I was just out mowing the back forty and helped a box turtle get over the fence. Poor guy seemed to be trying to climb a four foot high fence and turtles are just a tad too short for that. Put him down on the other side and he just kept going like nothing happened at all, like turtles seem to always do.

I had one of those in my woods too. It was as big as my hand with my fingers spread. He tried to get away when I tried to take his pic. I guess he was camera shy too.

I did get the pic though after putting him on my deck, then back into the woods. I've never seen Box Turtles that big before. I'm lovin most of the critters here in the woods.

I'm always kind to turtles and reptiles, even snakes. They normally don't bother us at all and they can help keep the pests at bay.

This one wasn't all that big, maybe eight or ten inches long, six inches wide and four or five inches high. Kind of a youngster. I've seen them around here and as a kid, over a foot long and must weight six or eight pounds.

I just set a rope in the elm tree we have to take down. It isn't all that hot out, 86, but with the humidity it was a chore. I used a ladder and a pole saw to get the rope attached up around 30 feet or so. This thing is leaning at about a 15 or 20 degree angle, normal growth and not from problems, toward my neighbors so I want to make sure I get enough leverage to make sure it falls the other way. It's only about a foot or 14 inches in diameter but probably lose to 50 feet tall overall.

Usual procedure is to trim it down on the way up, and the top, and then take the rest of it down. Safer. You plan on doing it that way?

Well, there isn't a whole lot on the way up. I plan on the front cut, tension the line. start the back, felling, cut, more tension as that progresses, and literally pull it over in the direction I want it to go. Once it's up to vertical, it's a done deal.

Happy weekend, Voltnics.

Super hot. Already 74 degrees out and the sun isn't even up yet.

I have a couple of ladies coming over today. One of my neighbors will have coffee and we will chat.

Then, my gardening buddy is scheduled to show up.

Crappy Saturday. Eating breakfast and noticed a branch fall out of yet another tree. Went out and ppicked up a ten foot branch and there's another twenty feet still up in the tree, waiting to fall from about 35 feet. Can we all say "Damocles Sword"?

Then it started raining.

Went to throw the clothes in the dryer and the control knob just spun. The knob cracked where it grabs the control shaft. Looked the part up on Sears, $40 for a lousy plastic knob and a spring clip with shipping.

Decided to work on getting a DNA25 board into a VTR. That's a no go without a mini mill to take care of the metal work.

Went to move some files onto my new Tab 4 with Kit Krap on it and Kit Krap won't allow writing to the SD card.

Maybe I'll just take a nap.

No sign of Tom. Bill & I talked it over this morning, and we think he must be dead. He was old and frail, and going this long without food would probably do him in if something else didn't get him before this. It's interesting that his friend, Jacob, the orange cat, hasn't been here to visit since his disappearance. I think maybe Jacob knows what happened to him and that it's pointless to look here for him. Is that attributing too much reasoning to a cat?

My life is empty now with no animals in it. First Penny, and now Tom. I knew they were getting older and had prepared myself, but that's not the same as going through losing them.
Sandy Su, I am so sorry. I hope that you find out what happened to him so that you do not have to always wonder. Sometimes animals do go off alone to pass on, but my mind still acts like it did when I was a little girl, and I hope that he comes back to you :) I send you a (((HUGS))) Maybe you will get a new baby to add to your family :) when you are ready :)

Anytime we are driving I make whoever driving stop if I see a turtle in the road to save it :) I have brought some to our property that were in a dangerous area to have a safe home :)
Reptiles are great for keeping critters away!

OMG somebody stop the heatwave. I am shopping my .... off on ebay and amazon. So far, a sleeveless t-shirt for $3 that includes shipping and some Dansko clogs, new in the box for $45 with shipping. Also, a very pretty top that should go well with different colors of skirts for $20.

Stop me now:)

Being stuck inside has unloosed my inner shopper. She only comes out once every three years.

We would get rid of a rattler if it cam on the property but we keep all the gopher snakes and long nose snakes. They eat rodents. Also, gopher snakes eat rattlers.

We don't have turtles but we do try to stop and save any snakes on the road.

Did I mention it is 101 degrees outside?

That's right, the big wedding day is here. I bet Rave is exhausted from wedding planning and glad to see her son happily married.

It's chilly here lately -- high in the 60s today, and it's been raining all day. I'm glad the horse owner and I changed our plans when we heard the weather report and did the photo shoot of her horse yesterday evening instead of this morning. I got some good photos, which I sent her last night, and already we decided which one I'll do the portrait from. Next project will probably be her guinea pig!

I, too, miss Rave and hope the wedding went well. I can't wait to hear all about it.

When I was at Deb's barn yesterday, I didn't get a chance to discuss with her about the horses she has available for lease, but I did talk to the owner of the horse I shot and another woman who boards there. They suggested Dixie, who I know slightly since she used to share the pasture with Penny when Penny lived there. I'm also interested in Baby, though I was told he doesn't know much, he's pretty green. Unless that means too much spirit, it might be interesting to train him. I was thinking of maybe leasing one of the horses for one month, then switching to the other for a month, then deciding. Still, all this may get turned around when I talk with Deb, so no point in making too many plans.

The reason I couldn't talk to Deb was because she's off at a horse show this weekend, and she and her friend Kelly were hurrying to leave. Now it's pouring rain today. Poor Deb & Kelly! Nothing worse than a show on a rainy day! And my horse club is having their show this weekend, too. I'm glad I didn't volunteer to work at the show today. I would have been cold and wet all day long.
