Tried the straw trick with a Q-tip and it worked ok, just a bit underpowered. Ordered a couple frothers from China on eBay, $3 for both. Went ahead and got 2 in case one craps out. It works great. Goodbye incessant shaking!!! Used the frother and crock pot on my last batch and it's a vast improvement. Mixed in shot glasses (no beakers yet), threw 'em in the crock pot and covered with a splatter screen, frothing for a couple minutes every hour. Gonna do up a batch tomorrow and test with/without the crock pot. Definitely think a frother should be just as much a part of the toolbox as a scale.

Try looking up a magnetic strirrer on eBay it's fairly inexpensive

Very much interested in your results - with and without the crock pot. I am guessing the crock pot will help in the short term, but they both will taste the same in 5 days or so. Do let us know.

Richmond, Va...Right in Altria's back yard.
I have this stuff called Instamorph. Basically its plastic pellets and when you drop them in hot water they turn clear and malleable for a short time. When they cool back down again they become a hard white machineable plastic.

Same stuff the horror industry uses to make custom vampire fangs.

Tomorrow, Im gonna try to make a miniature frother using this stuff and some rigid wire I have. Goal is to keep it small enough to fit into the opening of a 100ml bottle yet still be functional.

If I can get all of that accomplished Ill attach it to a dremel tool and let you guys know my results afterwards.

I really think were on something here with the frother and seed steeping combo.

I think a frother is superior to a stir plate. A stir plate can only handle 1 batch at a time. Both are simply a more efficient way to mix. And no matter how well a batch is mixed/stirred the molecules still need time to coalesce.
