I've decided to give up vaping due to dehyrdration issues resulting in a cotton mouth and sore, burning tongue. I've been using different flavoured 0 nicotine PG, as I don't need the nicotine. I haven't tried VG, but, from what I hear, it's just as drying. I've tried drinking plenty of water as suggested, but it doesn't help. It takes days for my mouth to return to feeling normal. The severe dryness makes me worry about causing rapid deterioration to my dental health, too.

I'm approaching vaping from a different perspective than many of you. I've been a moderate cigar and cigarillo smoker, so I was excited to try vaping because it sounded like an interesting alternative with many benefits, and I liked the idea of the cool technology, different flavors and cheap liquid. I don't need to smoke cigars all the time. I enjoy puffing away on a stogie on my deck or while taking my dog for a walk. Usually, a cigar can last up to an hour, but if I vaped that long it would be too much.

I don't fancy walking around with water bottles or using expensive moisturizing sprays and mouthwashes in an attempt to battle the side effects. It's no longer a fun little indulgence and hobby if it's causing me pain. I don't smoke too much that I worry about cancer (everything in life has risks - we all die), but if I smoked frequently I'd probably find a way to deal with it.

I am still actively following the forums because I'm fascinated by the technology. I'm really hoping that e-liquid will improve in quality (possibly with regulation) and that newer liquids will come out that are easier on my poor mouth. :-x

I think a lot of people just don't get enough info, and give up. I had never seen an e-cig until my sister purchased a $160 model at a beauty supply place, the salesgirl told her it was so expensive because it was the BEST! (Smoke Everywhere) Once she got it home, it wasn't as satisfying as her analogs, and she just laid it aside. I got online and found this forum - makes all ther difference. I think mainstream smokers would be interested, but don't want it to be too much work.

I just got my first e-cig a few weeks ago and I'm still playing with it. I really like the flavor and the sensation of vaping but I must admit that I am getting more and more frustrated with the mechanics. I have a 510 and I can't seem to get the flow of juice right. I've tried a couple of mods such as the PTB and ZFM and nothing has worked. I really want something fairly reliable so I can quit my analogs completely but I can't seem to get it right.

I'm not giving up on it yet! I do see how someone could get impatient and toss vaping aside though.

I came back just in time for this one. =D I used e-cigs and loved them. I started with the smoking everywhere which, of course, was just so-so. Then I got a totally wicked DSE901. I had trouble getting into it to the exclusion of analogs at first till I ordered a big bottle of 36.

I eventually crashed. I just ordered anothjer ecig and some juice because I didn't have any gear, and I'm hoping to stay ahead of the game and really stick with it. The #1 problem is supply, supply, supply!!

If corner stores sold this stuff it would be a no brainer, but the lack of availability of ecigs is the game killer! If we could just start selling them in the same places they sell analogs, I don't think I'd ever have a reason to turn back (as long as the super high juice stayed around.)

I think that there is a learning curve to all PV's that folks do not realize when they fist buy them.
My first kit was a Green smoke, and I was frustrated with the fact that I had to recharge the batts every few hours. I had no problems with refilling my cartomizers, but those crapy batts had to GO!! So, I got some of the longer batts, and that helped.

Then, I got a Joye510 kit. The standard issue batts in that kit is even worse, but I anticipated that, and ordered some Mega batts.

I also quickly learned that the white fuzzy stuff inside my 510 carts had to GO also, so I replaced with blue foam, and then I could vape much longer w/o having to refil.

I can understand the frustration folks have with these devices. And if it were not for all the smart folks on this forum, I would have given up!!!!

I am now comfortible with using my PV's and use mostly the eGo, Prodigy V2, and Joye 510 passthrough w/ mega cart and atty.

Once I got used to these things (and all the models are different) all was well with no problems or complaints.

If you have a 510, the first thing you want to do is pull that white fuzzy stuff out of the carts and replace w/ blue foam (which is very cheap at any fish/pet store).

For me, the most trouble free, user friendly and reliable PV is the Janty eGo.
And using the 510 mega carts and attys w/ the eGo is even better.

To anyone interested in buying a e-cig, I recommend the eGo.
It does not produce large dense clouds of vapor, but is very dependible, well made, and
vapes a long time w/o refilling (provided you are using blue foam and soaking it properly w/ juice).

Here is what I have so far in my PV collection:

Janty eGo
Green Smoke w/ mega batts
Joye 510 w/ mega batts, mega carts and attys and a passthrough model
Prodigy V2
BE112 plus a passthrough model
KR808D-1
RN4072 classic pen style
Screwdriver silver MK2 (on order)

I am thinking I must be a collector of these things ! LOL!!

After a couple-3 weeks, I can see how frustration would occur. But I am planning to stick with it because it's better than smoking. The information on this forum has made the difference between walking away from vape as a novelty.

I was lucky to start with KR808D-1, but it has had its frustrations, too. Battery management was a real problem. One battery died within 2 weeks, and the supplier was unhelpful.

I acquired an XL manual and a pass through from another source, and that has been much more satisfactory. It is still a lot of kit to keep track of. It would cost more, but it would be cool if there was a charge indicator (beyond the dreaded flash when it's too late).

