BNEAT, I'm planning to rebuild my single coil Kanger Protanks so that I can get appropriate resistance to use with my istick. Curious what build you generally use on the Kangers. Also, specifically... I see some people pay no attention to the coil winding whether they touch or equal spacing. Others use the torch and squeeze together method. What are your thoughts on this? Does it make any difference in performance or longevity of the coil with the Kangers? What wick material are you using and do you put a flavor wick on top . I also saw one guy advocating a wick on top and one below the coil. He claimed one below the coil prevents flooding and one on top prevents hot spitting into your mouth.

Wish that guy would come back and respond because I'm slightly interested as well. I've been rebuilding for about 2 1/2 months now. All the youtube videos tell you to put a torch to it, but I was too lazy and cheap to do that. I do briefly put a lighter to the wire. I find that the wire wraps slightly easier if you do this. Then I push it with my fingernail against the end of the screwdriver to compress it. After I fire it for testing, I take my tweezers and compress it together one last time and center align it.

I've always wondered why everyone says to compress it considering all the kanger coils from the factory have the wraps with big gaps in them. I think it's just to make sure the wraps don't touch the ends of the base or something. Not sure. I just do 6 wraps of 32 gauge and it comes out to around 2.2/2.3 ohms. Works pretty well on the lowest setting of the istick, but I do notice some rattlesnaking at times, which kind of annoys me. After some use and rewicking sometimes it goes to around 2.4 to 2.5, or it's just an inaccurate reading.

I do think that the itaste mvp2 gives a slightly smoother vape than the iStick, but I refuse to take it out of the house anymore. It's just too big. It's much easier to carry if you're wearing baggy pants or jeans, but it's bulky if you were anything form fitting. Also, the intermittent center pin issues I got after a month were maddening.

I use rayon. I used to do a flavor wick, but I realized after a while that it restricts the air flow a tad, and it makes the coil take longer to wick and be useable because 2 wicks need to saturate.

I rebuild with 30 gauge Kanthal. I do 6 raps, and most come out at 1.7 . I do wrap around 3/32 drill bit. I roll cotton and feed thru coil . Then put some cotton on top as flavor wick .You have to experiment with how much. It's fun and only takes minuets.

I really like how small this thing is. My Sigelei is embarrassing to take in public and my itaste vv 3.0 doesn't hit like the sigelei does - so ive been in a bit of a waffle/pickle trying to find a SMALL compact, not ugly, easy vape that can go up to 20watts with a Nautilus aspire tank.

This might be it for me guys ! Thanks for calling this to my attention.

For those who are still getting burnt tastes, and dry hits with their current toppers, a simple low cost solution would be Redneck PWM - Manual VV/VW.

If you pulse the fire button on and off three or four times while you are taking a puff, it will lower the coil temperature and give your topper time to draw in more juice, while cooling the coil with the air flow.

I've been able to vape a 1.8Ω bridgeless 510 atomizer at 8.4 volts (39 watts) without any burnt taste by simply pulsing the fire button. Did it as a proof of concept, not my ADV....

He responded one page back....but didn't really address compressing the coils together. He recommended rayon as a wick material too. Guess I will reconsider wick material. I was leaning toward cotton just cause it's so readily available. Thanks for your input as well.

You might also consider the joyetech egrip. I was strongly considering it, but the price of the replacement coils listed was a deal breaker for me. You might like the form factor . Here's a link to it: Joyetech eGrip

I went with the Istick too...and it should arrive soon.

The thing that I am unsure of about those are that you are not able to remove the tank to clean it. I have seen a reviewer say that he just put it under running water but, think of the possibilities of getting water inside the mod doing that. Maybe there is something that I don't know about it but, that just does not sound like a great idea to me.

Yes that was another consideration. A couple of the reviewers have stated the cleaning wasn't bad at all... but I wasn't completely convinced it was a great design either. But, I am sure real world experience with it will be forthcoming. I see a number of members appear to have ordered them.

Leekeylee - I think you got lost in here. :D As for your bad threads, try to find a tap to clean up the threads with. Not sure exactly what size the 510 threading is? Anyone? If you aren't sure about doing it, do you know a mechanic? They could help you out. Then, you probably want to get a 510 to 510 adapter and leave it on there. Good luck!

