Hmmm....round ice cubes. Does that mean you'll be sucking on cold round balls (of ice) once the booze is gone?

Lizzie, I couldn't click "like". I hope Wiseguy is OK.

I keep seeing deer, overnight, on the security camera and sometimes see them across the street in the back where the little creek is. Squirrels are like rabbits around here and we have a lot of rabbits, too. I saw a ground hog a few times, but my neighbor caught him and released him about ten miles away in the woods. He was munching on my neighbors broccoli and cauliflower. It was funny that he didn't get into our garden, too.

Sandy, I think that it's because boiling gets out all of the impurities in the water.

I thought that at first, but then I thought if you have hard water, doesn't that just concentrate the minerals? Boiling would kill germs, but I doubt germs would show up as something you could see in an ice cube.

I'm worried about Wiseguy. He isn't eating and he is backing up a lot and staying away from Nevada.

I felt his jaw and didn't feel any swelling.

I checked his feet, nothing obvious.

I am worried he might have colic.

I came in to call the vet and make another cup of coffee.

Sending vibes that nothing too serious is wrong with Wiseguy. Do you know if he hasn't been drinking much? In cold weather, some horses won't drink cold water as readily as warmer water. Do you use bucket heaters? Let us know what the vet says.

Well......it's better than the toilet. LOL

He would drink out of the toilet if I didn't keep the lid down. He even tried to drink out of my bathtub of water that I left for humidity. He fell in LOL! Thankfully it wasn't very deep so he could scramble out by himself. He's 17 yrs old so he probably had a hard time getting out and this happened in the middle of the night. He was still soaked when I got up but no worse for wear. :)

Boiling just settles the minerals at the bottom of the pan like in the pic I posted.

I guess that it would have to be set up like a Still, with a coil to let the water cool and another (sealed) container to catch the cooled water.

Lizzie, I hope that Wiseguy is ok. :)

Boiling just gets the excess oxygen, and other gasses, out. The mineral content, unless you condense the steam, will remain basically the same or go up slightly depending on how much water boils away during the process. We have a five stage reverse osmosis filter that removes all the minerals and the ice cubes still have the "fog" effect. I guess boiling is the only was to get clear ice cubes. I wonder how commercial ice machines do it?

Good morning to you all :)

A bit chilly but very sunny here, if you stay out in the sun you can actually warm your self. A little windy too.

I got my el cheapo ice mould today. My other ice tray broke and i thought "why cubes?? I want round"

Do they not have an IKEA in Greece? You could've gotten stars and hearts too!

Morning Volties, well, morning to me still. Windows decided to restart just as I started my post, so I'm even later.

Rave, we got about 5 inches of snow over two days, so not too bad at all. We cleaned it up fast though because we are expecting sleet this weekend and don't want to have an icy mess. Right now it's 22°, clear and sunny, yay!

Lizzie, I sure hope it's nothing serious bothering Wiseguy, please let us know what the vet says.

Terry, Do you have a bird feeder set up? If you want to see more wildlife, a feeder will bring everything in to investigate, which is not always a good thing, lol.

Have a wonderful day gang!

Hey rave!
Well, it's ice, round shaped... That's it..
Actually less corners means slower melting and mixing/wattering whiskey or drinks but i just use it in coffee so i don't care about the shape.
If you double boil the water first you get crystal clear ice and makes it cool looking.

There are many shapes including a death star shaped ice thingy.

You are a strange and fascinating man, Tritium. I get such a kick outta you.

No weather news here either. Sunny, 10 degrees when I got up way too early, no wind.

I saw a possum in my woods last evening. He was watching a stray cat very closely. That makes 1 deer, a couple of squirels & a possum. No racoons yet.

You need bait. :)

Maybe the ground hog is aware of Bo? I know that my wildlife dwindled down to zero when I had Lexi here. That's one huge predator. Just sayin'.

Ugh - sleet is NOT fun. Hope that your weather stays fine instead. It's sunny and almost 35 degrees here, so I took a walk through the woods just to see who all has been wandering through. LOTS of deer. I think that they are all staying in my neck of the woods for safety. I didn't see any turkey tracks though. I hope that they haven't been hunted out.

No bird feeders yet. Rave's going to help me with that. We need to figure out where to put them so the squirls (sp) can't get to them.

