The answers to Questions #3, 4, and 7 are of particular interest to me as it relates to how effective these are for our nicotine habit. I'm hoping that more long-term, (7+ months), mature (over 25) users complete this survey to see how the answers to question 7 are reflected. I started these on 3-14-09 and have not had a regular cigarette since then (except a couple puffs on one in 4/09 - HATED IT!), but I KNOW if these were banned, (and they were not available PERIOD) that I would eventually go back to regular cigarettes. All the other options I've already tried and failed at - I'm not going to pretend that I'd even go down those (NRT/smokeless) roads again. I smoked for 38 years, 1-2 packs/day (with a heart attack thrown in there along the way). It still amazes me that I have NO urges for a regular cigarette. But I also know that is because I have my trusty V4L looking at me, and if that was no longer an option; well, the convenience store is right across the street and I can see the cigarette rack mounted above the front window. I guess what I'm saying is that, I am and probably always will be, a "recreational nicotine user". I've used it for 75% of my life, and chances are, I will for the rest of it - one way or another (I'm REALLY praying for THIS way). So, in my long-winded way, I curious how other "long-term, mature (i.e. old)" users feel.

Question 7 was a bit difficult to answer.

I have been reading a lot on the negative effects of tobacco, especially over the last 4 weeks that I've been tobacco-free - intentionally "brainwashing" myself. I have also forced myself to really think about the way in which my dad's passed away 3 years ago (COPD).

So, I'm at a point right now where I will probably try NRT, but whether or not it will succeed is another story.

whoops... i clicked the wrong answer for #1. i had already quit cold turkey over a year and a half ago.. i just missed the enjoyment of the occasional smoke, however i didnt want to smoke real cigs anymore so i decided to try e-cigs as a healthier alternative. however, looking at the question again i suppose i did smoke tobacco products at some point in time before trying e-cigs.

Kristin,

This poll is a great idea! I joined the ASHline (Arizona Smoker's Helpline) shortly before I discovered E-Cigarettes in my FIRST quit attempt (which didn't work because I didn't know about ECIGS) but now of course on my 2nd attempt after 10 days I am completely analog free and NOT LOOKING BACK. I have a counselor who calls me once a week to check my quit progress and last night when I talked to her and told her how awesome E-cigs are and how EXCITED I AM because I finally quit and how easy it was to quit with E-cigs she said "Well I'll have to check with my supervisor to see if you QUALIFY as being tobacco free because there is a lot of negative controversy and the FDA is trying to ban them, so I'm just not sure you can be considered smoke-free."

I was like...yeah okay, whatever??? (WTF?) I said okay go ahead and check with your supervisor but to be honest, I don't care WHAT they say, I AM smoke-free and tobacco free and it was only because of E-cigs that I can say that I believe with 100% surety that I will never smoke another analog again.

I'm sure it will all turn political and the FDA will end up banning it once the big tobacco companies realize how much $$ they are going to lose and bully them around, but if the FDA really cared about the people and our health, they would BAN ANALOG and PROMOTE VAPING!

Anyway...the poll is a good idea, if we could ever get FDA to listen. Thanks for taking the time.

We really don't need the extra anxiety created by the ill-informed.
~that SHOULD be embracing vaporizers with open arms. What they need to be focusing on is the real danger of the fragrances they're wearing.

I really don't know what I'll do if they ban vapor. Not go outside in the winter I guess. ~...unless I hold my breath.

This already WAS the last resort...tried it all... the patch .. Zyban x2 Chantix..cold turkey..gum... everything for years.

This is the FIRST effective method... & I'm almost there... (3-5/ryo/day)AND..... probably would be a complete success if I wasn't having to worry about neuro toxic fragrance wearing nitwits that have already succeeded in screaming loud enough to force me... and the rest of the tobacco et al addicted victims -globally afaik- to have a sole choice of carpet glue and mothball combo FSC added.....as if the multitude of chemical & other toxins weren't already enough. Now THAT is ok... chemically treated stinky ones are perfectly legal. Vapor w/ trace amount of nic only... pfffft nope. Absurd.

That was the push right there that I needed to seriously consider my health. I was amazed at just HOW much safer this alternative is... around 95 %. For the first time in 4 years... no more phlem...less asthma inhaler... not a single potentially fatal asthma episode... a few itchy throat fragrance encounters... the preliminary warning... but no scary throat closures/gasping for air.... IF I can stay far enough away from them.... which limits my life. Restaurants & every other social gathering are risky and life-threatening. Their toxic perfumes are legal... & the secret formulas are protected. (look into THAT!! ...some seriously scary ingredients!)

Why they have the right to assault me and others with compromised respiratory systems and/or chemical sensitivities with dangerous fumes, that have a potentially fatal outcome, but scream about a harmless vapor mist is mind boggling.

Serious lack of research..or willfull ignorance?

Great Poll

1.5 pack a day smoker since 1962, quit the day I got my 510 ecig Oct 28, 2009. I use 0% nic juice most of the time but may put 1 drop of 24mg/ml once or twice a day.

No desire to do analogs from the beginning of vaping.

I'm damn tired of all these idiots trying to protect me from myself. I'm almost 60 and have survived many things that would make the hair stand up on most people. The only thing I need protecting from is the whining idiots that are trying to protect me.

Awww come on man, the FDA is now going to use that "1" non smoker as their entire campaign against PV's. You ruined it for us all! j/k : )

I can see it now... “Ecig forum poll shows that PV's attract non smokers.” What they won’t mention is its 1 vs. 1000 and that one just clicked the wrong box when taking the survey.

When we post these results elsewhere we need a footnote on Q1 to reflect this information.

I don’t think that vaping appeals to kids because “it doesn’t look cool” to most of them. I have been out at the bar and had some people I don’t even think were legal to drink comment on how it doesn’t look like analog smoking so they were turned off by the concept. I don’t even bother making comments to these people anymore; they will be dead soon enough from analogs. At least they will look “cool” toting around that portable oxygen!