It's an uncommen thread, and you will need a 510 Bottoming Tap.....http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/30256-taps-dies-901-801-510-4xx.html

You can try and see if a 510-510 or 510-eGo adapter will screw in enough to make contact, and just leave the adapter in place.

I always compress my coils, but it never really made sense to me, I just did it because that's what all the big kids were doing, LOL! I'm currently vaping the first spaced coil I've made in over a year. Some of the people in the Rayon thread are saying spaced coils gunk less than compressed coils, so, if that's what the big kids are doing now...

As far as cotton goes, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but Rayon is better in every way. And if there's a Sally's Beauty Supply near you, then there's a $12 lifetime supply waiting for you there.

Fatdaddyvapes has a 510 repair insert, they work pretty well. Scroll down to hardware in the shop section.

Stripped that thread? These 304 stainless steel inserts will do the job. Drill with an M8.5 bit (after stripping that thread, it is already 8mm), Hand tap with a M10X1.5, and thread it in. You can use brass nut included for hollow mods like the Grand Vapor line and Nemesis by drilling a 9.5mm hole.

Item does not come with drill bits or taps.

Heads up -- Innokin hopes to have the MVP3 available by Christmas.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Innokin/comments/2ilnip/innokin_itaste_mvp30_official_reddit_announcement/

Higher capacity battery, spring loaded connector, 30 watts.... and more!

Eleaf had best get crackin' on the iStick2. As a low watt, 100% VG, factory single coil user, the iStick1 (adorable as it is) just isn't cutting the mustard for me. I won't be purchasing a second unit until the wattage/voltage issues have been corrected.

So folks, any bets on which will become available first... the iStick2 or the MVP3? I'm hoping it will be the new improved iStick... but I'm quite willing to make room in my Xmas stocking for a shiny new razzle dazzle MVP3 instead. :D

It's a wonderful time to be a vaper. :)

I think the biggest feature for those here is the power step down that's lacking in all current DNAxx and clones.

It sure is a great time to be a vaper.

Just a couple of notes for ya'll.
I have used the micro coils (that is what it is when you compress the coil together) and I've used the reg coils, vertical and horizontal. I find that it really depends on the deck I am building on as to which method I prefer. The smaller the area to work in the micro coils seem easier to use/make. It's really up to each individual to decide what helps with flavor etc. Same for what wicking material you use. I love rayon and it is easily attainable from Sally's Beauty supply as mentioned above but you can also get it on amazon. $6-$7 dollars for like 40 ft. Cotton & Rayon in the first few puffs has an off taste but it does go away. However my favorite wicking material is hemp hands down. Anyhoo...........have a great day and vape on!

Just got my istick in the mail today. This thing is freaking awesome. Out performs my old ego twist with out a doubt, put my evod clearo on it set it to the same voltage setting I had on my ego, and the hit was much smoother. This guy is actually even smaller than I thought it would be but it feels so good in my hand. So happy I got it.

Got my blue istick in today and Im really liking it so far using my KF @ 1.8 ohms and rayon. I got it for $35.99 from vapenw, ordered on 10/10/14 received 10/15/14 which isnt bad at all since I ordered it friday afternoon and there was no shipping on Monday due to Columbus day. As long as it keeps performing well I will be ordering a second one for myself and one for my dad for an Xmas gift.

What is the deal with demanding more and more watts? According to all the charts I have seen, the perfect watts for vaping is approximately 8 watts.
What gives with the higher watts/voltage?

There is no "perfect" wattage for vaping. It all depends on the device one uses and its wicking ability--long story. Commercial coils can't wick fast enough to keep the coil cool so they are limited to about 8 watts of power (per single coil) to perform best. RBAs are a different animal altogether--with a properly coiled and wicked Kayfun, for example, one can vape at much higher wattages. Most experienced vapers have their sweet spot on those--usually under 20 watts, though. AFAIK

Having said that, vaping and cloud chasing have become a bit of a competitive sport for some. ;)

    This too shall pass. Hopefully.
