People build in an area for a number of reasons. Once built, people have put their hard earned money, blood, sweat and tears into their property. Leaving means losing.

People also have rather short memories. That area may be mudslide prone but it may not have happened in the 100 years that the town has been there. Catastrophes can happen wherever you live. We could have a major earthquake near here. There is a major fault about 75 miles from here. We won't have flood since we thought about that before buying this property but some of the other people near us could have a flash flood. Let's hope they didn't build in a ravine but picked the high ground instead.

Budweiser commercials are the best! There used to be a documentary on YouTube about how they trained the animals, but recently, I tried to see it again, and it had been taken down. There is something about it, but it's not as good as the one I saw.

I really liked that first one where the guy goes to Chicago to see the horse. That is a tear-jerker!

There's so much talent in the world! Some commercials are really creative. Sometimes I just wonder who makes videos, like the Christopher Walken one, that are so well done.

People who really, really enjoy their jobs and are thus able to do them so danged well.

I have this problem. Whenever I buy something in a plastic container or Bill brings home Chinese food, I carefully wash out the container and put it in my storage cupboard. Yes, they come in handy, but not as many as I collect. I should have 5 or 10, not 50. Y'know? Well, today, I e-mailed the barn owner, and she wants them! I'm overjoyed, as they seem so useful, but collect so fast.

Also, every time Bill or I visit the dentist, we get a toothbrush and dental floss. We use up the floss, but Bill has an electric toothbrush, so the ones he gets from the dentist pile up. Those will go to the barn owner, too.

I hope she's not overwhelmed when she sees how many plastic containers she's getting!

I have this problem too, but I'm not the one saving the containers. It's Dave's fiance. She just cannot control her extreme container fetish. I have a wide cupboard in the kitchen where I keep containers. Now, every time that cupboard door is opened, one or more make a break for freedom. And she doesn't think that she'll need all that much cupboard space in the kitchen when she and Dave get their own home! When they do move out, she's taking her containers with her!

The other day, I got a postcard announcing a town meeting. One of the items on the agenda is what to do about the deer. I wonder what they'll decide.

That usually does not bode well for the deer. 'Course, what can we expect when we exterminate all of the predators? Okay --- off of my soapbox now.

All of your photos were fantastic, of course; but I enjoyed those of the deer the most. Oh!! And the robin too!

There was a massive mudslide in Western Wa today. It wiped out a neighborhood, blocked a main road for a mile and partially blocked a main river so there is concern about flooding downstream. 4 dead, several missing. The Gov has called for a state of emergency. Thankfully I am no where near it. We've had several mudslides caused by all the rain we've had this winter but this is the worst. So many people lost there homes. I feel really bad for all those people there.

Edit: I guess this happened yesterday morning.

Well, I'm back from my weekend which was relatively uneventful. I got a few supplies for a project that I'm working on. BF and I then went to a Chinese buffet. Everything was wonderful with the exception of the mussels. Something not quite right about them. The best part for me was the all-you-can-eat crab legs. They also had frog legs, but I don't want to eat them on general principles. They are becoming too scarce. Frog populations are an ecological barometer, and that barometer is not giving us good news these day. The rest of the weekend was spent in a very un-Lizzie-like manner. We watched a mini marathon of Naked and Afraid, and I nursed the BF through a killer migraine. Exciting stuff, right? That's okay. The weather IS getting better here in spite of the snow that we got this morning. Before long, I'll be able to get out and about and roaming again like a wild wood nymph should. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

I went to see Penny this morning. She had a long session eating grass while I groomed her. It was a little cold, and it's always windy at the farm, but I had dressed for it.

I was disappointed to see that her other blanket, which she was wearing, had a rip in it. I think one of the other horses, probably Sunny, is biting her, and he gets her blanket. She had some bite marks on her, too. One was under where her blanket covers, and I didn't see a rip there. How did he do that? Anyway, since horse blankets are expensive, I'm not happy if it's actually Sunny doing it. And if it's not, why is the new blanket, worn just this winter, getting rips?

I had ordered another blanket, which arrived today. I may not use it till next winter, since it's even heavier than the 2 heaviest she has now. I brought home the old blanket, which had a rip last week, washed the area with a scrub brush, and stuck duct tape on the tear. Let's see how that holds up. Next time I go to the barn, I'll do the same with the other blanket. Those rips are on her ...., so if some water leaks through, I think her .... can bear it better than her shoulder. Maybe it won't rain or snow between now and Thursday, when I'll have a chance to go back. I will be so glad when it warms up enough that I don't have to deal with blankets!

Oh, yes! I took the plastic containers and toothbrushes to the barn. They're gone! There's actually room in my cupboard now. Room to accumulate more, but it'll take a while, and maybe by then the barn owner will want a new supply of plastic containers.

Rave. I sympathize with Dave's girlfriend. I save them, too. Maybe she can find someone to give them away to like I did.

That was scary! I never saw it. What happened to Cujo to make him that way? Did he have rabies?

I think Cujo was bipolar.

It was 17 when I got up. At about 8:30 it rained, and it was only 20 but it actually rained. Now it's snowing and the ground is turning white. We're not supposed to get much, an inch or three, but one never knows, do one? On a brighter note it's supposed to be in the 50's and 60's from Thursday on. Whatever falls tonight can melt on its own!

Yep, he had rabies. It's a very intense movie. One of the better interpretations of Stephen King's work. Most of the movies of his books are dreadful.

I've read some of King's work and seen a few of the movies, but not many. When she was a teenager, my daughter was really into him. She has probably read everything he's written. I read a collection of short stories called The Bachman Books. I think, if I remember correctly, he wrote under that name at first. There was a memorable story about a boy who took a gun to school and shot up his class. Sort of prophetic, when you think about the recent shootings. I also read and saw the movie about the family that winters in a huge house up in the mountains, isolated from everything, and there are ghosts who influence the father, and the boy saves them all. I forget the title, but I bet you can supply it.

As for rabies, it's scary, and animals around here get it. I heard a story of a fox with rabies that bit a little girl and hung on and wouldn't let go. My landlord is the chief of police, and he had to go shoot the fox. Racoons get rabies a lot. It's a wonder there are any still alive. And my cat and my horse get rabies shots because they can get it, too. If a human comes in contact with a rabid animal, they have to get a series of shots that I hear are very painful. If your pet gets signs that indicate rabies, and you didn't get the animal a shot, they are put down.

That was an excellent movie but very sad.

The Green Mile is the only S.K. book I can tolerate. I read "It" and tried reading Cujo and some others but I really couldn't stand them. He repeats himself in every book, alot of the same situations.

I really love how the directors and screenwriters interpret his novels and novellas, though. Green Mile is the closest to the book and it was an awesome performance by Micheal Clarke Duncan(RIP). Did you know that The Green Mile was his first role and when he called his mama and told her he was gonna work with Tom Hanks, they cried? He was one of my favorite actors.

We once saw a raccoon acting like that. Called animal control and they picked it up. Looked very cute, and not at all afraid. Officer said it was probably distemper, and that had been going around. Does not just affect dogs, and of course, a fox is
