Good evening, Voltville. Happy Weekend Eve!
I've been away from the forums for a very long time. I went back a dozen or so pages, to kind of see the lay of the land. This looks like the same friendly forum I used to spend so much time visiting. It's nice to be back "in town".

It is very, very good to "see" all of you. I am well, and I have been well. Since the last time I was here regularly, the only major change in my life was a change of employers. I gladly took a pay cut to get away from my former place of employment. The budget is tighter, but the stress is now non-existent. I have more time and patience for my relationships. Life is good.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Yes, I have to work today and it is a four letter word.

I'm glad you found a job that suits you better, @CatLady007 .

It's a lovely morning here. It is supposed to be hot which stinks because I need to go into Carson City at noon. I want to pick up the last piece of trim for the interior door. I need to go to the bank. And my friend said Walmart is selling off the summer items for cheap. I'd love to put up a volley ball/badminton net for the BBQ and give something for the kids to do.

I got a set of horse shoes so I need to figure out what it takes to make the horseshoe pits. How long of boards will I need? I will have to pick up those boards next week.

Good morning Voltpeeps.

I feel off balance today. I'm thinking my ears are stuffed up from all this smoke in the area. I have lots to do but lets see if I get any of it done:)

I at least have to get the critters fed.
I feel like that when I sinuses act up. I hate it. A herbal remedy that my parents do and I have done since I was a kid is dice garlic up and mix it with water, bring to a boil, strain garlic out completely, let cool, and drop the garlic water in your ears and let it set in each ear for about 30 seconds or more. Do not put alot of garlic in, because the more garlic you put in the stronger the fluid will be and it may cause discomfort (it will not hurt you but it will not feel the greatest). I dice up a small piece and mix it with a regular size coffee cup size of water. It does wonders for the ears! My little sister got bad ear aches as a kid, and my parents did that one time to her ears and she has not had any ear issues since.

That's just one of the great things about garlic. Fiance had a spider bite on his arm once (which was fortuitous because I had just read a home herbal remedy book) in the perfect shape of a circle. Just take a slice of garlic, place directly on the wound (will burn like heck! ) and do that 2 or 3 times a day. Fiance's bite healed up in 3 days, except for a scab, but a least it closed up. Garlic isn't know as Russian Penicillin for nothing.

There are also different health 'teas' you can make as well. I truly love natural remedies but still sometimes nothing beats a good ol' aspirin, ibuprofen, or tylenol for pain relief :pervy:

    'afternoon, Viltizens.

I've managed to get a summer cold, somehow. Sore throat, yes I still have tonsils, and for me to feel it as a sore throat it's usually pretty severe. Listerine and ibuprophin seem to be making progress though. 've got to get the lawn mowed soon or I'll need a combine instead of a mower.

We did get some rain yesterday but all it did was add to the humidity. It was another broiling day here with "feels like" in the 115F range, way too hot!

Interesting! Garlic sure is a wonder!

I read somewhere long ago that to avoid swimmer's ear, you should stick some rubbing alcohol in your ears. I had a bad earache after swimming one time. I needed antibiotics to cure that, but it was so awful that I decided that, after each shower, I'd dab some alcohol in my ears. It seems to have worked. I dip a Q-Tip into the alcohol bottle and dab it in and around my ear. I know they say nothing smaller than your elbow should go in your ear, but that's ridiculous! I'm very careful to do it gently, and it has never hurt me. I've never had an ear infection since.

I wish I had known about that when I got a bad spider bite on my arm a couple of years ago! It was awful. I was visiting a friend in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC, and I guess they get more lethal spiders down there, because at night, we were sitting around a table on her deck, and suddenly, it felt as if a wasp had stung my arm, but I know they don't go out after dark. My friend said she had seen a black widow around, so maybe that was what stung me. I never found the culprit, since I was freaking out over my injury.

Anyway, it was quite painful, and though she suggested some soothing ointment in her medicine chest, it swelled up my whole lower arm and was very painful for about 3 days, and it gradually receded after that. I kept sticking that ointment on, but I really don't think it helped. I think finally my body just healed itself.

    Lazing is good, Wuzz:)

I've heard that black widow bites can be quite painful, SandySu.

I think I'll use landscape timbers for the horse shoe pit and put it where it can get afternoon shade. Hubby is going to put some big wood rounds to sit on since I like to sit when I can:) Nothing fancy.

I got a volleyball net for cheap and I got some badminton rackets and birds. We chose a spot for the net so next week we will install the net and start playing badminton.

The last threads of the deck project are happening this morning. We need to tack weld the metal grate, put up one 13 1/2" piece of outside trim and screw down the 16 foot board we ripped to make the metal grate fit. Pics will be happening.

One last piece of indoor trim needs to be stained, carefully cut and installed. That's it.

    'moanin, Volties.

While it's still kind of hot and humid compared to the last week or se it's pretty nice out. I had some errands to run this morning and now I'm going out to harvest the crop, mow the lawn. Still have a sore throat so I called the Doctor's office and they're supposed to get back to me, he's booked solid. I'll probably miss the call 'cause I wear ear protection, AM/FM radio/sound deadening muffs, while mowing.

    Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Yesterday was nice. I did some weeding but didn't accomplish too much. It was hot so we tried to catch up on the Olympic action. We have way too much recorded. We'll never finish by the closing ceremonies!

It is pretty smoky today. It will be in the upper nineties again. Have to clean a house and run into Carson City to get Hubby's new glasses. I talked Hubby into stopping by Costco tonight on his way home. That way I can go to north Carson and not spend the time to go south since it is too hot to drive around if I don't have to.

    'moanin, Voltaticalytes.

Our heat wave is still plugging along although today we might be hard pressed to get to 90. We got a thunderstorm last night, that woke me up at 2AM, with another .26" of rain. PSE&G has said that the grid is really getting loaded hard with all the AC running but no brownouts or blackouts, yet. Fingers crossed!

I called the sawbones on Monday and they were booked solid. So the nurse did a phone "examination" and I got a prescription for a "Z" pack. Took the first two Monday night. Yesterday my stomach went into rebellion mode and I had a pretty miserable afternoon and I've been eating very "cautiously". I did manage to take the weed wacker for a walk in the morning, yesterday, though. Woke up this morning feeling feverish and checked my temp, but nothing. I haven't had a cold or the flu in so long, let alone a summer cold or flu, I forget what it feels like.

So today I'm just taking it easy and chillin' in the house. I want to look into Roku and sling for TV service. We had Netflix for a while and rarely watched a movie on it so finding a reasonable alternative for regular style programming is what we need. FiOS is way out of control with their pricing and every time I see a commercial for a deal for new subscribers, less than half what I'm paying for less service, my head wants to explode. They're paying for those specials with what us long time subscribers are stuck paying! So it's either going to be streaming TV with an antenna for local channels or I'll be a new customer for Comtrash and get one of their deals.
