Morning All!

Beautiful photos Sandy and Terry.

I sure hope that Penny gets moved away from Sunny. That sounds like a bad situation to me. And expensive.

Yesterday was a bit of a downer for me when I found out that the 30% off Home Depot coupon only applies to online items. None of the lumber that I need can be purchased online. Then I went to tallying up what it would cost for the first stage of construction and got even more shaken. Lumber prices sure have gone up! It's less expensive at Menard's, but it's still too rich for my pocketbook. I'm thinking that my first step will have to be even smaller than I'd hoped. I dunno. I feel like the rug was pulled out from under me.

I never did get to plant seeds yesterday, so I'll do that today. Doing something uplifting is what I need right now.

Terry - I think that you sent your weather my way. :glare: It rained all night last night and that is supposed to continue until Friday afternoon. We're supposed to get many inches of rain during that time period. We're under a Flood Watch beginning tonight. April showers bring May flowers, right?

Have a good day, everyone! :)

Costs for lumber are quite high. We figured it would be around $1000 to build a two stall shed. Ouch!!!!

I am very pleased to hear how well your wrist is doing, Raven:) Yay!

Great photos, Casey!

OK who is using what kind of tablet and how do you like it. I mean a tablet, not an Ereader. My Vizio is now sleeping with the fishes. Battery won't charge and it won't even boot when plugged into a charger, and yes I tried two different chargers and cables. I hate Android, hate Win8 even more and can't even decide if it's worth replacing something that runs an OS with a cute little name like "fluffer nutter". For those of you not aware, Android, after version 2.x or so, does not support Adobe Flash and vice versa, which kind of kills a lot of embedded video and animations.

Well, I guess I can't be of any help to ya. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy Tab. 2 running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. But - I love it.

It amazes how high the lumber prices have gone. $1000 for a two stall shed!

Thanks about the wrist. :) I'm unbelievably happy with it and can completely understand why folks do this as soon as the shot wears off. Hopefully, I can find a way to get it fixed if it flares up again rather than mask the symptoms.

I guess it depends on what they injected, but with horses, it's not masking the symptoms, since they inject hyaluronic acid into the joint. HA is something in joints naturally that lubricates them, and if the joints dry out and need more, injecting it is a way to add more. The only other way to maybe add stuff the joints need is from neutraceuticals like the glucosamine and chondroitin you're taking. There are some other supplements that are supposed to help, too, if you want to hit it with both barrels. I think ASU is the latest. That's something in avocadoes. MSM is another popular joint supplement. I heard something about silica, too. Yucca and perna mussel are 2 others, but I think they aren't very effective. This is stuff they give horses, but I'm pretty sure it works the same in humans. Two popular joint injections are Cosequin and Legend (I think it's called). You could see what these consist of and compare it to whatever your doctor shot into your joint. I only know about this from the horse standpoint, but it's well-discussed and documented and I've read a lot about it. It's mainly for arthritis. That can form when a horse overuses a certain joint. Dressage horses often have trouble with their hocks and get injections there. That's because they have to bend their hocks a lot to shift their weight back to the rear and lift the front end more than many other horses do. Most horses carry more weight on their front end, which is fine for a wild horse, but it stresses the front legs when you add the weight of a rider. That's why you want to shift some weight to the rear. That can stress the hocks, though, after doing it for many years. Probably too much info, right?

Hi her.

Crud, my face has swollen up so much I made an appointment for the doctor at 1:15pm. I have to leave in an hour. I tried benadryl. But it is getting bigger. I am pretty sure it is from the buffalo gnats.

Oh, dear! I guess you're allergic. We call them black flies here. Again, many horses are allergic to them, and I've never heard of a good cure. Bug spray is one option, and covering up is the other. They have fly sheets for horses that even cover their belly, which is a common place for them to get sores from black fly bites. It's something in the fly's saliva that causes the reaction.

Feel better soon, Lizzie. It may be time to break out the Deep Woods Off. And I think you can get a fly veil to attach to a hat so they can't get to your face. You may feel silly wearing it, but it's better than the alternative.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Rave, glad your wrist is feeling a lot better and I hope you've slogged through the wonders of modern medical insurance successfully.

