Right from the beginning:
  • DON'T UNDERSPEND
  • DON'T UNDERESTIMATE
  • DON'T UNDERSTOCK
  • DO GET THE BEST PERSONAL vape SYSTEM
  • DO EXPECT EXPECT TO QUIT ANALOGS - FOREVER
  • DO PURCHASE MORE THAN ENOUGH FROM THE BEGINNING
I have only been vaping for one week. Thus, I am experiencing first hand, the early challenges of switching from analogs to eCigs. I'm sure all the Vets on here can tell you much better than I can, the ins & outs of the best way to Vape, and what systems work best for different applications. But, what I am saying is THIS WORKS, if you give vaping and yourself a chance from the beginning.

Because, it is way easier to buy another pack of smokes than it is to replenish your eCig stock. So, make certain you are ready to go the distance. Don't assume Vaping might not work for you. IT WILL AND IT DOES! Make certain you purchase a system that delivers the correct amount of nicotine for YOU. Spend however much it takes. The first month (from what I can tell) will be expensive - anything is costly when you first "start up". There are costs to any new experience to just get the ball rolling.

I didn't want to "commit" to eCigs at first, so I did one of those silly promotional ads. $4.99 for a starter kit. It tasted terrible, and had lots of small print that was going to cost way more than just purchasing a good Vape system, in the first place. That trial kit lasted one day and I went back to analogs. Then, I saw a disposable (Blu) when I was buying a pack of smokes and decided I'd give eCigs one more chance. Thank God I did. That Blu had 24mg of nicotine and did the trick. Next, I did some research (still had not found this wonderful forum ECF, so googled a lot) and decided on a Pig Cig. I ordered an extra box of Carts and really glad I did, because I am into that box and waiting on juices I ordered to begin refilling my cartomizers with.

I liked smoking menthol, so I ordered menthol carts with my Pig Cig starter kit. But, only received one box of menthol and the other one was "Tobacco" flavor. I didn't realize this until I went through the menthol box of 5, and was still researching what e-liquids I wanted to order. My first thought? Oh, I'll just buy a pack of menthol smokes until I can get a bottle of menthol liquid, because I didn't want to smoke the tobacco flavored carts due to the taste.

Well, I popped open the tobacco carts anyway, and tried one. Not my fancy, but I am into my 3rd day of smoking the tobacco flavor and didn't buy the smokes! I rush ordered my menthol refill e-liquid (a mint one too : ) and I am going to make it. If the tobacco flavored ones run out, I'm down to Walgreens to buy a couple of Blu menthol eCigs.

Switching to vaping from analogs isn't that tough. Actually, it's much easier then smoking (I can do it in the car; I don't stink; i feel better). But, buying eCigs and their supplies is not as easy as analogs. Thus, do the do's, not the dont's.

Have a contingency plan. Walgreens selling the Blu disposables is mine. By the way, the Blu starter kit Walgreens sales is an older one, maybe not the best PV to buy. And, read the heck out of this forum, you'll learn much. What's the most you have to loose? If you do the do's you will be smoke free. And, over a few weeks you will begin to save the dollars and begin to feel better. More importantly, you will save your life.

From my limited experiance I would say jump in.. Spend two weeks of cig money and buy a good system.
I started on a Totally Wicked 510T. I won't knock it because it is what actually got me off the cigs, but in a lot of ways it was wasted money.
In less than a week I ended up spending money on a big batt mod, at day ten I bought a tank.. and here I sit.

It doesn't 'need' to look like a cig.
It doesn't have to be tobacco flavored.

It does need to be easy to use.
It does need to have the capacity in juice and batt to keep you from constantly messing with it.

Thats just two cents from a guy very new to vaping but very succefully killing out the 'craves'.

Massive amounts of truth here. Sometimes it is a matter of order. You can't not overspend because you don't know what the BEST PERSONAL VAPE SYSTEM is until you have tried it and compared. Sometimes people understock because they don't know if they will like a particular flavor or nic strength. Nobody is trying to make this more complicated than it needs to be :) There is just a natural progression until things settle.

The one undeniable fact is that you have a very positive approach and deliver a very positive message. You came here determined!

Welcome to ECF :toast::toast:

Throatkick,

I agree...spending is relative to what works for the Vapor. I guess what I am trying to say, is don't go "cheap". If the adage "you get what you pay for" has ever been true, it surely seems so with vaping. And, the sooner the Vapor realizes this is going to cost some amount of money, maybe the better? I was very naive to think $4.99 was going to get me anything that would work well. LOL

Mrtrucker said it best IMHO: "From my limited experiance I would say jump in.. Spend two weeks of cig money and buy a good system."

If vaping didn't work so dang well, I'd say, move cautiously and dip your toes in first, but I'm am quickly becoming a "jump in and get wet" believer. : )

Thanks TK

I think I will too. With 2 of us vaping in this household, he hasn't quite grasp as to why I buy everything in bulk...or...I'll let him run out of his favorite 5 eliquids so the lightbulb comes on.

Very nice post and I hope many new people coming on to the vaping scene read this. Finding a good kit is the first step. The second is a handful of tasty eliquids.

I think some of my favorite advice for newbies is to just jump in and get started.

There is only so much research you can do, and it is not guaranteed to ensure you get what you need the first time.
In fact, it is extremely difficult to even know what you really need until you get one in your hand and try it.

That's how you really start to learn what you like and what you don't like, what you need and what you can live with.
And even then, you very well may find your preferences evolve over time anyway.

A little research and a few questions can go a long way, but whatever you do, just make sure you get started.
:)

Heck, I'm just going to say it. Spend the money and buy a real starter kit. One with 2 rechargeable batteries. One with refillable cartomizers, or a tank. A kit that has great reviews on this forum. Probably going to cost $50 - $100. Even if that first kit needs to be replaced after a month of vaping and learning, for most PAD smokers, that's cheaper then what will be spent that same month on death sticks. I'll probably upgrade my Pig Cig in the next few weeks. Not that it's a bad unit, but I think I'll just want something different, maybe a little more powerful. Or, maybe I'll add a MOD to my collection. I don't know. All I do know is the first time (especially hard core smoker) should not mess around with the opportunity of quitting. Peace.

Be prepared to spend a good bit on juice finding the one that does it for you.

Spend a lot on hardware? That's completely optional. Now that I know where to look, I can get a vaper up with a couple months worth of hardware for less than $50, and have good long term gear.

OK, maybe you NEED a provari and a darwin and a lavatube, and 4 exotic wood veneer box mods..... Oh, and several of those $200 rebuildable tank attys.....

Agreed. You can get an inexpensive hardware kit to keep you going. The tricky part is nailing down a juice that will keep you satisfied. This is where the bulk of the money goes imo.

Very good advice. I would have to agree with the others that the juice part is really the hardest part. Hardware, you can get a kit for under a 100 dollars and be good for a while just ordeing the needed replacement cartomizers and or attys and carts. Now the juice that's tuff but fun. Almost every flavor one can think of is most likley out there. I find myself ordering stuff from different sites just to try a flavor. I have a few I like I have ordered a few I don't care for.
As for buy enough I just ran into that. I like to start my day with halo freedom juice and I'm about out, went to order more. Out of stock:facepalm: next time ill order a few bottles.

You can make a juice you do not like into a juice that is at least vapable by mixing it with another premade juice, or maybe a few drops of a concentrated DIY flavor. I don't have any juices I consider a total waste of money. Be creative and try mixing, or diluting with PG or VG, or an unflavored nic juice.
