It was partly cloudy when we sat down to dinner By the time we finished it had become totally overcast. The wind has switched to, basically, east, so the storm is a comin. My guess is that we'll see eight inches to a foot in the yard before it's all done tomorrow. If the rain line never makes it this far inland, all bets are off and a foot or more.

As usual, the weather prognosticators, myself included, got it wrong at least for my little part of the world. There's about an inch of disappearing snow and heavy rain outside. That means the storm is tracking close to the coast bringing in warmer ocean air. The wind is switching around to the north, which could mean more snow since it will get colder, probably, but the storm itself will probably end in a few hours.
The plow has gone by four times, so far. Don't ask me what they're actually plowing because the road is clear and there's hardy any traffic out there today. Just one car in the last hour when we'd normally have twenty, thirty or so. Guess everyone has the day off due to the storm that isn't, at least isn't here.

I just went outside and cleaned off the steps, walk and deck. I should have worn scuba gear! Shoveling water, that's what shoveling the little it of snow that was left, is hard work. That stuff is heavy when the shovel manages to stay full!

We are having beautiful weather which means I am doing yard clean up. Raking and burning. Yes, it is a lot of work. Between yard clean up and riding a horse on Sunday, I am pretty much sore all over.

The weather this past winter has been stupid.... I have the solution!

It's bright and sunny, but with a biting wind and temps below 30. The snow/sleet from yesterday is frozen so hard that Mrs. Awsum's car didn't sink through it in the driveway. The only way I can sink in is if I purposely "heel-toe" when walking. Even Leo doesn't sink in! He does like chasing chinks of it around though, and eating it, too. We may get more snow this afternoon, joy, joy.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to take Leo for a ride, later. The bank and post orifice are on my list today and the bank gives him treats (old fashioned bank where you actually walk in and interact with the teller). He can be a "handful" when going there, and it is a little icy out, so I'm not sure I want the hassle.

That is the same reason my horses are in their pens today. When it gets windy, they can be a handful and I don't want the hassle. I threw them some extra hay so they don't seem to mind not going out

No, Leo can be a handful even with no wind, and he's about 100 pounds now and pretty strong, so when he wants to go somewhere I don't want him to it can get to be work. He has tons of toys, but the thing he seems to like most is being chased with an empty box. Go figure.

Haven't you gotten a harness that goes around the chest as well as around the neck? I had difficulty walking our lab-type dogs, and it seems like those newer-type harnesses give more control, as well as being more humane.
We had a harness for him when he was about 50 pounds and it didn't help at all. The best one we had also had a handle, right on the back, which made it easy to get his front legs off the ground for added control in a safe manner. Now, with his weight, that's a little tough for me and impossible for Mrs. Awsum. We also have a harness called "Gentle Leader" that actually goes over his snout, kind of like a bridle without a bit, but that's a major problem to get him used to wearing.
He's completed puppy kindergarten and basic obedience but we're looking for another trainer for individual training. The lead trainer at basic obedience seemed to be afraid of him, and while he did give a good presentation, there was too much lacking. After our experiences, I wouldn't recommend group classes for obedience training, especially for dominant breeds.

We've had a return of January/February for the last few days, but it's warming up today and tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 70's. At east it made it above freezing yesterday and today we're in the low 05's but the breeze makes it feel cooler.
Nothing much new going on here. A shipment from China, Amazon, seems to have sunk at sea or something and another from Russia, FleaBay, seems to be stuck in Customs in NY, been there since the 10th.
We contacted a local trainer for Leo, two weeks ago. He was going to call back, and it only took four tries to actually get to talk with him. He was, supposedly, calling us back this week to arrange an evaluation but we haven't heard from him at all despite multiple calls. Makes me wonder what his business model is, assuming he has one.
So, we're going to call the trainer back that recommended him to us. She's about an hour away but has a good reputation. Leo is, probably, well over 100 pounds now so getting further training for him is getting to be really important. He's fine when I work with him, and I work with him two or three times a day, but outside he can be handful to say the least.
