Morning Volties. Awsum, roses normally go dormant in the winter and don't freeze down here. We had a winter with summer right up to the first freeze and killing frost. Caught my roses in full bloom and I lost 36 bushes in one night. Not even the root stock came back. I never replace them much to many women's dismay. I used to keep fresh roses on the table all the time and take some to the girls at work, sick people and anybody that looked like they needed a rose.

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

Hubby is leaving tomorrow morning to get the puppy. Cross your fingers that the weather will cooperate. We have some fast moving storms coming through the area although it is above freezing this morning. Looks like we will be picking up an extra puppy so that some people from Carmel can then pick their puppy up from us. I told them to kick in $100 towards gas. Weather willing they will pick their puppy up from us on Tuesday morning.

That is one of the big draw backs to a warm winter. More than likely there will still be some days of below freezing and some plants are going to be very unhappy.

Thanks, Celti. I know your dream puppy is out there. I just hope you don't have to drive 8 hours to pick him up.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

I talked to the vet's office who said that the puppy shots the breeder gives don't count and they want to start all over after waiting 4 weeks after the puppy shots were given. We gave Penny and Rusty all their shots ourselves so we will probably just do that. The new goober can be neutered at 8 months or when he starts lifting a leg to pee. Whichever happens first.

Rusty needs to go in to get his bloodwork and a vet check to stay on his Previcox. I told her next month since Hubby is getting his teeth worked on this month.

Looks cold and wet, close to snowing. Hubby says it was snowing towards Dayton and Mound House. 33 degrees out and was windy overnight.

The water cooperative meeting was productive.
We gave our husky his shots too, except for rabies vaccination we got that done at the vet. Hubby is really good at giving the shots, Zeus did not even make a peep or even acknowledge he even knew he was getting them.

Way cheaper than the vet to do them yourself.

A quick (I hope -- I have to get to sleep sometime tonight) update on tutoring the kids.

The youngest boy: I met with his teacher last week, and she shared some materials they are using in class. He seems to really love the idea of having me use them, too. He says, "My teacher taught me that!"

Next, his sister: I gave her a bunch of materials to start crocheting for Christmas and spent a few days of teaching her. She was very diligent about practicing and now has a good handle on it. She is making a scarf from the yarn I bought her, and she is so diligent that her mom has said she can't crochet on weekdays, when she needs to spend time on homework and music practice.
She still thought maybe she could look up stuff on the Internet about crocheting, if not actually doing it, but I advised her to ask her mom before she did. Did I create a monster? I think it's wonderful for a child to have a driving passion like that.

Her older brother is lagging, as usual, but he seems interested in "death and destruction -- and don't forget the chaos." That's from a punk rock song. Anyway, from our conversations, I sensed he would love to read about the Inquisition, with all its torture, etc. He read it today, and though there were lots of words (including Christian) that he didn't know, he was interested and struggled through the reading. He has lots of new vocabulary words now! When I explained the word "notorious," he said he thought he remembered that word from when he read about Hitler. Maybe his interest in this stuff is sort of unhealthy, but it's part of history, and at least he wants to learn about it.

The new girl is hovering on 3rd grade reading. She's in 3rd grade now, so she's almost up to grade level. She is a hard worker, though she is easily distracted. She will go far if she can learn to focus.

Her older brother, who is 12, I just started tutoring. He seems to be up to speed on most things, but he needs to improve reading aloud. He also wrote something for me, and it was well organized and fairly literate, but I found things he needs to be more aware of. I only tutor him once a week, on Sat. But when I realized that it's MLK Day on Monday, I want him to read the "I Have a Dream" speech, so I guess that'll be after the fact. Today, we read some really technical stuff about sand being used for fuel.

It was a pretty busy day, even though Sat. starts a bit earlier than the other days. I noticed it was actually still light when I walked from my car to my last student, though it was still dark when I left. The days are getting longer! Yay!

moanin', Voltaticalytes.

Unfortunately for Bo when he eats beef it doesn't agree with him. Maybe it's the enzymes that beef has, beats me, but giving him even a taste can lead to a trip to the vet to get him back to "regular". It's a bummer for us not to be able to let him have some. He does fine with pork, poultry and fish, but beef makes a wreck out of his tummy. He does get chicken, every day, and we share dinner with him when it's stuff he can handle. We can tell when he really likes his dinner, he runs around the house barking out/at the doors and windows warning off all the "bad guys".

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
I have to get some pictures of Kanella (cinammon). A dog we found crying on a river next to my uncle's house. Someone left it there to die.
We took it home and my brother kept it here is a pic when we found her http://i.imgur.com/BI6cP9v.jpg
She's grown up now.

Cinnamon is so cute, Trit.

SandySu - Maybe you could steer the kid to less gory topics???

Hubby just left for the long drive to Oregon to pick up our puppy. Puppy pic.

He'll be back late tomorrow.

After looking at a map, we decided that the other puppy peeps could meet the guys outside of Sacramento and get their puppy on the way home. They are going to meet at a Starbucks on Monday. The guys have to come back over Donner pass in the dark which I am not happy about but I am sure they will be fine.

My girl friend is having me over for Papa Murpheys Pizza for dinner. Nice!

Bo does OK with lamb, but we rarely have lamb, so it doesn't seem fat related. With him, besides the fan, we need a squeegee to clean up after him. No fun at all with his size!

Tell Hubby to take extra food for the trip over the Donner Pass :)

Tritium, the dog looks cute as a pup. How about a grown up picture?

Of course, history tells us that the Donner Party ate Jack the Dog before turning to cannibalism. So, I certainly hope Hubby doesn't end up having our puppy for a snack:) We tend to kid around about having to eat the dog when we are out in the desert. We decided that Hawkeye would be way to stringy so Penny would have to be first.
