We had them one year while we had a squirrel monkey. He went crazy over them. We ended up freezing quarts of them for wintertime treats.
They are great protein! My chickens have been trying to get them, but most are just out of reach.

Glad to hear Willie is OK, it's never fun when pets get sick.

Bo is at rest now. It was a very difficult decision and thing to do, but the prognosis was not at all good. He was getting very weak and his breathing was very labored. Even the staff at the vet was in tears.
Oh Bo. I am so sorry awsum. Those decisions are very tough. I was hoping and praying he would pull out of it, but sometimes our lil buddies just cannot and we are left with the decision on what they need. I know I cannot say much to make you feel better, but you and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.
Rest in peace Bo. I hope you meet up with my BooBear, you guys would get along very well.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs,

Red sky at dawn this morning. Cooler at 75 degrees and windy and 23 mph predicted. It is already a bit windy this morning and cloudy. Sadly, no rain is predicted.

I brought the horses in from the big play pen last night so they wouldn't get rained on with out shelter. Alas, no rain.

My arms and the rest of me is starting to feel better. The hips aren't hurting too much and the shoulders are still burning but do feel better. I have a job today so I'm going to go do the job. I'm going to rest up when I get home and hopefully I can get back to working on our yard and home tomorrow albeit in a reasonable fashion.

I will say that the side yard looks great and the whole ordeal was worth the effort and the muscle and joint soreness:) Maybe.

@awsum140 . . .

"My" Sincerest Condolences to "You" and your "Wife" that "Bo" will no longer be with us. With all your stories over the years about his antics and him being such a part of "Your Family" - "Bo" definitely became a part of "Voltville" too. So sad to read "Bo" is no longer going to around - "Bo" will be missed . . .

Oh crap awsum. I am so sorry to read this. I'm familiar with that pain. Wish dogs were designed to live as long as us but they aren't and it's almost like losing a kid. Sorry you and Mrs Awsum are having to go through this.
It's infusion Monday here after a brief workout at the fat farm. Hope everybody has a tolerable Monday.

I do hope you and your beautiful bride have a tolerable Monday, Wuzz. You are so right, it is almost like losing a kid when you lose your dog. I know Penny was a dog and not a people but I still miss her and it has been quite awhile since she passed on.

69 degrees and busy here. We need to put up an oriole feeder. We need to finish the trim on the back door. Inside and out. I need to do some weeding. Not too much or I will have nothing left to give. I have about 11 trees and a number of plants to plant.

Sounds like I need to get to work!

I wanted to share this with you guys!
Im sure you all know how much I hate bugs! This year is the year of the Cicadas. They are a cousin to the locust, and they come out every 17 years. There are 13 year broods and 17 year broods. We get the 17year broods. It has started....

Those are the shells they come out of. They crawl out of the earth, up onto anything they are near, and they hatch out of those shells. I noticed the first 7 yesterday....and today I saw 12....and I got this picture of one of them this morning:

They are pretty lethargic right now, but once they gather their strength they will take flight, and they are sneaky lil things! They make a loud noise. I have been paranoid as heck outside! They only live for 4 to 6 weeks. Just enough time to eat stuff and mate. It is a very interesting cycle! Even though i am not big on bugs I have been very interested in them. Something you could only see 4 to 5 times in your life. Some areas get overwhelmed with them, and I told my Husband that if they get crazy here....I am not going outside!!

Around here, we have some cicadas nearly every summer. Don't be afraid of them. They don't bite or sting. On a hot day, you can hear their chigga-chigga-chigga all day long. I'm used to it, and it doesn't bother me. Some years there seem to be more than others, and they like hot summers, but I think we get them yearly, not on some longer cycle, though I've heard of that.

I'm so sorry, Awsum! I'm sending vibes for you and your wife to not be too upset, though I know that's probably futile.

This is my first year seeing them. I was 11 years old the last time they were here, and I do not remember if I saw them in the area I grew up in or not. I know they will not harm me, but I just dont like big bugs...because anytime they get on me they seem to get stuck in my hair! Lol Im not as scared of big bugs as I used to be, but I just get a lil panicked when certain ones land on me.

Awsum, I'm so sorry to hear of Bo's passing. I know you loved him very much. It's tough to see our fur kids at the end of their life and especially hard when you have to make that decision. Know that Bo will always be with you in your heart. Sending you warm thoughts and prayers.

I'm with you as far as those things are concerned. Thankful that my area will be spared until 2020. They don't have to bite for me to be totally terrified of them. Actually, I hate all creepy crawlies... yuck!
