This is the set up for the fruit tree zone and shows the front area zone as well. The fruit tree zone has the blue timer on it.

One important note here: The manifold with the valves was made special by Hubby. It is a full flow manifold unlike most of the manifolds you can buy. It is sort of pointless to make sure we have 3/4 inch tubing and the manifold is less than 3/4 inch flow rate.

The manifold is hooked to the faucet with a 3 foot long, high pressure hose that resembles the hoses found in cars. That way the faucet can be left on all the time and you don't blow out your flimsier normal hose. If you want to use a timer, then it is important to be able to leave the faucet turned on all the time. That is the black hose you see in the upper left of the photo. That is also what the short black hose is that starts the fruit tree zone from the manifold.

You can't see it in this photo but right behind my feet is a 3/4 x3/4 x3/4 inch T that hooks the header into the bottom of the assemblage.

This shows the 3/4 inch header, which is 50 feet going easterly and 100 feet going westerly on a T from that timer, filter, pressure regulator assembly.

This "T" is 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 inch. The mainline tubing going south from the header is 1/2 inch.

The 1/2 inch mainline tubing is running approx. 100 feet per row and there are 6 rows. Each row has about 6 trees on it although the last couple of rows to the east [or left] have a few less.

That 1/2 inch mainline tubing has 1/2x1/2x/1/2 inch "T's" coming off it. One "T" per tree. Each tree has a pigtail of 7 - one gallon in line emitters. The emitters are spaced at 12 inches apart. So, each tree gets 7 gallons of water per hour.

Here is an overview that shows two or so rows with the half inch lines running south on each row of trees.

The lines end just beyond the pine trees at the end of the fruit tree rows and are closed off [they dead end].

In the back near the veggie garden on the farthest hose bib, we have a large manifold that runs the "North zone" that is the hedge going around the garden and all the trees near the horse/goat pens. That manifold also has the two veggie garden zones on it and the hoses for the garden the greenhouse and the animals.

The manifold is hooked to the faucet with a high pressure hose. then the manifold and then the filter, the pressure regulator and then the timers. We actually have it set up so that the veggie garden gets it's own filter and regulator since it is set up for 20PSI on the lines or less.

The North zone has 40 PSI and so has its own filter and regulator.

This shows the portion of the manifold for the North zone. The manifold is set up with individual turn off valves. Right now the valve is off since it is the veggie garden's time to be watered. It will be turned on when it is time to water the North zone.

The 3/4 inch mainline tubing travels about 40 feet to this brand new "T" I just installed. The tubing going to the left is the tubing I hooked up to water the Far North zone. You can see one of the in line valves I installed to turn off the North Zone. That means I am watering the Far North zone.

The Far North zone has its own valve on its line that is turned off when I want to water the North Zone.

I have timers coming for each zone.

I have more timers coming next week and most of the zones will have their own full flow timer at that point. I may be one short. If I am, I will probably order one more:)

That is a lot of money and time spent to have a garden and still be stingy with the water. I respect all the work you have done on it. Would putting the lines a few inches underground get any results?

Good question.

The reason we don't put them underground is because of the cold. We have to water in the winter as best we can since we get no precipitation and the trees, especially the evergreens, still need to get water. The lines will thaw out and we can water if it stays warm for a few days.

We have to take the timers off for the winter. I also have to elevate the manifolds to make sure they don't have water in them each time we are done watering during the winter... since ice will form in the water left inside and will break the manifolds. Then Hubby has to make new ones.

I should point out that putting the lines underground doesn't save any money on watering but it does protect the lines from UV rays and therefore the lines last about 10 years vs the 7 years with the lines laying on top of the ground. That is an approximation and our lines that are 8 years old are still working although the oldest line is about 9 years old and is starting to spontaneously develop tears and is therefore more delicate that it used to be. The tears are easily repaired using an inline coupler. You cut out the tear and stitch the line back together with the coupler.

I decided to redo the fruit tree zone this year and the rest of the front zone next year.

Those who worried will be comforted to know that yes, they are putting gingerbread back on the house. Here's a photo from today.

Looks like they are really trying to keep the home looking original but it will probably be a nicer, toastier home with all that new fangled Tyvek insulation.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I'll take a photo of my setup tomorrow. It's nowhere nearly as complex as yours, just the one zone. My thought was to put an "X" after the large filter, backflow preventer, fertilizer injector, pressure regulator and small filter. That would give me three zones selectable with manual valves. I would probably only shut off the two zones for around the house when fertilizing the garden, or vice versa, since the rate of fertilization is higher for the garden. None of the runs are over 100 feet so I can live with half inch mainline tubing. It's amazing how inexpensive the components for the system really are.

Hey guys. We got here last night but I was too tired to post. The last two days driving were very comfortable temp wise. It's been nice and cool today also. We're hoping to go look at houses tomorrow but it's iffy.

I hate typing on glass so I'm keeping this short. Will post updates as I get them. Its so good to be back here again and it's so peaceful here. :)
