Yep, the little square would be tedious to mess with and a lot to erase. That's why I never tried it. I like this 4 line grid though. I suppose if you were drawing a very large drawing you might want to add a few more lines though. Here is the video that I watched and he showed a tool I hadn't seen before that looks pretty cool. "Accurate Drawing Proportions Video" What I like about it is you can use it to draw a larger drawing from a small photo or print. I found one on ebay. :D

I've been using a similar method as you only with a rule rather than a pencil. The mistake I made was my drawing area didn't match the photo so my measurements were off. I won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for the link. That's interesting. I use a similar method, just with the length of a pencil rather than a compass or proportional divider. I had never heard of a proportional divider, either.

Terry -how's the new pic?

Easterners and Southerners - How much snow are you getting? How are your temps? What is going on out your way?

I just got home, and the thermometer in my car said it was 10 degrees. Still cold. We had some snow the other day, but not too much, maybe an inch. Then it was snowing lightly off and on today. I didn't mention this kind of snow, because it happens so much, it's not news, just a new film on top of the snow already on the ground.

I hadn't either. A lot of the pics I fine to draw are small so I have to blow them up to size and that causes loss of detail. With this tool I won't have to enlarge the photos before I print them. I can't wait to try it.

Tutoring this afternoon had a new twist.

The kids had only watched half of a movie and hadn't written reviews. I told them next weekend, they should watch the other half and write reviews. Well, the little girl tried. She wrote, "Did you like the movie? No." I asked her why, and she said some parts were scary. Their mom said they only had time for half because they were playing video games.

First, we did the Mobius strip. I thought the boy would be most interested, but no, he bored of it quickly, and the girl was fascinated. We did some variations on the basic single twist and drawing a line, like a double twist, which doesn't draw on both sides of the paper. Not as exciting to me. But what was neat was when you cut the strip down the center, it makes a larger loop. When you cut it a 3rd of the way in instead of down the center, it makes 2 loops, one big and one small, linked. I thought that was neat. I think the girl wasn't so interested in the idea behind it as she was with cutting and taping stuff -- arts and crafts instead of reading. She even read the instructions in order to find out what to do next. I had thought the boy would read the instructions aloud for us all, but he left it to his sister.

The kids were very rambunctious today, so it wasn't a good day for hard work. This evening, the boy told his story he's been practicing to all the parents and kids of his class. Their mother asked me if I would go see them. She said the kids were asking for me to go. Actually, skeptic that I am, I think she wanted me to take them so she or her husband didn't have to leave work and go. They work hard and I don't think they spend as much time with the kids as parents should. But then they hire me and a math tutor to help them with school work, and if the kids never learn to make a snowman, I guess they figure that's not important.

So, anyway, after the Mobius strip making, the kids wanted to write stories. The little girl instigated it. She tried in a few simple sentences to tell how last summer, she and her brother went to Disney World, while her little brother, who's about 3, went to China with his grandparents. Yes, the kids' parents actually took a vacation and went on a cruise ship from NYC to Florida, where they visited Disney World. I think this was the biggest event in the kids' lives. Going to China, which we might think was a bigger adventure, pales in comparison in their eyes.

So after the story writing and a Mad Libs, we went to the restaurant for dinner, and then off to school. First, all of us sat in the cafeteria, which had folding chairs set up and a stage at one end. But the boy said they'd be telling the stories in their classrooms. Apparently, there's more than one 3rd grade class. I always went to school where each grade was one unit, not separate classes.

One thing that impressed me as I looked around the room where everyone assembled was what a United Nations of people were there. Many families were speaking some foreign language to their kids. There were a lot of Orientals, maybe not all Chinese. It's hard for me to tell, though some did look more Indian or South Pacific, I think. I'm not good at looking at someone and telling their nationality. One interesting family I wish I knew their nationality, because to me, the dad looked Native American, but the mother and kids looked more South Pacific, maybe Hawaiian or something. Plain old European white people were in the minority, and only blacks, of which there were only a few families, were less represented. What an interesting cultural mix school must be.

Each child in the boy's class told a story, some better than others. I was heartened to see that a few kids didn't speak English as clearly or well as "my" boy. I was picturing him the only one and out of place in school, but he's not. He's pretty average, from what I could see.

The little girl seemed very entertained by the stories, and after that, we returned to the cafeteria for some snacks the parents had brought. In fact, the kids' mom had given me some boxes of cookies to contribute.

As we drove back to the restaurant, the little girl asked what time it was, and when she heard it was after 8, she said, "Oh no! I haven't done my homework!" I said if she explained where she was that evening, maybe her teacher would forgive her.

