You need a micro or nano coil in there man .. A 5 wrap is pretty weak. You must have a vv mod if you have 32. Don't be afraid at all to take it to 3-4 ohms with a micro a 10 wrap will blow away your 5 wrap. I regularly use 3.2+ ohm coils rocking a 2.8 micro right now. Look at the micro coil thread.

I'm not sure how you guys are keeping cotton on the top of the coil. It starts burning every time for me.

Now, keeping it on a bed of cotton (at an angle), and maybe covering about 1/5 or less of the top towards the bottom part of the angled coil works pretty well for me. Flavor doesn't seem to be on par with other cotton builds. Nice thread here. Cool build.

Thought I had mentioned it was a micro coil - my bad. A 5-wrap, yes, but a micro in the sense that all wraps touch and were lit and squeezed, lit and squeezed, ala Super-X's technique.
The Gepetto mini takes a 14500 and has no volt or watt control.

I'm still learning the nano technique - I got the coil maybe 10 degrees off vertical on a cotton bed. The coil top is not obstructed by cotton. Wicking is not an issue.

Perhaps the mod type (wood box mechanical) is too slight for the task at hand..

Appreciate the feedback - always like learning new stuff and unlearning what I'm doing wrong. :)

As I said, 32ga was all I had.

I had to use more of an angle on my coil to get a good setup. There's so many different variables involved and so many different style attys its difficult to say which way is better. If the coil is good and tight and you have a nice layer of wet cotton over the top then it wont burn. I'm thinking of trying an almost vertical build with the bottom of the coil about 1/16" above the base. Then im going to cut one of my syringe needles to insert through the air hole so that I can channel air directly to the bottom of the coil. Could be interesting.

Just keep it wet and wicking. When I had my initial build, I would leave a tailing that would easily wick from the well. But I have gone away from cotton (for now) and working with silica bedding, and I leave the coil topless and still getting great flavor.

I just got my silica in last night, and it works great. This thing is a monster now!

Update: a few hours ago I tried a doubled-over dragon nano on my ERA. Using two strands of 28g coiled around a paper clip's leg, I made a single tiny .4 ohm coil. The vape was awesome. I wasn't comfortable with it though, with my PV was getting too hot including the switch. I would have preferred a longer, higher-resistance coil (maybe .8 or thereabouts) but the tiny space in the ERA wouldn't seem to allow it. So I dismantled the build and made another one almost identical but with only a strand of wire. Came in at 1 ohm, and I'm loving it. Seems to be putting out the same amount of vapor as the previous one sans the alarming hotness of the mod and atty.

And let me say this again, iTEO, this build you shared to us is just awesome. The look of the dragon itself when smokes (ugh, vapor) billows from its 'nostrils' is gold.

@dice57: I will post pics and info on the rsst build soon, have to finish rebuilding 6 atomizers today.

@Sickkboy: I've build mine at .6 and .8 and both produce really good vapor. I also did a 1.2 ohm... still puts out really good vapor. I'm liking it at .8 best tho.

@durianeliquidflavorplease: good lookin man! glad you liked it :)

I have 6 atomizers going to be built today. 2 RSST (done), 2 trident (1 done), A7 and Patriot.

Here's the trident... the battery is almost out on this tho :glare:

I dont quite understand with your setup while it's preferred to have both ends opened? but the coil in the pic is at an angle where one of the end sinks in the cotton bed? so is it better to have both end opened or one end?

BTW i build a coil with 28g 8 wraps on a t-pin at 0.8ohm accordingly to the itaste SVD vv mod (just for ohm reading only, i use a mech mod), does it sound about right?

Has anyone successfully pulled off one of these setups on a kayfun or russian. If so id like to see some pics of it. I want to try this on my kayfun 3.1 and the only way i can think of wicking it is to lay the cotton over the coil and into the wells.

Yes, both Cyrus and I have the Russian cooking using a vertical mounted coil over the air intake, with the cotton around the outside of the coil. I tuck the cotton into the juice deck around the positive terminal side of the coil, and then into the opposite juice deck, leaving the negative side of the coil uncovered.. Were calling it the Volcanic Dragon. lol. Check out Cyrus Vap's vid a few pages back on his Russian 91% Volcanic Dragon Build.

I'm going to try a dual coil setup, on the Russian, with one coil over each juice deck, but probably won't get to it till Sunday. Good luck, love this build on the Russian, so easy to swap out wick, & dry burn. Great vape too.
