Sitting down, facing forward.
I was impressed by the young people doing such a great job on classical music. Maybe there is some hope for the world, in general. One thing that did surprise me in the second one was people walking right by and not stopping to enjoy such a great musical treat.

Fantastic fun, Uncle.

The music in the library video seemed to fit the mood of the weather here right now.

The kids were fabulous. Maybe the fat booming drims suited the weather, as well.

We had a magnificent down pour while I was cleaning today. Just a bit of lightening and thunder.

When I was driving home, I saw a magnificent large thunder cell off towards Lake Lahontan. I thought, "Gee, wouldn't it be great to have that right over the house." Then I thought about the hail we had in Dayton earlier and I thought "Oh noes, I hope not."

When I drove down the hill to my street the big raindrops were falling. As I got out to open the gate I heard the rifle shots and rumbles of a truly magnificent storm. I saw that the yard and the house had been drenched just minutes before I arrived. What a wonderful set of sights and sounds to come home to.

The dogs are all thrilled that I showed up to let them in the house:)

We've had rain here for the last week or so. You didn't get any of that, Awsum? I thought you would.

Lizzie, I think drums may make rain come. At least that was the thought at a Rainbow Gathering I went to. It was mid-July, a dry season hereabouts, but they sat up all night drumming, and it rained quite a bit then. I went to 2 Rainbow Gatherings, one in PA and one in N. Carolina, and it happened in both places. I learned about chiggers in the NC one. Also, I got to meet the Hari Krishna elephant, which I think was the high spot of that gathering. Anyway, if you want rain, try getting a drum circle together to drum all night long.

Do you remember Corky, of the many portraits I drew?

Deb, his owner, just emailed me to say he died last week, and today, she put another old horse, Gift, down. What a rough week! I'm particularly saddened about Corky, since he was a good guy, one Deb suggested I might ride now, though I thought his back was too swayed for a saddle these days. He was ridden a few years ago by my friend Karen, after her mare was injured. Corky and Penny seemed to be friends because we rode together, though they never shared a pasture. It looks like the year are old friends are leaving!

Gift was the boss of Penny's pasture when she was at Deb's, and Gift picked on Penny and was rather unkind to her, so my sentiments about this horse aren't as acute. Gift may have been mistreated. I don't know her history, but she was certainly not a friend to humans. My friend Mariah tried to adopt her at one time. Gift became really attached to Mariah's horse Fenia. I think Mariah thought taming Gift would be a challenge, but she returned her as incorrigible.

RIP, Corky and Gift.

Ducks are awesome.

I have dogs, miniature horses, goats.
Ducks really are awesome! They are such social little buddies. I had a hen duck that would come running to me every time she saw me, get right in my face, and make a quacking type noice over and over while bobbing her head up and down! It was the funniest yet sweetest thing ever! I love all animals. Animals are so interesting and fun to be around :) I also have chickens, dog, and cat :)

Welcome Ducklady, I'm Celti :)

I love ducks too! A few years ago we had about 5 or 6 layers. (I'm a big fan of duck eggs too! yum ;) ) But our duck were victims of *fowl* play i.e. dogs! I hope to have more ducks in the future for the sheer awesomeness of ducks and for eggs. :)
I am sorry your ducks got murdered :( Every time my ducks have got hurt or killed I go out like CSI and track the scene of the crime ;) haha My boyfriend laughs about me and my ducks and chickens :) They are just so hard to kerp alive, and I live surrounded by woods which makes it even harder. Flying ma
lard eggs are really good. They are slightly richer than a chicken egg and they are a green color :) Duck eggs are awesome to bake with too!

We'll be worming all the critters soon. Stop by and we'll dose you too, awsum:)
Just wormed all the critters at my house last weekend! Well, except the cat, he sneakily missed out....he was off chasing girl kitties ;) Garlic and milk mix, and the people in the house could be wormed as well ;) Funny but true, it will kill worms in humans!

So, something attacked my duck today.....juet ridiculous. I found him hiding in the brush. I picked him up and carried him to safety. He is eating, drinking, and alert. He cannot walk though. I put him some fluffy stuff for comfort and some chips under him. I have high hopes he will be ok, but you just never know. During my investigation found little patches of his feathers on the ground where he was attacked. I think it was a hawk. He had some blood under his wings where the feathers were ripped out. In the morning I will bath him (he bathes himself every morning), and move him to his outdoor safety pen. I pray he will be Improved in the morning.
Ducks are my favorite animal, but I just cannot seem to keep them safely.

Ducklady, I hope the duck will get better. Our family had a duck when I was a teenager. I could tell some stories about him. He was quite a character! I think he thought he was a dog (I hear they get imprinted, though he was not a hatchling when we got him -- but he was still yellow and fuzzy). Anyway, he loved our dog and followed her around and imitated what she did. And his first playmate was the next-door neighbor's dachshund.

Sitting down, facing forward.
moanin', Voltatics.

We have neighbors that have ducks and chickens here. We've thought about chickens, nothing beats a fresh egg, but with Bo around it could be a problem. Every year some of the chickens and ducks end up as prey for hawks. That's actually how it's supposed to work, I guess, but when they're pets that doesn't work well at all. I hope your duck recovers, Ducklady, he certainly is getting good care.

It's funny how ducks will emulate their "friends" and adopt the behavior of them. That makes me wonder if ducks are actually smarter than chickens or turkeys.

I remember the stories about Corky, too, Sandy. Our sympathies to you and Deb.

We went back to early spring, again. It only got to about 70 yesterday and will only be in the 60's today and we may even see a little rain. Mrs. Awsum took the day off yesterday so we worked on making more "topsoil" which helps make enough room for me to finish out the mulch enclosure. There's a lot more to make, lots of low spots to fill, but we're making good progress. Since it's cool and supposed to rain today I'll be making a run to Costco for some "essentials" like biscotti, LOL.

That Mrs. Awsum is a trooper. Not every gal would help you make topsoil:)

You guys are making me want some ducks. They sound like they have real personalities.

I've considered chickens but decided I would end up with mice [ick] and I'd have to clean the pen [ick]. I might change my mind since I just love the way chickens vocalize.

I found out the neighbor girl wants to make money this summer while school is out. It's genius, why didn't I think of it before. I hire her to help me clean pens, clean up the yard and spring clean the house.