Use a chain, Terry. A swing chain is perfect and put a cone on the chain, just above the feeder. I used a small bucket for the cone, drilled a hole in the bottom of it and slid it down the chain. Squirrels are smart critters, they will chew through a rope, so that the feeder will fall to the ground. They will climb a tree and slide down the chain, to get to the feeder, if there is not a cone there.

I had one get past all my obstacles, but it did not get by me. I saw it maneuver itself to the feeder and I went out there. Seeing me, frightened the squirrel, 'cause it knew, that it shouldn't be there. In a panic, it ran up the chain and right into the bucket, hitting it's head on the "top" of the bucket, in the process. Knocked a bit senseless, it fell to the ground, but quickly came to it's senses and ran off. LOL

Well, loved seeing Mary Alice and the cat.

Your squirrel story made me laugh, Jer.

Looks like Wiseguy is okay. I bought some bran on the way home. I gave them each about one third of a cup and mixed it with water to a slurry.

The vet said to feed him some bran.

Neither horse seems to be eating a lot of hay. Wiseguy didn't seem to eat any. I wonder if there is something wrong with the new bale I opened. Looked okay to me.

Suddenly, both horses are in the hay and eating. Go figure. There shouldn't be any hay left by now but there is. And it looks like the goobers are eating.

Whew! I'm glad to hear that Wiseguy is OK! Sometimes, hay that looks perfectly good to humans is rejected by horses for some unknown reason. This is not the first time I've heard of it. I remember years ago, when I was a horse 4-H leader, I went to a horse seminar for horse 4-H leaders at Cornell University. One of the classes was on feeding and nutrition, and another 4-H leader brought a baggie of the hay she had at home that none of her horses would eat to ask what was wrong with it. The teacher of the class, someone who was an expert in horse nutrition, said he didn't see anything wrong with the hay. They sniffed it and sifted it through their hands. He said it looked like perfectly good hay.

I guess Wiseguy was just sulking because he didn't like the hay. I wonder why the bran mash worked to stimulate their appetite.

Can you return the hay for another batch?

I think I mentioned that I decided to give Kelly a pastel portrait of her new "baby" for the shower tomorrow. I wasn't too inspired to do it, but I figured that it's one gift that no one else will give her. I think I'm best working under pressure. I procrastinated most of the week, doing a little, but not very much. Then, today, I decided I had to do it or go out and buy her something, so I did it. I think it turned out pretty well. One thing I can't figure out is that it looks more like an adult horse than a foal. Why? I don't know. All I can guess is that I'm used to drawing adult horses, and I missed something in the translation. I can't figure out what, though. I heard somewhere that if you want to see the defects in your drawing, hold it up to the mirror and look at the reflection, and any mistakes pop out at you, so I did that. Wasn't I surprised when the reflection looked more like a foal! I'm totally confused.

I'll take a picture of it tomorrow morning so that anyone can give me advice. I wish Rave would be here, but I bet she'll be occupied with BF. Terry, will you be able to help? Uncle? Anyone else? You don't have to know about art, just have an eye for detail to see how the drawing differs from the photo. I'd take a photo now, but the light won't be any good till it's daylight. The party is at one, and I have to frame it, so I'll need input fairly quickly. That's what comes of waiting till the eleventh hour!

I honestly don't know why the horses are rejecting that hay but I threw some to the goats and Obie wouldn't eat it either. The goat sniffed it thoroughly and then did not eat a bite of it.

I got some hay from a different bale, the horses are eating it just fine. Same batch of hay but different bale. The goat ate some of the new bale, too.

I guess I'll just take their word for it that something is wrong with that bale and put it in the compost pile. I can't return it since I bought it from the neighbor. Maybe I'll call her and see if she has ever had that problem before.

I thought goats would eat anything! If the goat refused it, too, there is definitely something wrong with it. I wonder if you'll find other bales in that batch with the same problem. It might be worth it to save the rest of the bale for a while, and if more of that hay has a problem, see if you can find something in both bales that's not in the rest of the hay.

Where did the neighbor get the hay? You might at least want to mention it to the neighbor in case he or she is having problems, too, and is just as confused. It might make your neighbor feel less puzzled if he or she knew you were having the same problem.
