They need to know the basics, because it is an important part of American culture. Their parents would be devastated if they knew nothing, and ended getting sucked into some weird cult later in their lives. Perhaps the basics could be taught through the Apostles' Creed, which is acceptable to most denominations.

That's a little advanced for them. I'll stick to Bible stories and things like that. I'll search the Net for some sort of simple recounting of what went on at Easter and leading up to it. I should probably teach them about Passover, too.

Maybe the whole of it would be. If you want something brief, I was thinking about the Good Friday and Easter passage. Yeah, the link between Passover and Exodus.

I think we are talking about a whole lesson on religious traditions of the West. It might be best to ask the parents' permission, emphasizing that you are not a religious person and have no intent to convert, but it is one aspect of American culture that they should know about.

 YES - I couldn't agree more . . . IMO - Stories about all religions and having conversations with the children, especially emphasis about the similarities between them (Good Will to All/Taking Care Of Each Other/Respect/etc) and how they effect all cultures (particularly how religion/religious based stories affects western culture - USA - Holidays/Parades/Social-Cultural Beliefs/Politics-Government/Wars/etc) - would be very appropriate for these children, that is as long as the parents will agree too . . . The only caveat I would have is that I also think "You" should mention and explain to the children that the "Bible" stories (as are so many other religious stories) are just that - "Stories" . . .

Personally - I really "LIKED" reading the religious stories and books I did . . . They were Very Informative - of not only the religion/s, but amazingly of the few differences and many more similarities of the many cultures, lifestyles, and belief systems around the World . . . :D

Sundays are for spending with Hubby but he went over to the neighbor's so I thought I would pop in and say hi.

Wiseguy and Nevada have called a truce. They are getting along ever since I put Nevada in the stall for four hours the other day. Wiseguy definitely has a bite mark on his side but he seems fine. Nevada seems fine, as well. I don't think he has come up lame like I was worried about.

The other day, Nevada had one of the food bowls in his mouth and was jabbing it at Wiseguy "Here, bite this." Maybe it spsyched Wiseguy into giving up the fight...that and the bite to his side.

Time to say good night already.

This morning, I went to the barn to meet the farrier and get Penny's hooves trimmed. I removed her blanket because it was supposed to go up to 55 degrees today.

I came home and assembled something about Easter for the kids. Not much detail, but it's a start.

Then I went back to the barn to put Penny's blanket back on because it's going to be cold tonight.

After that, I went to Lodi Point to walk around with my camera, it was such a beautiful day. So here's a picture from there. That's Seneca Lake you see in the background.

Then I came home and put together something about Passover. That's a more lengthy story, but still, it just skims the main points.

I'm not going to get into any detail about the purpose of religion unless the kids ask. So far, I've just said, "This is what some people believe."

Good morning, Peeps.

I'd stick with the Easter bunny, more or less, and pointing out how different cultures believe different things.

Uncle made some good points, IMHO.

Penny will like having her blankie off, I bet.

There is finally peace in my Queendom. The horses are mostly ignoring each other with a few signs of a developing friendship. I need to text Steve and see if he is going to be able to come over tomorrow for Nevada's lesson. It has been a couple of weeks.

I am exhausted and sore and tired but I have a house to clean today. We got a mock up of our sluice box water feature built yesterday. I'll get a photo of it soon. I also have some photos of the new horse pen and shelter that I will put on the forum when I get a chance tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Hang in there, Celt. You have taken on a big job but you can get through this.

Lizzie, please don't overdo and then get sick. You need time to relax, too. You are always so busy you put the rest of us to shame, but there can be too much of a good thing.

I'm glad to see that the horses are getting along better now. They usually work it out, but watching them do it can be scary.

Penny didn't roll yesterday nor the other day when I left her blanket off for a while. What's up? Is it too muddy even for her? I was almost sure that she'd be covered in mud. I'm grateful she wasn't, but the not rolling part has me a little concerned. True, her blankets are covered in mud, so she is lying down sometime. I guess there's no need to worry, but I like to be on top of things in case there's a problem. I guess I'm insane to worry that my horse is too clean.