Lizzie, hope the swelling goes down. I notice you're using a Venue 8. I was looking at that and kind of like it since it isn't loaded with bloatware and Google sniffing apps can be shut down. Now, if it can be rooted....

Tutoring report.

Today, I started with both kids. In fact, the whole session was with both kids.

We read about beavers. In the car on the way to their house, I asked them if the girl wanted to be challenged, or would she rather have her brother's help? She wanted the latter. I had found something about beavers on the Internet, but still, it was a bit complicated for the girl to read. However, it would be easy for the boy. Well, I expected a few words he might not know. But most of it would be a breeze, not a struggle. So I had him read it and the girl would follow what he read. But it worked out that the girl read the beginning by herself, with the boy following and supplying words she didn't know. If a word came up that both didn't know, then I supplied it. I often didn't have to explain the word, since sometimes they knew the word, just not how to read it. So now they know more about beavers than they did before.

Then I had made up some questions on beavers that they had to answer. They had to answer in complete sentences. They could look back at what they had read if need be. They did this pretty well, though the beaver's tail being like a paddle confused the girl, because she thought the word was pebble. I tried to explain the difference, but sometimes, I think they take in so much info that only some of it gets through.

Then they filled in the blanks, which I made easier, since, especially with the boy, I was overwhelming them. And I let the boy help his sister answer hers.

The girl also read her 2 books from school. The confounding word this time was "thistle." Where do they come up with these? And last time, they had "buffalo," which I promised the kids we'd read about next time. When I went to get info, they had it under bison, so the book that had that in it probably should have used "bison," not buffalo. Well, now they'll learn about why bison is the correct name, even if buffalo is commonly used.

They mentioned a Mad Libs today, but nobody wanted to do it at the end, rather than just end the lesson, so I didn't insist. Still, I'm glad they're getting back to word games instead of mazes.

Yep, much better price, except I don't know what the exchange rate is, or if they accept foreign orders. That is an Aussie company-- they do know how to protect themselves in desert conditions, though.

Dadant's is a beekeeping supply company. Back where I was raised.

I think there must be American companies that sell these. I just picked the first one that showed the kind I meant. If Lizzie wants to get one, I expect she will shop around.

Beautiful boat! Here's another but much older. :) It's one of the tall ships that was in the mock shoot out. You can see one of the cannons at the bottom of the picture. That's my home town in the background.

AND - What people call certain meals during the day does vary from area to area and/or the time of day you were eating, however the order of specifc meals were commonly called:

Breakfast - Brunch - Lunch - Tea - Dinner - Supper

haha for me "supper" was the meal after the bars closed. But then, we always had "breakfast" food then, so yeah, now I'm really confused.

I got invited to "Sunday Dinner" once (Southern Baptists) and showed up at 5pm with wine. Whoops. Bad christian. Didn't know that "Sunday Dinner" was the meal right after church.

Boy, am I late!

Yeah!!! Moving into cooperative mode worked. Good work.

I love my Venue 8 although I have no way to compare to other tablets. It seems like the battery lasts a long time. It came with Google and Internet Explorer on it. Of course, you have to have wireless in your home to use it but you can put it on airplane mode and take it with you.

I love using my tablet for shopping lists, to do lists and I use the calendar that was on the tablet to keep track of my sparse appointments. For the ECF forum, I can use the tablet with Tapatalk [cost of $2.99, if I remember correctly]. The computer is better for replies but it is nice when I am tired to just hang out on the couch to peruse my favorite forum.

I did have a problem with the tablet but Dell fixed it at no charge. It did take about 3 weeks when you figure in shipping times [they sent me a box, I put the tablet in the box and sent it back at no charge]. I have lots of books to read for free and there is a kindle app that lets you find free books.

I have Soduko and Solitaire and Mah Jong solitaire on it. When you are waiting somewhere, like the doctor's offece, then you can read a book or play a game. I like that.

The Shopglider app is great and I got it for free off the app store. You can have lists for different stores. I used to loose my shopping list on a regular basis but now I always have it with me:)