Good neight, everyone. Here's a photo I think some of you may have seen before, but it was a while ago, so here it is again for the newbies.

I really love that picture,Sandy. So I hope you don't mind if I save it to my computer. I want to add it to my nature collection. :)...

As a side note what site do y'all use to upload larger photo? and exactly how do you do that? I know that it has the option to upload from a website but how?...
I'm pretty iffy about putting my info out there but am really tired of uploading tiny pics where ya can't see anything. Thank y'all in advance.:p

From A Post I made in the first: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...742-chit-chat-voltville-921.html#post11741520 Thread

    Done On-line at "LunaPic | Free Online Photo Editor" . . .

(EDIT: "You can even open this Online site from your Photobucket Account to download from/upload to "Your" Photobucket account - Which IMO, given the need to protect "YOUR" Artwork, I think should and would be a necessity too . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;-) )

With "LunaPic" - "You" can also do so many other things "like" add text too, especially to point out the where Adjustments/Edits need to be made . . . :) AND - Even to Resize or "Scale" images for post here . . . SO - Many different options and things "You" can do to Photos/Images . . . Matter of fact, "You" can even "Blend" or "Graditant" 2 Images to see what matches or still needs to be done (Well - most of the time if you resize the 2 imaes correctly . . . ) too . . .REALLY - Should check "LunaPic" out - Just Sayin' . . . ;-)

Everyone is welcome to use my photos however they please. I do ask, though, that if you post them on the Internet for others to see, that you give me a photo credit. For instance, someone once asked if he could use one of my photos to illustrate an entry in his blog.

I use Photobucket. Back when I first wanted to post a photo here, someone suggested it, so that's how I do it. I forget now just what I did to join Photobucket, but I followed instructions, and if I can do it, so can you. I don't use features Photobucket offers like Uncle says that other site has. I'm not sure how they compare. I know they do offer some editing features. I guess my photos are fairly public on Photobucket, but I'm not really worried, since if someone uses one, I don't really care. Most of my pictures aren't very personal, just scenes from around here or wherever I happen to travel. I'm probably less worried about privacy than a lot of people. After all, once you post them here, I think anyone could see them and take them, anyway.

I have other photos in my computer that I haven't uploaded to Photobucket. I guess if you think a photo is too private, keep it in your computer. The photos I haven't uploaded are probably no more private than the ones you see, but they aren't as good, not worth showing. Still, I keep them. Every once in a while, they illustrate a point or I do want to put them here, and then I still have them.

Here's something one of my Facebook friends posted. Do grammatical errors people always make bother you? Annoying Grammatical Mistakes - Business Insider

Another one they didn't mention specifically is how people always use an improper apostrophe on their family name signs outside their house: The Smith's (it should be The Smiths or The Smiths'). Most likely, there's more than one person living at that house, and even if it's a single person, he/she is probably not called The Smith.

I think it depends on the setting, to a certain extent. You wouldn't correct your friends grammar. However, if you are posting on a topic to show how smart and erudite you are... or a serious topic....or a topic where you are trying to sway opinion...then one should consider that posting a complete train wreck of the English language is not appropriate.

I agree. When I go to a website for info, if there are lots of grammatical errors or misspellings, I tend to disregard whatever the poster had to say. I respect good English, and it definitely sways my perception of what a person is saying. Still, you'd think people would learn these fairly simple things in school. What do they learn in English class?

Thanks for telling everyone. I'd already taken advantage of that coupon though. There are some SI eliquids that I just can't live without and was waiting for a Valentine's Day coupon. :D

Nowadays, when school closes due to snow or extreme cold, apparently they send a message to all the parents. Back in my day, we just listened to the radio to hear which schools might be closed on snowy days. So this school principal decided to get creative with the message. Cute!

Ohmygosh! This is great. I sent it to my BF because he is the Transportation Director for the public schools in his county. He's the one that decides whether or not the schools are closed or delayed, and will get a big kick outta this. Thanks!!

I got Roadie about 3 years after I got Lucky. Her official name was Middle-of-the road Dog. Because there is that song that you find the darndest things in the middle of the road. The neighbor almost hit her in the middle of the road.

Well, it was love at first sight. I flipped over in my arms to rub her tummy, our eyes met,...and she was mine.