Raven - I forgot to mention how impressed I was by your flower seed project. All those plants will add some lovely touches to your lawn-not.

Well, thank you Lizzie; but the jury is still out. First, the seeds need to grow. I still have some - especially the fruit seeds, that haven't even germinated yet. Then, I need to refrain from killing them all until Ma Nature can take over.

Here's an amazingly well-trained dog!

Wow!!! That was fantastic!!!

Hey guys...

I won't be on for a while... I might lurk and like but crap is happening around here and I am going to be needed more often for a while. I hope y'all have a bunch of really nice weather days.

talk at y'all later....
Celtic:cry:

I'm so sorry that you have fecal matter that is happening in your life. It does sound, in later posts, as if you aren't as overwhelmed by the situation as you were. I do hope that things turn out well for you. But you must not stay away. This is the best support group EVER!! Just sayin'. nodding.gif

So good to see you, Wuzz! Waving%20smiley-happy059.gif

Hope the storms didn't hit you too hard a few days ago, Marlou. I got off easy here.

Lizzie - that's wonderful news that your two have decided to call a truce for a bit.

Sandy - Such good news that Penny is away from Sunny and has a good friend in Gigi. :)

My weekend was very busy. First of all, my brakes have now been replaced. They were beyond dead. Jeepers is happy again. There is a possibility that a bearing may have to be replaced, but I'm not going to fret over it.

My two favorite does have returned to grazing in the septic field. I hadn't seen them since hunting season, and was so worried that they were gone.

And now, this guy is hanging out at my place. He was here all day yesterday in various places. I hope that I didn't spook him too much by taking photos. I was inside the house, but he was still able to see me. By the way, his name is "Yul" after a certain bald actor that I had a huge crush on when I was young. Even more than Adam Cartwright! Anyhow, the fishing here may not be great, but he has very little distance to travel to get to the lake that my creek empties into. Fishing spots are easy to find. Secluded places to nest ... not so much. And we have the broad crowned sycamore trees along the creek that bald eagles favor so much. I hope that he isn't just passing through. They don't just eat fish, by the way. They will also go for squirrels. I have an overabundance of them.

A bald eagle - how amazing! So cool, Raven.

SandySu - I agree with not getting too tired but sometimes you just have to get stuff done. I am doing absolutely nothing all evening. I made enough Chinese food yesterday for two dinners so all I have to do for dinner is make some rice and use a microwave to heat up left overs.

Here is a photo of the new stalls with metal roof. The photo is taken from Wiseguy's old pen which now houses the goats.

This is a view from the front where we took down the goat wire, left the railroad tie inside the fence line as a .... scratcher and put up these nice rails along the front side.

Hey guys. :) Last summer, my first summer in this trailer, it was infested with tiny ants and not so tiny spiders (I hate spiders). 8-o Somebody told me about Ortho Home Defense so I sprayed around the base of my trailer and no more ants or spiders, well almost none. So now the ants are back but I can't spray again because of my sore wrists (thanks Rave ;), so Rave told me about Terro ant killer and boy do they love that stuff. Check this out.

Thanks again Rave. :D

There's just a few drops of this stuff on each piece of cardboard sitting in my kitchen window sill. They are coming in through the crack between the window and sill. This stuff is suppose to kill the colony but I don't know how it does because it looks like they are drinking it. Do they throw it up when they get back to the nest and the others drink it? GROSS!

It was pretty creepy at first but now it's entertaining. Die you buggers!

Sorry that I seem to have transmitted my wrist problem to you. Glad to make it up to you with the Terro. I warned you that it would be creepy. But yeah - they take it back to the nest and share what they've consumed. Gross, but efficient. It takes care of 'em pretty quickly. Just don't let your kitty get to the baits. That would be a bad thing. :(

A quick good night, since it's very late. I'll catch everyone up tomorrow.

You ARE up late!

G'Morning Everyone. Coffee's on me if you can handle good ole fashioned Columbian coffee that isn't unleaded.
