Hey all!

Anyone know why some of my plants started getting yellow??
Here is a pic http://i.imgur.com/vlWdut1.jpg

Damn analog tomatoes, if they had an OBD connector i could diagnose the problem. Or even an RS232 connection.

Those first two leaves covered the essential part. Now that they served their part in getting the plants going, they die. Now, if the inside leaves start getting yellow, they you have a problem. At least, that is what I think is going on.

Yep. http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/2197180/yellow-leaves-on-seedlings-and-fertilizing If it is not the first tow leaves, then you are overwatering.

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Key: "If you feel you are not overwatering - you are overfeeding ;) - then perhaps your soil mix is not draining well. Peat pots do retain water more than plastic and keep the roots damp even when the surface soil appears dry. So try going easier on the water, ok?"

Probably the pots keep water since i use those. I'll stay of the water for a while.

I think it is hard to over water peat pots so I think you need to start using a light amount of fertilizer. No more than half strength once per week. Over watering is bad but underwatering is probably even worse. You can pick up the peat pot carefully and feel how heavy it is right after watering. Then when you pick up the peat pots in the future you can tell if they are heavy or light.

PS - quarter strength fertilizer would be better.

I went to see Penny today to do the usual: groom her (she's shedding big time) and clean out her feet. The left hind was about the same. She picked it up, but she fussed about it a bit first. I had rubbed her leg before I tried. It was snowing lightly and was just a few degrees above freezing, so it wasn't all that cold. I'm beginning to think the cold isn't really a factor in the leg problem. I think she injured it, and it's getting better, but it still isn't right yet.

I just read something interesting on the horse forum I belong to. Someone has a mare that gives the farrier trouble when she gets her hooves done, and the owner stuck a strip of duct tape to the mare's nose, and she was good for the farrier! I think it must be that the tape distracts the horse, so she doesn't worry about what's being done to her. Others commented, and someone else said she did it when she clipped a horse that never tolerated the clippers well. Such a simple thing! It sounds too good to be true. I wonder if some horses get upset by something dangling off their nose. I might try it with Penny. She's usually pretty tolerant of things like that, but you never know, so of course, I won't tie her till I see how she reacts to the duct tape. Will it make her lift her hind foot more readily? Will it help her if/when I have to clip her again when it gets warm and she hasn't shredded out completely?

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

I hope Raven is doing okay. We haven't heard from her for awhile.

There is a meeting in Carson City at one o'clock and I can't make it until an hour late. They are discussing adding vaping to the smoking ban. I am quite opposed to this, obviously. I think I will go just in case I make it in time to speak.

It's almost freezing outside and we are still being threatened with a really cold overnight low Thursday night. I hope it doesn't get too cold. Many of the trees are already leafing out. The smart trees wait - mulberries and ash trees and poplars and cottonwoods.
