We've had a return of January/February for the last few days, but it's warming up today and tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 70's. At east it made it above freezing yesterday and today we're in the low 05's but the breeze makes it feel cooler.

Nothing much new going on here. A shipment from China, Amazon, seems to have sunk at sea or something and another from Russia, FleaBay, seems to be stuck in Customs in NY, been there since the 10th.

We contacted a local trainer for Leo, two weeks ago. He was going to call back, and it only took four tries to actually get to talk with him. He was, supposedly, calling us back this week to arrange an evaluation but we haven't heard from him at all despite multiple calls. Makes me wonder what his business model is, assuming he has one.

So, we're going to call the trainer back that recommended him to us. She's about an hour away but has a good reputation. Leo is, probably, well over 100 pounds now so getting further training for him is getting to be really important. He's fine when I work with him, and I work with him two or three times a day, but outside he can be handful to say the least.

Leo is such a big beautiful boy I love big dogs I really miss my Ram. I hope you get into a trainer soon. It is a bummer that the guy did not call back. It's frustrating when a supposedly good business/person let's you down and disappoints.

Good plan with Leo. Yes, driving an hour seems like a lot although we have to drive an hour to do almost anything

The weather was great on Thursday but has deteriorated again yesterday. Today should be a bit cloudy but hopefully not too bad.

Still working with Tanka. We are building up to actually getting on the little booger. He's a good boy. Kind of a funny guy. He doesn't take treats from other people easily, likes playing with the big ball in the round pen, is a very hesitant horse but not overly spooky. He comes over to the trainer and I after a session in slow motion, one step at a time. Makes me laugh.

It's nice an warm, but cloudy, today. Tomorrow will be a definite "inside day" 'cause it's supposed to drizzle and be cooler. Oh well, it is supposed to be Spring time.

We have a sliding door in the dining room that leads out to the deck. Bo was very good about the screen door and always stopped to wait for it to be opened. He did manage to push a corner out a little one day when he was excited over something, but no big deal. A few weeks ago it was nice and we were out on the deck with Leo and the screen door was closed. Something happened, like we mentioned treats or food, and he charged right through it. So much for the nice screen door.

I decided to try one of those magnetic replacement screens. Getting a true size for them is a little tough. They all describe them as fitting "up to 36" doors" for example and don't give the actual measurements. Anyhow, I asked questions and ordered one. Since it's warm out today, I put it on. Now Leo is out on the deck and afraid of the new screen door. I even put a treat on the floor, just inside, and he just sits staring t it.

I will say that they are better than nothing but bug proof they aint! I'll also say the magnetic closure, on this one at least, isn't the most reliable way to get it to close. It takes a little shake to get it to seal all the way down.

I'll have to find a hardware store and get the slider screen re-screened and put some kind of grill on it to prevent Leo from running through it again. Although. thinking about it, then he might bend the frame of the screen if I do that

I want to get some screen doors on the new French doors. I am thinking wood doors and some hinges that will allow the screen doors to open against the house when not in use. I am still looking into it.

Leo scared himself with the screen door and now he isn't so sure he wants to try it again

Leo is getting used to the magnetic door. He'll stick his head through, then will go back and walk through. He's not consistent with it, yet, though and needs "assistance" sometimes. We just took him for a weigh in, got to know his weight for heart worm and flea/tick meds, and he's up to 110 pounds already.

The magnetic screen isn't too bad, Lizzie, and pretty inexpensive. As it's hung since Saturday the little gaps in the center have, more or less, disappeared. I think with time and some warmer weather they will go away completely. It came with Velcro that goes around the top and both sides, so they're sealed pretty well.

The weather sucks. Chilly, windy threatening to rain. Of course, that does give me a great excuse not to get anything done.

I do want to get as much raked up and "pre staged" for shredding as I can before it gets here. There's already a pile of branches to run through the chipper end. It's not supposed to get here until late Monday afternoon, so I probably won't get to play with it until Wednesday, more rain on Tuesday.

My adorable Pony Baloney is improving with his magnesium supplement. Twice in the last few days he has been getting scratches and enjoying it!

I've been busy so I haven't posted much. The chipper/shredder works like a dream. It's still work but it's a lot less work than before and now I have oodles and oodles of fine mulch and chips. I've got about two hours on the engine, so far, and have produced at least a cubic yard of mulch. The discharge is low down, on the front, no chute like the big chippers. For my first test, the other day, I used it right where I wanted the mulch to go. Today I was working in the front so I had to do something different.

A lot of people park it on a tarp, then rake and pick up the mulch. I have a plastic "mud" container that's actually meant for mixing cement in. I park the chipper with the front end in the container then chip until it's full. Then, just move the chipper out, pick up the container and dump that into the trailer on the lawn tractor. The loads of the container fills the trailer and I dump that where I want/need the mulch.

Feeding leaves is a little tricky. Just like us, the chipper has a big mouth and small throat so if I feed them too fast they clog. Other than that it's great. Now I feed the leaves by picking them up with a snow shovel and "clamshell" it with a leaf rake. It does save bending over a lot, but it is still work, just not as much and a short cut compared to raking and piling them up somewhere.

The chipper portion is great, too. I've fed handfuls of branches, it'll take a four inch branch, and they disappear into chips very nicely. There is a lot of vibration to the hands as they're chipped up but it's no big deal with gloves on. Eye protection is a must as well. Surprisingly, it's not as loud as I expected.

We had really windy weather so I straightened out three sheds and organized one side of the long shed into a horse tack area.

I bought Tanka a saddle and a new saddle blanket and got it on him today with some help from my trainer. Yay, Tanka. I love that horse.
