Thanks everyone for the nice comments about our old buildings. I googled those but I have a lot more of the water that I took since we are situated on a peninsula. I love the water. I can't wait for BF to finish his sailboat even though I'm a bit nervous about going out on a sailboat. I had a kayak but had to sell it so I'm really missing being out on the water where is so peaceful and quiet.

Good morning Papa. I've had some sad news. My paw paw who has been home with hospice care for the last two weeks had a light stroke last night. The hospice nurse started him on a morphine drip this morning. He is looking forward to seeing maw maw again and is ready to go. I would not be selfish enough to ask him to stay a moment longer here with me. Will you please just keep my family in your prayers.

I'm sorry for you Evie but happy for your paw paw if that is what he wants. I'm sure he misses her very much.

Aww Princess, I'm sorry to hear that. He wants to go, but I know that it will be hard on you and your family. One day, you will all meet again and in a far better place.

My prayers are with you and your family, sweetie.

It will be a joyous moment for us all. He has missed maw maw since the moment she went home. He visited her grave everyday when he was able. :)

Terry, we don't have any old buildings here in the U.S., at least not according to European standards. One of my British friends casually mentioned that the pub at the top of his road, was built in the 1400s. Now, that's old !!!!!

We have so many old buildings here but a lot of them have been renovated and don't look as old now. I lived in an old Victorian house when I was growing up. Not too long ago it was a tour house but the current owners stopped that. I would love to go inside and see how it's changed. I probably wouldn't recognize it. There are several old mansions here that still do tours though. That's what drives the tourists here. :glare:

Our town hall was built in the early 1890s. It has been renovated a number of times, but never updated. It's a treat to see those old oak doors and the winding wooden staircases. There are even 4 carefully preserved jail cells on the basement level, from when the police station was located in the town hall. Going there, is like travelling back in time. There has been talk over the years, about building a new town hall, but I hope that they don't do that.

What a bunch of cool buildings in your town, Terry. Thanks for all the pics.

Looks like cool and windy here for a couple of days. Crossing my fingers that we don't go down to freezing. It'll be close tonight with a prediction of 37 degrees. We often go several degrees cooler than predicted.

Of course I way over did it yesterday and I have a house to clean today. I hope I survive this.

I got a small tree and a large forsythia moved yesterday. Yay! My plans for the backyard are starting to come together.

I'm considering bark for the entire backyard, basically where you would have a lawn. We are going to put up a cover to BBQ under that looks just like the horse stalls without the bars on the sides on the west side of the backyard. It will sit just behind the wind fence. We are thinking 10 feet by 20 feet. This is an economical way to get a covered area and will tie in with our Western look around here.

On the front side of the imagined covered area is our yellow locust tree which is small now but should reach as far as the covered area as it gets bigger. There are a couple of crabapple trees in the center of our bark lawn. Then a few planters with flowers and we are looking good. Of course, we have the berm filled with flowers and the pond. The west side has some shrubs and small trees. We also have some pine trees growing and they are going to create a wonderful forest look for us in the far west side of the berm.

I told Hubby I want to start completing this backyard this year. We have been here nine years on July 6th and it is time to have an area to hang out, relax and enjoy our little slice of paradise.

I realllly like the sounds of your plans! Good luck! :)

What things? I told you not to sterilize your house for me. That included going to ANY trouble for my visit. :glare:

Let's see. She said goodbye so we won't see her again until...I'd say Tues. Any bets? :(

Terry, she must think that you are going there to inspect her house. A lived in house is much more comfortable than a showcase house.

She better not. I told her I didn't want to feel like I was visiting a hospital. She assured me that wouldn't be the case.

No, no - I'm not one to live in a sterile environment. After all, I live in a forest and have two utilities locaters here that track in mud all the time. And, I don't think that Terry has any intention of inspecting my house. If she did, I wouldn't really care anyhow. But, I would like to get a few things done that I've been putting off. For one thing: Lexi absolutely shredded my window seat covers. I've had the fabric to make new covers for months, but I keep spending waaay too much time on the computer. I've also got legal matters to take care of because my son is probably breaking ground on his house this weekend. I need to get those things taken care of. But I can't if I spend all of my time socializing. Just sayin'.

 You made a lier out of me, you came back and it's still today. :p

That's cool that I've motivated you to get some things done that you've been putting off. Just don't over due it. I plan on inspecting your woods not your house although I want to see everything especially your studio...and of course the hot tub. :D

Fingers crossed that Dave can start breaking ground this weekend. :toast:

Evie - I'm sorry to hear that your PawPaw is not well nor long for this world. It is so hard to lose the ones you love. I still miss my grandma who was 92 years old when she passed. When I went for a visit a few weeks before that she kept saying, "I'm ready. I'm ready. I'm ready." I knew she was ready to go but that didn't make me miss her any less.

It is raining here and I am loving it. The horses are under the cover in one of their new stalls. The dogs are all wet like they haven't had the sense to get out of the rain. I started the wood stove since it is cloudy, rainy and only 65 degrees inside the house.

PS - I saw my first hummer today. Hubby said he heard one but I actually saw one sitting at the hummingbird feeder when I got home. Good thing I put that feeder up early in the year this year.

I think mine is a bit too lived-in. Gotta get to spring cleaning. My excuse is that I want to wait till mud season is over before washing the floors. Of course, I remove my shoes and boots at the door, but there's a very dirty spot where my barn boots rest.

Speaking of the barn, I went to see Penny today. It's been a while, since I didn't feel up to it with the cold. She had lots of loose hair to groom out. And while I was there, she pooped, so I collected a small turd for a fecal exam. I do this rather than routinely deworming her every 2 months, as was the old protocol. But worms are getting resistant to dewormer, so now getting a fecal exam and deworming only when there's a certain amount of worms present is the way to go.

So when I got home, I phoned the vet to see where I should leave the manure. She called me back just a little while ago and told me where to leave it, so I was driving over there with a baggie of manure, when the NPR station I usually listen to started with their fund drive. The woman said, "Maybe you're home cooking dinner or in your car with a friend on the way to the movies … " and I chuckled. I bet I was the only one in the listening audience driving manure to the vet's at 5:30 on a Friday evening.