Roadie was about as smart as the come. I was feeding Lucky a little people food in his bowl. I thought he was a bit thin. Not Roadie. She didn't need the extra calories. I had a long narrow kitchen. Lucky would eat at the far end and Roadie would eat in the dining room. One day, Roadie left her food bowl without taking a single bite. That got my attention so I watched:)

Roadie went the 12 feet to Lucky's bowl and looked hard. She then went back to her bowl and gave it a hard look. Back to Lucky's bowl. I could see the wheels turning but...what was she up to? Back to her bowl for a look. Back again to Lucky's bowl. Finally, she returned to her bowl, gave it a good hard look and then turned to me "You fiend" she says with her eyes, "you've been giving Lucky the good food all along and I am not getting any of it."

Roadie actually played a trick on the Hawkeye, English setter. One day, during doggie dinner time, she ran to the front door, barked like "this is an emergency, someone is at the door". Hawkeye, ran to the door and started barking his fool head off. Woof, woof. I then saw Roadie slink around the couch, into the kitchen and start eating his Hawkeye's dinner. The funniest part is that she did it very quietly so that no one could hear her chew the dog nuggets. How smart is that?

Lizzie - I loved the stories of Lucky and Roadie. I've had really smart dogs and equally dumb dogs, but the dumb ones manage to capture our hearts just as effectively as the smart ones. It's so interesting to watch those gears turning inside their doggie brains. Roadie's trick on Hawkeye was excellent!

It's good morning here but afternoon where you are. We got some snow last night. Nothing to write home about though. 1" maybe and it's mostly gone now. Temps should get back to normal this week thankfully. Every time my furnace comes on the power meter spins like a top and I see $$. :(

I know exactly what you're saying about the furnace. That's how I feel nowadays, so I can relate. :(

No, I couldn't redo the head because I had already used charcoal on the dark spots and that won't erase completely. I knew there was something wrong but I couldn't figure out what it was so I started detailing. Then I realized the proportions were wrong. Like you said...live and learn. I learned a lot from this.

I subscribed to an artists Youtube channel and I got an email this morning saying he had a new vid out. It was called "Getting proportions down accurately". What a coincidence and just what I needed. Now the redo is coming along nicely. :)

Wellll, that was convenient timing. Hope that the pup comes together well. :)

    Good night, all. More flowers.

Absolutely beautiful! Snagged it for a jigsaw puzzle. :D

I tried a grid once, but it was lots of little squares. I got a very accurate drawing, but it sure was tedious. What I do now is to print out the picture I want to draw, same size as I draw it, and carefully measure the distances between things. I use my pencil to do it. I hold it sort of sideways, and the point of the pencil is one spot, and where I'm holding it is the other. I hold it up to the printout and get the distance, then hold the pencil on the drawing paper and put my hand where some part already drawn is, and make a dot with the pencil point where the other spot should be. For instance, how far the eye is down from the ear, then how far in it is from the jawbone, etc. I block in the basics like this very lightly before anything else. When it seems right, then I start filling it in. Still, as you know, sometimes an eye or nostril is not quite where it should be, and with pastels, I can erase enough to correct it. Your grid would help with blocking in major items, but for details, you might want to try my method.

I do the same thing basically. When drawing an animal, I study the proportions of that species in several photographs, and measure everything out. For example: the distances between the top of the eye to the top of the head and the bottom of the eye to the end of the nose. Eye placement and size is crucial and varies so much from species to species. Knowing that the back should be three lengths of the head, or some similar ratio is priceless. I don't do grids though.

Good neight, everyone. Here's a photo I think some of you may have seen before, but it was a while ago, so here it is again for the newbies.

Another beauty! And ... also snagged. :p

I've been uploading to photobucket, Celt.

You can upload from your computer but you have to de pixel and/or crop until you get your photo below 300 megabytes and that is a pain in the .....

    I use Photobucket too.

    Hiya Voltville!

I'm back and feeling reasonably sociable again. It's been brutally cold here, (this morning it was -14 when I woke up) and I feel a great deal like Cinderella. I have non-stop fire tending duties to keep the furnace from kicking on. If I saved every splinter that I've pulled, I'd have enough kindling for a week. Not really, but you get my drift. I have a new infrared heater for my bedroom and another for my bathroom. Then there's a borrowed one in my kitchen and a "floater" for wherever it's needed. The young folks living downstairs have their own. I'm aware that my electric bill will go up, but I'm thinking that it won't be anything like the propane bills that I've gotten lately. :grr:

I have my own website so I upload my photos to my providers server then paste the URL in the pic box. Not the easiest or cheapest way to go but since I'm paying for it I might as well use it.

What's even worse is people don't proof read their posts before submitting and auto-correct on tablets etc can be rather annoying trying to figure out what they meant. I proof read my posts but I always seem to miss something but spot it immediately when I see it quoted.
