Since I started feeding them this hay. Really, it has been about a month so it is some of this hay, I guess.

Some of the poop piles looked like cow patties. Not quite to ........ but not road apples at all. Close to .........

I wormed about a month ago, I think.

Then, I gave them sand clear about 2 weeks ago.

I thought the poops were improved but not great sometimes. More like poop piles than piles of road apples, sometimes. It has been a mystery as to why they don't have proper poop.

Lizzie, yes, I see what you mean about the mane. Thanks.

As for the poop, the consistency can vary if a horse is on grass (it'll be softer) rather than hay, because of more moisture content in the grass. But it should be formed, not a splat. I wonder if the hay you've been feeding had more moisture, and now it's beginning to mold. Of course, if it was really moldy, you'd see it, but what if it's just beginning, and the horses know, though it's not yet visible?

0mg, thanks for the input. I'll fix what you folks have suggested and wait for more input before it goes into the frame.

I have a busy morning: make baked potato salad, finish and frame the drawing, gift-wrap it, find an appropriate card, take a shower, and get to the party by 1 pm. Whew!

I sure hope the new hay solves the problem. I think it's likely to.

First - Really NICE ! ! ! "SandySu" . . . Especially like what "You" did with the eye - makes the foal look so bright and cheery . . . Also, the "Star" is perfect ! ! !

Now - I do think the picture is very close to the picture, the only suggestions I have are very minor and are not actually "necessary" given that the picture and photo are not going to be side-by-side, but "You" might consider . . .

Next a Side-by-Side Comparison image for "Rave"/"Terry" or anyone else that is willing to help "SandySu" . . .

XKZ0mdd.jpg

Now - Here is what I see that possibly could be modified . . .

bIRHaOV.jpg

1) Mane could be a little redder/"Chestnut" color as "Liz" mentioned
2) Slope of Ear needs to be added to, looks as though just the channel is sitting there.
3) The parts of the Harness, especially across the nose should be defined more (maybe with a darker shadow) so the areas are raised up off the face as in the picture.
4) Nostril could be a little narrower, but is really not as noticable unless picture and photo are side by side.

Last - and definitely not necessary . . .

5) The Nose or Lower portion below the Nose band could be slightly elongated and a bit narrower - however again it is really not as noticable unless picture and photo are side-by-side.

Well - I hope this information is somewhat helpful . . . :D

@ "SandySu" - Glad it was helpful . . .

EDIT: If you looked at the ear again, there is a highlight that brings the slop (Or the outside edge or cup/back of the ear) from the head to the tip up a little more then what is in the picture . . .

BTW: I looked a little more at the Side-by-Side and saw this area that may also need to be slightly modified . . .

Thanks uncle for the side by side. I'm prob too late now but the nostril needs to be wider. Also the right ear on the outside where there is highlight running down the ear, there is a very black line from the end of the highlight to the halter. I don't see that in the photo.

Done. You were just in time. it's going into the frame now.

SandySu - Have fun at the party!!!!!

I just got back from getting hay. I broke out the new hay and gave each horse a little inside their stalls. They started eating right away.

I went and checked their tire feeders and, sure enough, they did not eat much of that old hay even though it was from the new bale I opened yesterday.

Also, the goats did not touch the old hay. They ate the alfalfa on top but not the old hay from the new bale I opened yesterday.

I'm crossing my fingers that everyone feels better.

Thanks for all the help this morning with the horse picture. It was a big hit. Only problem is, Kelly still hasn't told her family about the new horse, so she says she doesn't know what she'll do with the picture. I wonder when she'll break the news.

The party was fun, and we chatted about our horses. One of the women who boards her horse at Deb's wants me to do a portrait of her Guinea pig. She said getting a picture is hard, and I suggested waiting till spring when she can let the Guinea pig out in the yard and I can photograph him on the grass.

Someone else had a beloved Appaloosa mare who died a while ago, and she wants to see if she can find some good photos so I can draw from one of them.

So each time I give a picture to someone, other guests at the party see it and think about getting one, too. Whether any of them will actually get me to do one is another story, but fortunately, I'm not all that eager to do it, so I won't be very disappointed if no one asks me to.

The baked potato salad was a hit, as usual. I really recommend it for those dish-to-pass parties. If anyone wants the recipe, just ask me. Deb's husband was upstairs when I came, and when he heard "baked potato salad," down he came, dish and fork in hand!

Last, we went out to the barn to see the baby. He is so mellow and laid back! He looked like he loved the attention.

The baby sounds sweet. Glad you had fun, SandySu.

The horses are fed and they are definitely eating the new hay I bought this morning.

I also gave them some bran and alfalfa pellets that I moistened with warm water.

I picked up all the old poop so we can be sure of what the new poop looks like in the morning.

Wiseguy does seem more like his old self this afternoon. Not so clingy.

I'm glad Wiseguy seems to feel better. It's times like this when you wish they could talk, isn't it?

Yes, I do wish they could talk. Wiseguy has been trying to tell me something for a while now and I just could not figure out what it was. I hope I got the message, cute little buddy:)
