In keeping with the recent discussion, here's my own UFO photo. Not photoshopped but it's a trick.

I shot into the glass doors of the town offices, and the ceiling lights in the hallway inside showed up as did the reflection in the glass of the outside. Did I fool you for a moment?

It's almost time for bed, so you may not see any more of me this evening. Good night, everyone.

It didn't fool me for a second but it is a very cool shot. :)

"I'm back and feeling reasonably sociable again. It's been brutally cold here, (this morning it was -14 when I woke up) and I feel a great deal like Cinderella. I have non-stop fire tending duties to keep the furnace from kicking on. If I saved every splinter that I've pulled, I'd have enough kindling for a week. Not really, but you get my drift. I have a new infrared heater for my bedroom and another for my bathroom. Then there's a borrowed one in my kitchen and a "floater" for wherever it's needed. The young folks living downstairs have their own. I'm aware that my electric bill will go up, but I'm thinking that it won't be anything like the propane bills that I've gotten lately"

Oh my, Raven, is that a negative fourteen? Stay warm. Your poor hands and those horrible splinters. Glad you are back to feeling reasonably social.

The trainer came over and got Nevada started with driving training. Nothing to special. Round penned him on a long line for awhile. Nevada was much calmer in the round pen which has been one of my goals.

Then got the surcingle and crupper on him. Lunged him a bit more. This time he got a buck out of Nevada. "There's the Nevada we know", says the trainer.

He then put the reins onto Nevada's halter. He worked at getting behind Nevada who did not get this concept at all. He kept trying to turn around to face Steve. he got him to go around a few times walking behind him. Nevada would stop and face him and then Steve would get him going again. We kept it reasonably short. When Nevada looked tired, we quit.

A couple of times Nevada came towards me like "Save me, you're the owner." I was laughing. "Don't look at me, I won't save you." I stepped away from the round pen and sat down.

I got Wiseguy on the road after that. We went around the block which probably equals a mile and a half. He did great. He looked a bit worn out and sweaty by the time I got him home. He didn't get weird about the dogs in the area. He did try to turn into a driveway...he did that last time as well. I have got to be steering him as we go by the driveways:)

One reason he looked a bit worn out when we got home was I took him down tenth street. I like tenth street but it is starting to be a bit sandy. When we got to the end to turn there were two large puddles. Wiseguy threaded around them like a pro. I was so proud of my little horsey.

I saw one of the neighbors and we will be getting together later in the week.

It was cold here this morning, too. I think we get Rave's weather a little after she gets it. It was minus 10 when I got up this morning, though I think it must have warmed up into the positive single digits by now. I was saying to Bill this morning that I'd be happy if the temperatures were in the 20s at night and the 30s during the day. That would feel so warm after all the really cold weather we've had. I don't mind snow on the ground as much as the ferocious cold.

Lizzie, it sounds like Wiseguy and Nevada are doing really well. Why do you think Wiseguy wants to turn into that driveway all the time? Did you used to turn down it for some reason? Sometimes horses get stuck in a rut. If you make something a habit, they want to do it every time. I call it the milk horse syndrome. You know how a milk horse of yore would know the route and which houses to stop at without the deliveryman having to tell him? Horses are definitely creatures of habit!

It wasn't the same driveway, we were on a different road:) I'm not sure what the little goober is thinking but I know I best be steering him when we are near driveways. This is twice now that he caught me off guard and I was was saying "Whoa, whoa, whoa, where are you going?!"

Jack Frost did some artwork on my shed window, and I played around with it. Here are the results.

When I was little, when someone told me Jack Frost painted on the window, I thought a real man named Jack Frost had snuck into my bedroom in the night to do the artwork. It made me sort of afraid that some man could sneak in and paint while I slept.

You never know what kids are thinking.

When I was little my dad told me a story about a tapeworm that popped out of a woman's nose. I had seen a drawing of a tapeworm and I was horrified.

Not too long after that, my grandma said "Betty, you are so thin and yet you eat so much you must have a tapeworm." I'm sure she was teasing me.

I spent ten years worrying about having a tapeworm. I don't know why I just didn't ask my dad or grandma about it. Could have saved myself a lot of worrying.

 Oh wow! That's certainly intriguing!

Thanks everyone for the Photobucket info.:)
And thank you, Sandy. I promise(cross my heart) that the photo is for personal enjoyment only. Maybe as a desktop background or something.:p

Celti - I've been wondering if you are feeling the effects of Winter Storm Pax? Be careful out there! It's gonna be ugly for a lotta folks down South.

Yeah - That was minus fourteen alright. I really feel sorry for my son who has to work outdoors all day. My only difficulty is constantly hauling in firewood and feeding the fire. My back is not happy with such activities - at all. But, things are supposed to warm up considerably next week into the mid-to-upper 50's and bring on day after day of rain. Guess what my creek is gonna do. flood.gif

I really enjoy your training and driving stories. It's funny how you describe what they seem to be thinking and your response. How are the new pups?

Ohmygosh! These are incredible! The linear and angular natures of some of the lines is amazing to me. What makes it do that? I like your application of color too.

What a horrible thing to have been worried about for so long. :(

It is amazing how the frost actually goes in straight lines. How does it do that?

The new dogs are doing great. Rusty, Sassy and Willie are all outside getting into trouble right now. Hopefully not real trouble.

I'm keeping a close eye on them still. No barking at the goats! I'll keep them locked up at night until I am pretty sure they won't harass the goats and horses or try to get out of the yard.

unfortunately, no sign of the cat and no cat food gone, I think. I may have to get some kittens in the spring and train the dogs to leave them alone. Hubby says that his co-worker says that his Catahoula leopard dogs get along fine with the cats they own but stray cats are not allowed on the property by the dogs. Who knows? Maybe Jr. wills how up again.

I have my bread rising and I should go out and get some more chores done before the wind comes up. I made whole wheat bread just to change it up.

I started thinking how some of the shapes reminded me of ferns or bent weeds in a field, and I started with green, thinking of foliage, but then I got crazy and tried all different colors. Some shapes suggested certain colors to me.

I don't know what makes frost have the patterns it does. Maybe the flow of air? Lots of times, there are lines and little spots of snowflake-looking things, but it's never quite the same. I've taken photos of the frost on that window before. In the past, the colors from outside were sort of a background, but now, with snow on the ground, the photos were basically b&w, so I decided to dress them up a little. As I was photographing them, I thought, "Jack Frost, the first modern artist."

I sure hope your cat is OK. He may just decide to leave home and adopt a neighbor. Cats will do that if someone nearby is going to feed them. An adult cat that the dogs chase has little chance of getting used to the dogs and vice versa.
