Last night I put a single coil (26g twisted Ti) on the dual deck and filled up the two open juice channels on the other side with cotton. It continues to perform fantastic. I still haven't tried the wick ring yet but frankly I have no reason to use it. I set it on its side all day at work again today and leaking continues to be a non-issue for me.

do you block the other airflow as well?

Right behind you...
I left the other airflow hole open. It's putting out some major flavor.

Next time you rebuild on the Velocity deck and want a single coil, you could try this method:

Works great on a real Velocity with the side airflow, but there might be some airflow starvation over the center of the coil in the Cthulu. Don't think leaking will be a problem though.

Yes I tried it on my Velocity RDA some time ago and found the vape wasn't satisfactory because of the indirect airflow as you mentioned, and I left the top four airflow holes wide open too to try get some airflow onto the center of the coil but still no cigar. It might be worth a try on this deck just to find out but I'm not sure the performance would improve much for the reasons mentioned.

That looks great.

One other reason to use the wick ring besides potential leaks is you can get access to the deck to tweak something if needed with less risk of disturbing the wicks while taking the bottom end off.

you can't just say somethign like this and not elaborate. I bought it solely for the single coil deck and i love it. What did you not like about it?

Quite simply the RTA seems to be designed for for the dual deck (I'm no expert but the relation ship between the coil and the chimney cover seems really important small coils in small chambers produce great flavour however once placed in a larger volume like the Cthulhu v2 chimney the flavour is lacking, maybe if i made a massive single coil i would have gotten better results but the flavour was meh good but nothing special from my 3mm kanthal coil I would liken it to the experience of a kanger tank.
Secondly the restriction that they add is not enough for me to easily MTL at the same time its not open enough for me to get a super satisfying lung hit - Yet again each to there own i would personally recommend the dual coil in this RTA but if you enjoy the single maybe ur just better at building coils what ever you like best it does not matter!

I personally run it dual kanthal 26 gauge coils coming out at 0.55ohm around 30w with the air flow 70% open with a Taifun GT2 Drip tip and its great i enjoy it and thats all that really matters!

To the person that recommended leaving the wick ring on and stuffing a bit of the cotton down (sorry could not find the post) i gave it a go would well. made things a bit quicker and easier however i would be surprised if this method still worked well with max VG and high watts..

Just wondering why would you want to remove your juice control (inner) ring I can see that it can be easily removed and it still should not leak as long as your deck oring holds up but it seems as easy to just leave it in and not touch it@! am i missing something?

maybe i'm the one you're talking about, who just stuffed the ends of the wick under the ring. I rewicked last night and used a micro screwdriver to push the ends completely under the ring, without stuffing them in too tight. I'm vaping now at 71 watts with 30/70 pg/vg, and have been getting zero dry hits, it works a charm. the only reason to remove the inner juice ring is that it's kind of a pain, and not needed.

This is how I wick mine also. I think I got the idea from you. :) I've left my inner juice ring in place, but I don't use the juice flow control, I just leave it wide open.

When I wicked the single deck, I did it before putting on the wick ring, when I did the dual deck, I left the ring in, threaded the wick ends under the ring and into the channels and then trimmed them.... I think I prefer the threading and trimming....
I plan to leave the juice control ring in and use it, some of my liquids are thicker than others....

Edit: just ordered some 28g and 34g so I'll have other builds instead of my twisted 30g and parallel 30g and 26/32 Claptons to try out.... Looking forward to a twisted 28 core/34g wrap Clapton build....

That's exactly how I have been building/wicking and never a leak or problem except that I stuffed a bit too much cotton in the slot on the first build and wicking was restricted. I found that "packing" the cotton in the slot is too restrictive. "Just a little bit'll do ya".

I also tried this. Best wicking. No dry hits, taste is amazing. No leaking. I was about to go back to my silverplayv2 but now this is rockin:)

wow great to hear that it can keep up under watts thanks for the method!

Just thought I'd post an update.... Just over 24 hours short of using it for a week, no leaks and no dry hits.... I've had a few that tasted like dry hits minus that dry hit feel on the single deck.... Compared to the v1, its easier and quicker to rebuild, and a slight improvement on production and flavor.... I'm liking it....

Reading through the thread, I decided to initially remove the juice control ring, and tap the cotton lightly through the top of the wick ring over the channels... I'm happy to report no leaking, and wicking quite well with my 50/50 DIY. :)

The v2 is VERY nicely designed and well-made IMO. :) Loads of dense vapor, and flavor. I'm happy to have another solid, single-coil deck to work with as well. ;) Along with my Goliath v2, I should be set for awhile now in that department.
