OK, since I think I'm back, I'll tell you the tale of my day.

I had a date to meet my friend Karen at a Japanese restaurant at noon for lunch. I had to tutor today at 3, so I figured I'd have a little time to kill, but that was OK. Especially since I wanted to go computer shopping. I figured I had time after lunch before meeting up with the first kids at 3. But no. Their mom phoned to say they are all sick with colds, so then I didn't have anyone to tutor till 5:30, the new girl. I guess I should have gone home, a 1/2-hour drive from Ithaca, but I decided not to, so I shopped for a few groceries and then parked my car and hung out in the Chinese restaurant parking lot, where I have permission to park when I have to tutor.

It was a long day, reading a little, snoozing, watching the tarffic and folks who pulled into the parking area. Yawn!

I had a good session with the new girl, but once again, she didn't do the homework she found difficult. The biggie is writing about why she wants to visit China. She and her mom plan to do that sometime at the end of April, and she's very excited about it. But she is having trouble writing about it, and I think she is intimidated about writing, since it's her weakest point. Still,to get better, she has to write. I gave her a lecture today about it. I told her it didn't have to be perfect, to just write what's on her mind without wondering if it made sense or was spelled right and then to go over it and try to make it more coherent. I really want her to write a lot to get better, and she is resisting because she is afraid of not being good enough. Other than that, it was pretty routine. We did the vocaand grammar, and I bought a newspaper so she could see what it was and what a headline was. I had a stamp pad and we did her fingerprint, which was something she said she did't know about -- how you get a fingerprint.

This new computer's keyboard has a different feel and typing on it is harder. And it's very late. I'm going to bed. Good night, folks.

Help! I've got a new computer now, and I'm trying to figure it out! Eek! I'm so not a tech person. But at least, I think I've gotten back here agin.

You will get the hang of the new computer, SandySu, although tutoring children is probably easier than learning a new computer [ha,ha].

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

I feel weak. I have a cleaning job and then I was going to run into town to buy a new vacuum at Costco. One of them caught my eye. I have to go to the bank and get lunch anyway. Or, I could just come home and go shopping next week:)

I'm picking my friend up at the airport in Reno at 10pm. That is super late for me. I hope I get a nap in this afternoon.

'moanin, Voltaticalytes.

So don't keep us in suspense, Sandy! What kind of computer did you get?

Lizzie, what kind of vac are you looking at? We've got a Dyson and it is great as a carpet or bare floor cleaner. The "utility" wand is basically useless for anything and I usually get out the small shop vac when I want to do the nooks and crannies. We had a rechargeable stick broom that was nice, but the battery is just about dead and replacements aren't available. I may take it apart to see if I can't replace the battery with something else. In the mean time I bought a corded stick vac that doubles as a corded hand vac. It's great for quick cleanups and for the hard floors. It does a reasonably good, surface only, job on carpet as well and has a rotating brush for carpet but really can't compare to a real carpet vac.

I just get the Hoover rewind vacuums. They last about two years. I beat them up pretty good throwing them In the truck and dragging them into the houses that I clean. I love the auto rewind of the cord.

When I get my tile floors in my house, I will have to see about a hard surface friendly vacuum.

Oh and hi my voltie Peeps! Been fighting the killer tooth pain from hades. I have an impacted molar ( :censored: wisdom tooth coming in under the molar) and on top of that I got an abscess on the very same tooth.:shock::shock: I had a leftover pain med (Hydrocodone) from a previous dental session and it did not work!!!:-x:-x The ONLY thing that helped was two extra strength acetaminophen (500mg rapid release gels) and one ibuprofen (200mg). Which is the exact opposite of what my dentist told me. He said 1 acetaminophen and 2 Ibuprofen but his way didn't work. I'm going in on the 11th to have it pulled. I wish to all that is holy that there was another dentist in a 30 mile radius from here.:(

Thank the good Lord that the pain has receded to only a faint ache. I felt like tom hanks in the movie cast away.

