Wuzz, we are keeping all the cold here. -18 with wind chill of -36

I always wanted to move to Tahiti. Less urbanization. Right now, anywhere warm would do the trick.

-3.5 degrees here, going down to -6. I'm with you, Awsum. Hawaii is too populated. Save a seat for me to Tahiti! The sooner the better. This is getting old. Coldest February I can remember here. My creek is frozen from side to side. I'll bet you could skate on it. But, I took pity on my flying freeloaders and fed them again today. They need the fuel. When does that plane for Tahiti leave?

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Mornin!
Well... Bad weather cancelled. I am outside without a jacket.

I am thinking on planting seeds on these

You transplant them with the pot to avoid the shock and it dissolves as the plant grows.

Cool! I think my bro got 150 of those. I'll try the tomato seeds on them.
There is another kind that are squished flat. You add water to them and they swell up to that size. A bit of netting holds it together. You don't have to add dirt to them, which is nice when the outside soil is frozen, and you don't want to buy potting soil. Amazon.com : Jiffy 7 Peat Pellets 36 MM Seed Starting Plugs, Seeds Starter. Start Plant Seedlings Early (Pack of 50) : Soil And Soil Amendments : Patio, Lawn & Garden Egg cartons are free, and do the same thing as the ones you had the picture of.

I'm late to the party, but welcome Shawn. I like those brooms -- and the painting, too. You are very creative. I hope to hear lots about your animals, especially the horse.
Ah, the horse. Durfria is a 32 year old curmudgeon of a mare. The only person she ever developed a relationship with is my step-daughter. Even though 'Fria is small in stature, she was big under the saddle and, along with stepdot, won several competion trail riding awards.

'Fria is the only horse left now. We used to have 9. There was Nugget: a rescued Morgan mare... rock solid. She was my first. I sure miss her and I'm tearing up as i write this. She was sold to a kid's ranch and I prefer to think she's still there. There was Nefisa: a high-strung grand-daughter of 'Fria. Bred and trained for racing, she was fast. She was also skittish. She threw me once... broke my durnfooled leg. George was never really ours, but he lived in our stables long enough and we rode him often enough. He was, if memory serves, a painted painted quarter horse gelding. Trained for barrel racing he was fast and controlled. My son was on George when George threw a shoe. It sppoked him and he took of. My son was hanging on for dear life. When we caught him, my son pipes up "That was fun! Can I do it again?" There was Aleia: Aleia belonged to my wife, and my wife belonged to Aleia. Never a better team existed. Although my wife rode dressage, and Aleia was good at it, they were happiest when cut loose and riding to beat the wind! Jahim was a goof: he was half brother to Nefisa, but where Nefisa was a bay, Jahim was a speckled gray. Where Nefisa was skittish, Jahim was smart... too smart. We had to take in his big rubber feed pans after every meal, or he'd pick them up and throw them like a frisbee. Finally, the was Ghoti who we also called Fish or Ghost. Also an Arabian, Fish was a barrel bellied, rock solid goofball. He was easy enough to ride, but had a lot of... ahem... personality.

Jiffy Pots are what I use too. I started an awful lot of seedlings in those things and put them out in a little portable greenhouse when it warmed up. They make it soooo easy!

That's a lot of horseflesh! I don't know much of anything about horses. Wild animals are my focus. But, I can tell already that you're a good storyteller. :)

Ya found me out. When not making brooms, I'm a storyteller with 2 personas. There's Obadiah T. Fassbinder, the traveling medicine show salesman and Schmitty, the (award winning) cowboy poet...

Sitting down, facing forward.
My trackball replacement is on hold. I made a mistake when I built my desktop machine and only put a 50gig boot drive in it. Win7, with all of its bloat, and some software that only wants to install to the boot drive, like the video drivers and surveillance software, have eaten the whole drive up. There's only about 50megs of free space and updates won't install as a result. I just ordered an 250gig SSD drive. It's supposed to come with software to allow cloning without a re-install but I'm going to get everything together, just in case. It used to be that 50gigs was plenty for the OS and applications, now it isn't even close to enough. I'll be busy next week, on my knees, worshipping the silicon god.

OK, I've caught up.

Thanks for telling me about your horses, Shawn. I have an old girl, too, though she's 24, not as old as yours. My horse, Penny, lives with another mare who sounds like Jahim. Her name is Jasmine, and you'll probably hear stories about her from time to time.

Rave, that furniture you built is excellent! You are so clever!

I returned from Philadelphia today. They were just putting the finishing touches on the bathroom, and it looks great. Now I have to put stuff back. I have some of it put away already, but there's more to go, and Bill left a mountain of laundry, which I did most of this afternoon. I haven't even opened the mail waiting for me.

Of course, I had to get my computer back online first! My brother put more memory in and then upgraded the operating system. Now it's Yosemite, and before I even knew what it was called, when I saw the picture of Half Dome on the screen, I said, "Yosemite!" and my brother said, "Yes, that's what it's called." I'm going to have to download new games, since my old ones don't work with the new OS. Every time this happens, I mourn my old games. But I'll find new ones.

When I got to Philly, of course it was warmer than here, and though they were all saying how cold it was, I felt like it was a bit of a reprieve. Then it got colder and very windy, and we had about 3" of snow one day, but I think we got more up here, and when it was cold there and I checked the temperature here, it was much colder, so I did escape from the worst of it.

I wanted to go see Penny today, but there was so much to do at home that I hardly knew what needed doing first, and I'll try to get to Penny tomorrow. The farrier is coming to trim her hooves on Sunday morning, anyway.

Hmm - I'm thinking more along the lines of Schmitty. Just sayin'. :)

Oh my. I don't envy you. I hate messin' with that stuff. My sympathies for having to get down on your knees to worship the silicon god. Personally, I'm banking on the Tahitian gods right now. Maybe they'll choose to have some mercy. We're under a Winter Storm Warning here. I'm waiting to see what develops. It's not the popular sentiment, but I'm really hoping seeing my forest blanketed with pristine snow ... animal tracks running all through it. Nothing but trees and snow as far as the eye can see. Maybe it'll be warm enough to walk through it to see just where those tracks go. And ... pick up a few SD cards from my Trail Cams.

Welcome home, Sandy! Bummer about losing your games. :( I'm so glad that your bathroom is as you'd hoped. It's hard to slip back in gently when you've been away from home, but try to take it easy on yourself. When I was touring with my paintings, sometimes I'd be away from home for two weeks at a time. I learned that "stuff" can wait a bit for me to get my sea legs back.

Great organizer, Raven.

Oh boy, a horse guy. I'll have to post photos of my little horsies.

I enjoyed your horse stories, Shawn.

My little guys like to play "poking you" every morning. They also like to play tugowar with their food dish.

Hey, Shawn, have you been to those cowboy poetry events like they have here in Nevada?

So, did you have fun while you were away, SandySu?

Celtic, Q, Zero, Awsum, Jer, Raven, Terry and even you southerners Wuzz and Uncle, I hope you warm up soon.

Trit, those pots are handy. When you plant into the garden, make sure rip the top edge of the pot off so that the exposed edge doesn't suck the moisture out of the soil in the pot.
