a hand-built Genesis for what seems like forever. I had saved up the money to get one, and the DID Mini was available, there was no 18 month waiting list to get it. All plusses... I'm really happy I own it.

I'm also happy I own the other cheap rebuildables I do own... Without these cheap products I would have never bought the DID Mini in the first place. So I'd say, the knockoffs are a good thing to get people into the world of rebuilding in the first place. It's these cheap knockoffs that got me to part with my money. Without them Jim at Metal Madness/DID wouldn't have had my custom.

My next order is likely to be a Spheroid, they look awesome. If they are ever available that is. I wouldn't mind betting that this is the next style of rebuildable out of China. Will I still buy a Spheroid if I can get a knockoff? I have to say that I think I will. I do appreciate well built things. I do like to support boutique makers.

I will still buy the knockoffs though. As if they work. They work. And in the case of this Chinese DUD (!) it works great.

Very few useful posts regarding the device in question. I bought one this morning, I'll give it a go and post my findings.

As for the rest of the discussion, I'll say I agree with those who said this is more of a positive thing then a negative, more people getting into rebuildables will end up creating more market and more options.

I doubt there's a patent on the DID but even if there was, the Chinese companies would probably ignore it. With that said, I have a slightly odd hobby, building custom Rubiks Cubes. This hobby sees a lot of original designs knocked off and recently the builders have taken to contacting the companies producing the knock offs and more often then not the builder gets credit everywhere the knock off is sold and often a cut. Which is by far the best one could hope for without spending thousands to sue.

As for the health concerns, if you want to eliminate risks its really simple, quit vaping. I've been doing this for almost 4 years, and until rebuildables came along every inhale I took was from a chinese atty or carto. There's no proof either way, so if you want to be safe, just quit.

Well, you can't go wrong with that setup... In terms of juice, in my experience, all the better juices out there are not sourced from China. I tend to go for juices which are all EU/US sourced... But then, anyone can just "say" that can't they. I just don't like the flavour of Chinese Juice. So have stopped buying it.

Started out with a 2001 R6 and now I'm running a 2007 R6.... man is it a blast!!

Fantastic bike...I only wish I still had mine, I had to sell a couple of years back to help pay for a rather expensive honeymoon...lol...then kids come along and you just get so used to getting in a car and staying out of the cold U.K winters...but some day I will be back on two wheels, and it won't be a Harley that's for sure, not that there is anything wrong with them...they are a great bike but you can't beat a race replica for the adrenaline rush...lol.

P.S

Can you get the knee down ?

It's probably also worth posting this pic.

photo.jpg

Original is at the top. Sorry, the pic isn't great....

The Original DID is WAY smaller (And a lot neater with that lovely clear tank) than the chinese knockoff. This could sway some people. I think the Original simply looks far better on an Ego. It also has a much airier draw as well, which I personally prefer.

Thanks for the comparison pic! A picture is worth a thousand words. The overall size is not the only difference between the Original and the "clone".
To be honest, I feel they should be calling it the DID WANNABEE, instead of the DID CLONE. A clone is more perfected of the original it was copied from.

Overall, for the price, and the closeness, it's a good way to get your feet wet, or an okay one to put in the Zombie stockpile.
But, in no way, does it truely replicate the perfection of the Original and it should never be touted as doing so. It is a Wannabe, plain and simple. It's not even an exact clone.... with the exactness that would be required in order to properly call it a clone. It's a copycatters version. Plain and simple.

No knees down yet, I'm saving that for the track. I always wear jacket (astars), helmet (RF-1100) and boots(Sidi Corsa) on the street but I'll wait till I'm full suit and at the track before I start pushing the bigger lean angles. Should have my project bike on the road before next season and then I intend to do the full track-day season next year.

some eye candy, my lil Scuderia Yamaha ;):

....oops, on topic:

Thanks for the post with the comparison pics, it's nice to see em side by side.

My USA made G-Tank and my USA made bliSS will be the only things topping my Provari. If I like this DiD mini wannabee enogh to get a real one then I always have my buddies to sell me used stuff to ;)

Asha 23, thanks for the pics. I don't know if they can really be compared though the DID and the DUD. I am gonna get my hands on a DUD though, at this price it can be a mow your yard, beach combing, rock climbin' beat up Atty. Lord knows the Phoenix clone is jam up after some killer moddin'. So I intend to make mine into a BEAST! Daily driver 2005 FZ1, Power commanded, K&N breather, full english delkevic exhaust puttin down 160HP on rear wheel dyno. Yamaha Blue with knee down rippin through the smokies of course.

I have never owned a DiD but I taught a guy how to make wicks and coils on his. I must say that as well as it was put together I personally didn't really feel like it was even close to my bliSS as far as build, machining, stability and options. Don't get me wrong, that DiD hit like a champ and I don't think anybody would be disappointed how it vapes. We'll see how this DuD (that cracks me up) works out, I imagine it would at least be similar performance.

To the poster of the side by side pics, any notes on it's screws or how it performs?

Martinc, nice ride man!! And WTH, my girlfriend is Canadian and we adopt and foster boxers :toast::headbang:

No better way to change the mood of a thread than with gratuitous pics of high speed machines :p
