I got so busy talking about books, I never did tell you anything about tutoring, but nothing unusual happened today. The kids read some, did a word search, and a Mad Libs.

Then I went grocery shopping and bought a lot of stuff. Getting everything into my freezer was a challenge. I have a bag of bagels that'll thaw, so I'll be eating bagels like mad for the next few days. Other than the bagels, everything is packed into my freezer as tight as it'll go. We're supposed to get a snowstorm, so I'm glad I did the shopping before it, so I don't have to either go out in bad weather or do without a lot of food. I wouldn't starve. There are always odds and ends to eat here, but we needed fresh fruit and stuff like that.

Well I guess that means you were having a good time. :)

Glad you got your freeze stocked.

Now that celtic is all set to post pic's like crazy, I'm going to watch a movie. I'll probably be back later. Have a good night all.

Oh, I won another contest tonight. 50mls of juice. :toast:

    Good morning peeps.

My dentist called and said I have a tooth cleaning today. I don't really like this dentist office so I will decline any x-rays. I'll save those for when I find a new dentist.

I'm supposed to go see my neighbor today. I'll have to call her and see if she is available.

The wind was pretty good yesterday.

Hubby accidentally scared Willie with a flashlight and she slept on the east side of the house in hiding all night. Hope she is okay and still here when the sun comes up. Poor dog is pretty easy to frighten. We shall have to work on that.

It is a toasty 38 degrees outside.

Love Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowatt. Read Flowers for Algernon. Good book. Pretty sure I read On the Beach when I was young.

Smoky the Cowhorse was probably one of my all time favorite horse books:) By Will James.

    Great photos, Celt.

Hope you guys back East are surviving the cold and snow and ice. Of course, you aren't even on ECF right now if your power is out. Poor little things.

Smoky was one of my favorites, too. Recently, I read it again. I ordered an old copy with the color plates illustrated by the author, Will James. The book is sort of battered, but I wanted the color illustrations, which new copies don't have.

If you liked that book, one I also liked with a western theme was The Virginian (Enriched Classics): Owen Wister: 9780743436533: Amazon.com: Books (which, Terry, I see is on Kindle, too). It wasn't specifically about horses, but of course, they figured in the story. Other classic western horse stories I enjoyed are My Friend Flicka: Mary O'Hara: 9780061374630: Amazon.com: Books and its sequels Thunderhead: Mary O'Hara: 9780060809034: Amazon.com: Books and Green Grass of Wyoming: Mary O'Hara: 9780397000111: Amazon.com: Books which are just as good as the first book, not something that always can be said about sequels.

If you're interested in nonfiction, a really informative book about the wild horses of the American West is The Mustangs: J. Frank Dobie, Dayton O. Hyde: 9780803266506: Amazon.com: Books

A classic sci-fi is The Time Machine (Dover Thrift Editions): H. G. Wells: 9780486284729: Amazon.com: Books It's a good read.

For another early version of time travel, read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (Dover Thrift Editions): Mark Twain: 9780486415918: Amazon.com: Books which may not be classified as sci-fi, but it does involve someone going back in time. Very entertaining.

Probably my favorite short story about time travel is A Sound of Thunder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia by Ray Bradbury. The idea in that story has stuck with me all these years since I read it. It was in a paperback collection of Bradbury's short stories, but I don't remember the name of the book now. See if you can find it. There were lots of other good stories in that book, too.

Yep - Uh-oh - I usually stay home if it is going to be snowing:)

Willie is still here. Poor little dog is at the bottom of the pack because she is so willing to cower. Definitely a submissive dog. I'll have to make sure she gets some individual attention.

I think that will do her good. She'll probably always be timid -- it's probably just her nature to be -- but you can inspire some more confidence than she has now. Let her know she's loved and special, and she will give you her heart.

    Sitting down, facing forward.
If you want a good apocalyptic novel, try Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournell. From a scientific aspect it is very accurate with the descriptions of the results of the root of the catastrophe. I read "On the Beach" in 7th or 8th grade and when I put the book down I had to mentally bring myself back to the "here and now" reality. The movie was good, but the novel was very intense, at least for me.

Robert Heinlein, "Stranger in a Strange Land" has a large list of great sci-fi and one of my favorites is "Time Enough fro Love". Keep in mind "Stranger" was one of Charles Mansons incentives...no telling how a twisted mind can take things.

We had about three inches of snow Sunday night that I cleaned up, just in case we got more. The temperatures have been below freezing all week so it didn't melt much which made it good thing I cleaned out the driveway. There was about a foot more on the ground this morning when I got up and it's been switching from snow to sleet to rain and back and forth all morning. Right now there's a lull, but it's supposed to snow again late this afternoon and into the wee, small, hours of the morning. I can't decide when I should start cleaning it all up again. Then we're supposed to get another clipper system on Saturday. I'm sick of snow, cold and winter!

On the up side, Mrs. Awsum has a five day mini vacation, two days for the storm, two days for the weekend and Monday for President's Day. Sad, but most people don't remember it is celebrate Washington and Lincoln and think it's a shopping sale day.

Lucifer's hammer is added to my wishlist:)

Sounds like you folks are having some pretty nasty weather, Awsum.

mini vacation is always nice. Enjoy!

My Hubby is substituting for one of the shift bosses while he is gone to get married. I am very proud of Hubby but he is working lots of hours to get ready for this interim position:)

The weather is pretty nice here today although they are saying 10 mph winds later.

I've read Heinlein and I am still imperfectly normal meaning I am a non-murderer:)

Celtic...I really enjoyed your photos. Especially that swirly one. :p

Lizzie...Sorry to hear about willie. I hope she gets over being so shy. It's so sad to see a cowering, scared dog.

All that talk last night about books made me have some really strange dreams. I hardly ever dream or at least I don't remember them but I remember these.

Dream 1: I was flying in a jet that had just been repaired but they didn't get all the bugs out of it. The plane was in trouble. I hate flying because I have a fear of falling so that dream ended suddenly. I think the spaceship talk prompted that one.

Dream 2: I had a flat tire and stopped at a gas station to get it fixed only the tire was made of wood and had a crack in it so the mechanic said I had to buy a new one because he wasn't going to put it back on my car. I wanted to kill him. That dream ended suddenly because I'm not a murderer. This one was prompted by our talk about murder mystery books.

Dream 3: This one was erotic but before I got to the good part it ended. Probably because it was going to be kinky. Shades of Gray. 8-o

Maybe today we could talk about Daniel Steele or Harold Robbins so I can have a complete dream with a good and pleasant ending.
