If this pic doesn't turn out, it's my gym that has been collecting dust 'cause I haven't had room to set it up.

It'snowing lots of dandrif here but not sticking yet. It will when the temp drops this evening.

So Terry how much do you love the new place? :)

A baby shower for a horse? I've never heard of anything like that, but then I only know a few people that have horses. Sounds like a fun way to catch up with the folks from the old barn though.

Never fear, I have never heard of a baby shower for a horse, either. I think Deb made this one up out of her fertile imagination.

Terry, if you are aching from just the work you need to do around the property, do you really think you'll need exercise equipment? Well, it might come in handy when the weather's too bad for outside work.

The point of it is that when your life doesn't demand much activity, you still need to stay active, so that you can meet work demands later without getting sore.

What 0 said. I sure don't need it now but when things settle down I'm hoping to strengthen my bad shoulder. Right now it needs rest but there is too much work to do, like gathering firewood. That's more fun anyway. Aches be damned. LOL!

I need spell checker. How can a smart phone be so dumb as to not have spell checker?

Terry, when we moved into this house I set up a gym in the basement. Nice, professional elliptical trainer, weight bench, lat tower, crunch bench, rack full of free weights, calf step for raises or squats and all on a nice, soft, rubber tile floor. I think I've actually worked out down there about twenty times since I finished it. I get enough exercise just mowing, cutting, digging, tilling, weeding, painting, cleaning, shoveling and yada yada. I suspect you may find the same situation....just a guess.

Heck, I spent the afternoon yesterday mulching leaves with the mower on about half the front yard, where they were really heavy, and about 3/4 of the backyard. Of course, before that was branch patrol to get all the bigger stuff the wind blew down.

Today it was clean the gutters, AGAIN, then I took the air conditioner (14000BTU) out of the window, cleaned it and the case, took it down to the basement and cleaned the windows. Tomorrow I'm taking it easy, mixing some liquids and building a Big Fogger. I tried building the Fogger today, but I'm too tired to fuss with it.

We're getting some rain that already started and is supposed to last until tomorrow night. There may be some snow well north and west up in the northern Poconos before it turns to rain there too, but again the news is reporting it, team coverage and it wasn't even raining or snowing for their reports, like it's the storm of the century. Their preoccupation with "climate change" is getting really irritating.

My windows are now triply insulated with the pink styro sheets I bought last year. This time, instead of a four-inch gap at the top of the windows, I have some sheets of plexiglass taped to a four-inch gap in the middle. I still have windows! They are 4 X 17 but they let in a bit of light and give me a glimpse of what it is like outside before I open the door (or check wunderground) I also put some moisture-attracting gizmos in there to reduce frost.

I think we're supposed to get that. Often, I've noticed our weather is about like the Poconos. On the car radio they said there would be a mixture of snow, sleet, and rain. There might not be much accumulation, but they warned about ice, and often that's worse than fluffier snow.

I could have taken the kids to the zoo today anyway. It was gray and cloudy, but no precipitation. I wish I could find a more reliable Internet weather site. Any suggestions?

I check the local TV stations for radar and cloud cover, then factor in the wind and make my own guesses. They seem convinced that "climate change" is a done deal and can be predicted. Heck, they can't predict weather reliably for more than twelve hours in advance. Weather is variable, heat spells, cold spells, rainy spells, snowy spells, fast temperature changes and nice spells. This "cold snap" is an example...reported as epic, but lower temperature happened back in the 40's and that never gets mentioned. The same is true of the drought in California. It is bad, but the one that happened in the 12th century makes this one look like the Garden of Eden.

Yes, it's early to be this cold, but it has happened before in recorded history and is certainly nothing new. I think it's a function of having to report something combined with being able to monitor what's actually going on, real time, nation wide or even continent wide. Makes for some dramatic reporting of nothing particularly news worthy or interesting but does fill the time for the broadcasters.

I don't think it's particularly cold for this time of year. Maybe the cold snap missed us. In fact, I thought it was odd that we haven't seen frost on the grass early in the morning more than once or twice so far. I remember the first winter we came here from California, we had a huge snowstorm on Halloween. And another year, we headed to Philadelphia for my mom's birthday (about now) and the snow was so bad we found a motel for the night somewhere in the Poconos. Of course, these were memorable, not the norm, but it means that up here, so far, the weather has been fairly mild. Yes, it's colder now that it was a week or so ago, but then it seemed mild weather had hung on longer than usual, so I wasn't surprised when it went back to normal.

This early cold spell is a result of that wicked storm that hit Japan and Alaska a week ago-- same thing happened last winter, but it was deeper into the winter season, so was colder. Back when we were kids, severe cold snaps were just things that happened, it has only been in recent years that they have been able to tie north Pacific storms with vicious cold weather here.

The TV weather people have to have passion and some acting ability to keep up viewer's interest. Play it up.

I subscribe to the theory that weather extremes are the result of the more subtle trend towards global warming.

I am a skeptic. Back in the 70's the prediction was that by now there would be global drought and sea levels would be three feet higher. That didn't happen.

Then it was going to get colder and cause famine that way. That didn't happen either.

Now, the polar ice cap is expanding, not shrinking, and the same is true in the Antarctic. There are more polar bears than ever before despite the dire reporting to the contrary, check the latest "polar bear census". The excess heat is not being stored in the deep ocean, or anywhere else that can be found, and global temperatures have not gone up appreciably in the last twenty years or so. Instituting draconian measures to reduce "green house gases" here in the US will have little to no effect since the rest of the world, China and India in particular, aren't doing anything at all to not pollute, let alone limit "green house gases".

I still think the whole thing is the result of micro-analysis of normal weather events combined with snake oil salesmen trying to sell carbon credits to make their wallets get a lot thicker very quickly as they fly around in their private jets warning us we have to stop driving cars. Keep in mind that the original reports showing global warming were the result of cherry picked data from one tree, out of thousands, by the Hadley research group.
