Good morning, Voltinians.

Hi Trit. Nice to see you Wuzz.

I can't believe your puppy is already three months old. Weather is coming in but shouldn't be too bad at 50 degrees daytime.

Need to clean horse pens, work with horses, put away laundry. Laundry can wait until tomorrow. It's already sitting in a basket getting wrinkled anyway:) I want to get stuff done outside since tomorrow might be rainy.

'afternoon (here, anyway), Voltatics.

It was 33 when I got up at 5 to take Leo for his morning constitutional. The sun came up and warmed things pretty fast. While he took his after breakfast nap I took a shower and got dressed for November, jeans, long sleeve Henley. When I took him out for his 10 o'clock trip I almost died from heat! I'm back in shorts and a t-shirt. It's 68 according to the weather station, but feels more like 75 or 80 to me with the sunshine. Nice breeze as well.

Shorts won't be the case tomorrow, though. Oh well, climate change or is that winter starting to arrive?

We hit 78 today but the high tomorrow is only 67. Lows in the mid 40s for a couple of nights then back up to the 70s on Tuesday. Dang skeeters are rough this year though.

It actually hit 70 degrees out there today. Dang.

We still have buffalo gnats [black flies] which I am totally allergic to. My face swells up whenever they bite me. Hate it. The wind is ripping out there. We might get some rain.

'afternoon, Volties.

The weather prognosticators got it right and late fall arrived overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. The wind has been howling ever since. My weather station has shown gusts up to 28mph but keep in mind that it is down below the tree line so the actual wind speed, at say 100 feet or so, is probably closer to 50mph. Temperatures have stayed around 40, day and night. Hopefully, the wind will die off and it'll warm up a bit tomorrow.

I put Leo in his crate this morning and went outside to do a few things that had to get done. When I cam back I noticed the storm door was ajar, about a foot. It must not have latched and the wind caught it and blew it open. The bottom opener, there's one on top and one on bottom, almost ripped out of the jamb. The jamb did split and two of the four screws holding the opener snapped off. So, I got the pieces out, took out the remaining two screws to get the mount off the piece, applied some Gorilla glue and put it back in with some finish nails to hold it tight while the glue dries. When I put it back, the bottom opener, I'm going to use three inch screws to get into the framing and, hopefully, stop that from happening again. I may also add a safety chain, just in case.

Our lows were mid 40s here just before dawn. The wood stove sure felt good this morning. I was supposed to split firewood but had too much other stuff to do. Went out and bought the turkey to smoke Thur. Frozen so it should be thawed enough to brine overnight Wednesday

I'm not cooking this year. Wednesday I have to buy a couple of pies to take with me to MIL house on Thursday. My kind of Thanksgiving!

Rained hear overnight. Woke me up at 4am and I couldn't go back to sleep but it didn't freeze overnight.

We haven't been anywhere for Thanksgiving since our parents passed. Now our Son lives in Detroit so it's just me, wife and our best friend who was my business partner for over 20 years. Got the routine down pat. I smoke a turkey, she fixes the rest. We eat Thursday and Saturday she makes a turkey soup/stew that doesn't last long. Sounds boring but I hope we get to do it again next year.

'moanin, Volties.

Somehow the Holiday Season snuck up on both Mrs. Awsum and me this year. We have gotten a turkey and the fixins but it just doesn't seem like it's time for some reason. I' way behind on my normal preparations and I hope everyone is patient. Things will start happening, soon. I'll have to get myself into motion so everything happens smoothly. We're betting Leo likes turkey, LOL.

The new shelter is up but I haven't moved the horse yet since I have to cover the extension cord that goes to the heated bucket and my heated bucket has not yet arrived for the new horse pen. I still have to buy the plywood to put on the sides and Hubby needs to buy the u's the connect the plywood to the poles of the shelter. I'm also short two saddle clamps so I will have to get out of here early to go to Fallon and then on to Dayton to clean a house at noon. Looks cloudy and nasty out there but it is above freezing.

I don't want to put the new horse in his new pen until I can be here so looks like Friday he can move in to his new digs.

'moanin, Voltatics and Happy Thanksgiving.

It's overcast, kind of cool, 32, and we might get some showers. That might dampen things at the parades in Philly and NYC but they're going full steam. All the character balloons are inflated and costumes are being donned. I hope everyone has a great time.

Mrs. Awsum started doing some pre work for todays' feast. Cranberry sauce is made, stuffing is made and the sweet potatoes are done as well. All we'll need to do is "dress" the bird and pop it into the oven. I saw a photo with a caption that said "I'm no cook but I can follow directions". The directions were "let the bird chill in the sink for a few hours". The picture was a turkey, one wing draped over the edge of the sink, a bottle of beer cradled in the other wing. Great imagination.

I don't want to be contrary, but the popularly taught story of Thanksgiving is off a little. The Indians certainly helped the Colonists with what to grow and how to grow it, but until the Colonists stopped the communal farm and went to individual farms, with the owners controlling what they did with their products, things didn't go to well. It was after that, that the first "Thanksgiving" happened, sort of a three day party, and the Native Americans were invited to share in the bounty. Check the writings of William Bradford for the real story.

Incidentally, I think Uncle should be a graphic artist in his next life.

Like the old Alka Seltzer commercial line "I can't believe I ate the whole thing". We had a great dinner and just enough dessert. Now it's coffee time.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. If you think about it, no matter what side of the political fence you're on, there's just so much to be thankful for.

Here's Leo, this morning, with just a "few" of his toys -

And here he is after his dinner of turkey, chicken, rice, sweet potato, turkey broth and kibble. Guess the tryptophan got to him -