I would check with your dentist or doctor about this. You don't want to have to get a liver transplant as a consequence. For serious pain, I alternate regular dosage levels of acetaminophen and ibuprofen every two hours. Taking them at the same time does not work as well. My MD has put me on meloxicam for arthritis pain, and I can almost convince myself that I have no arthritis.

celti, you have my deepest sympathies. I went through a similar scenario in my late teens and ended up taking a whole bottle, about 20, aspirin with codeine trying to get rid of it. When I called the dentist for help he asked if I had passed out. Obviously not and I was still in a lot of pain. Dentists, to me, are disciples of Torquemada.

Hey Tritium, careful with that dust back there, a little moisture and you'll have concrete :w00t:

Yeah I know. I was very careful to take it only when the pain became unbearable. Generally I only stick to on or the other.. Alternating like you said. But sometimes I needed something stronger. Generally what I have done in the past is stock up on my prescriptions from getting teeth pulled. I usually never need to take anything afterwards because there is no pain but I never know if I need it for another tooth down the road. But I ran out about a year ago and haven't made any appointments for removals in two years. Basically because of the whole neighbor drama and always having to stick close to the house so i could be a witness to one of their crimes. Now that I am back on schedule, I should be taking ONLY the recommended dosages for things. I really really like my liver and don't want it destroyed (i like living too:D ) so I tried my best to resist. :):)

Oh my goodness, Celti. Is the dentist prescribing any antibiotics? An abscess does not sound good. I feel for you. Nothing worse than tooth pain.

It is a late night for me. My friends airplane left half an hour late so I son't be picking her up at the airport until almost 11pm. Yikes, that is a late night for me.

No lizzie he didn't because i haven't gone yet. I usually take a natural antibiotic like Yellow Root but I ran out. The abscess is receding as I opened it myself (Sterilization was used) drained it, twice, and gargled peroxide and salt water, at separate times of course. I can't wait to get all these teeth outta my noggin!

Celtic, I hope your tooth pain has abated.

Awsum, yes, it's another Mac laptop. I hope to get the old one fixed. I'm wondering if I should take it to someone local but untried, and if so, who, or if I should just mail it off to Apple.

I still have to figure out quite a lot. I guess it's time for a call to my brother or else hire someone local to set everything up for me. The biggie is, I don't have MS
word. I could download it if I knew the registration number, but where do I find that? Maybe my brother can tell me. Any info in the old computer is inaccessible now, since I can't get it to boot up. Is that the term, when you turn it on and the info gets active so it comes on your screen? The little line that says it's loading jams about halfway and refuses to move.

Trit, I don't think Apples are crap. I like them, though they are expensive. I feel like a minority, though, since most others use Windows.

I'll be tutoring later today, and I need Word to do their fill-in-the-blanks sheets, though I guess maybe they will get them handwritten for a while. At least I can print worksheets from the Internet now, so that's half the problem solved.

Another small detail is that the touch of this computer is much harder than the other one. I remember my brother adjusting the touch's sensitivity on the old one, so it can be done, but I have to figure out where and how. And every time I turn it on, I have to type in my password, whereas the old one didn't need that, so I tried to bypass that step, but it didn't take. I'm trying to figure out as much as I can by myself before crying for help.

You are tougher than I am, Celti!!!!!

Maybe just try to get some help, SandySu.

I got about 5 hours of sleep after getting home at 12:30am. What a late night!

    'moanin, Volties.

Sandy, 3mg is definitely on the money. Open Office is a good, free, alternative and works quite bit like MS Office. I have encountered problems importing Access databases into Open Office, and still use MS Office for database purposes, but Open Office is fine. There are differences, sure, but you can work around them or just get used to another way to do certain things.

Can't say I'm a fan of Apple but, then again, I've never really used one. I guess it comes down to what your used to and comfortable with. After all the years with Windows (sometimes broken or sticking Windows) making a switch to OSX doesn't sound like fun and I'm sure you feel the same way going in the other direction.

Celti, you're right up there with Tom Hanks "Castaway". Did you go to the Rambo School of Dentistry by chance?

Good afternoon Volties. My Son has been here all week and just now left to drive back to Michigan. We had a ball. Sure hated to see him leave. Couple of months and I'll be Grampaw for the first time.
Celtic, I sure hope you get that pain under control. I hate tooth problems.....and dentists.