I also wish there was a positive external indicator when a cart was done, or a fill level indicator! I never know which one is old, which are fresh, or when I am getting into the burny tasting zone. I like to switch flavors during the day but it gets hard to keep track.

I do have very minor back-of-the-throat irritation sometimes, after a full day of vaping. I don't see my favorites available in VG but I will try that someday.

Also, a full day, especially with the same flavor, can leave a sort of coated feeling in the mouth. I find the best solutions to be a snort of real a) scotch or b) gin.

I sure accumulated a lot of carts that I have no use for. Maybe there should have been a Master Sampler with something more than 5 flavors- I stupidly bought 5 packs of things that sounded good, or based on reviews, when everyone's taste is different. I sure don't want any more menthols, and some of the tobacco substitutes were nasty. Maybe they'll taste better if I come back to them in a few weeks. For now, my favorite is the buttery goodness of Parlament.

I really prefer the hit of 24mg but sometimes keep an 18mg going at the same time, to lessen the impact of heavy use.

I don't know whether I will ever fully quit analogs. If this continues to get me to 3-5 analogs a day (after a life of 20+) then I still feel the benefits outweigh the hassles. Any hobby has a learning curve and the hassles above are cheaper than most.

Also I remain hopeful that we are still at the beginning of what's technically possible with e-cigs (see feature requests, above), and technology can probably fix every minor annoyance I have listed.

i agree with the equipment inconsistencies......right now all i have is a BE-112 from ecigxox.com and the "fiddling" with the cartridge, atomizer and DIY juice has made it into a quest for "at least 5 good puffs for a 1/2 hour of fiddling."

i do have better than average technical apptitude from working on computers, cars etc.....mind you i will admit i am no Nick Tesla etc. etc. etc. but, being 38 and smoking since i was 15 has made this into an obsession over it originally being a quest.

it does seem true though that the "i want it to look like a cigarette" does get passed up eventually for Janty's, Bartleby's and all the "crazy looking" devices but, knowing you will get more than 5 good puffs?

it's hard.....it's very hard......it has always been about flavor and throat hit for me and i seem to be managing the "no nicotine" pretty good. i've been smoke free for a month now aside of the 7 analog puffs i took a few days ago over the frustration of this aside of other life debacles.

i do preach though that it is not a cigarette and it has it's quirks that you have to get used to and the sooner you can manage those quirks the better off you will be for success. being a former heavy smoker to me it is a reliability issue.

plus like others here say, you can't just walk into a store and buy cartridges and so on so the quicker you can get into DIY liquid the better. <lol> all i have to work with right now is USP glycerine, vodka and vanilla extract.....original success has led to more tinkering with the formula and flooding the atty so on and so forth.

this has become rough.....trying to hang on to it as well as my sanity.

i really have to commend the patriarch's of this though....they have kept me going........so far.

i really need a technology hero right about now.....ya know, kinda like the guys over in japan that make robots that can actually receive and kick a soccer ball.

It is very easy to give up if you don't get the right piece of equipment the first time. I bought the Volcano and while their customer service was top-notch their product is lacking, I immediately returned to analogs after 30 min of fighting to try and get what I needed. I was skeptical to begin with, but I decided to prowl around the forums and ordered a 510 and am now 3 days analog free even after a long night of drinking and debauchery. So I believe it is all about the right equipment the first time. Being informed helps. Just my 2 cents

The way it is now, this industry will always be a cult industry. There is no manual that a user gets with their starter kit that says drip this into that and put this in there. No cleaning and maintenance section, no troubleshooting section. No supplier of a PV will hand out a manual that has more than their name and address on it because of the liability issues. Therefore, this forum and others like it are the only users manuals out there. And until there are users manuals, there will be no major demand, which will mean no corner stores....or no e-cig/e-juice section in the cigarette store.

People forget that not everyone in the world sits and surfs the net on a daily basis. 1/2 of my family has to be reached by telephone. My father refuses to own a computer, and many of the people I know who own a computer are too busy to be on a computer more than just to look something up to to email their friends occasionally. Heck, I'm lucky my job isn't blocking this site. I'm sure after awhile they'll figure it out and block it.

They'll want me to buy the stuff for them (because they're not "into" online shopping), they'll bother me when stuff fails (because of too much or too little e-juice) and they'll constantly need a cheering section.
I think the way things are with e-cigs right now one has to be resourceful and I just don't think that everyone has that particular attribute.

...and frustrating. It will be a month this Wednesday since I started vaping with my disposable 510s while awaiting my regular kit. I can't believe how much time I've spent researching and "fiddling", and waiting for supplies. At first, I was eager to experiment with mods and flavors and nic levels and such. Cart mods haven't worked for me (yes, I've tried the *&^ blue foam), so I've given up on everything but finding the right nicotine level.

I haven't quit analogs yet, but I have cut down to about 20 to 30 percent of what I was smoking, and I desire fewer and fewer every day. I also really appreciate all the benefits of not smoking. So I do not plan to give up. I'm just going to reduce my goals to keeping functioning hardware and finding the right nic level for now.
