I got an istick this week from ebay. The box has a scratch off number for authenticity and references www.eleafworld.com. I've looked all over that site and can't find where to verify the numbers. Anyone know?

I asked about this a few weeks ago when I got my first one and nobody had info.

The "D" boards seem to be something Evolv makes for Protvaper and Vapor Shark rather than it being a retail board. I recall someone kvetching that there were some sort of issues replacing one of the VS dna chips with a retail Evolv chip because of differences. If someone is planning on doing a DIY board upgrade it would probably be a very good idea to double check.

These mods use the "D" designation and Protovaper lists the dna 40D chip in the product description as what is used in their XPV DNA-40D. Doubt if these are all typos.
XPV DNA-40D with Temperature Protection
Vapor Shark rDNA (DNA40D Pre-Order)

Interesting. The first time I saw that, I thought it was just a typo. I didn't even notice VS was using 40D on their site and I'm getting one. Maybe the "D" is for the daughter card (usb charger?) that piggybacks on the board?

All I can recall is one person complaining about something being different with the VS board and the retail board they had. I don't mod so haven't a clue if they were even right about their complaint but I wouldn't want someone to spend money planning on doing some chip swapping without checking with Evolv first.

I'd send them an email (under Contacts) and ask. Customer service should be able to clarify this.

I's possible that code may be only for returns/exchanges/warranty issues, not online verification, but I may be wrong.

I did just that earlier today and they wrote back and said to reply back with the numbers and they would manually check it for me. I don't know why they went to the trouble of creating a system and then not automating it on their web site. But whatever...

If you Don't use Ni200 for a Coil Wire on a DNA 40, then Isn't the Temperature Control Non-Functional?

Correct. Ni200 is necessary for full functionality. There is allowance for use of titanium wire with inaccurate but consistent temperature readings. Otherwise, the DNA 40 works with full features, minus the temperature control.

I finally got my Istick and I love it. Question about charging. Should I plug it in and charge it every night even though the power is still half full or should I drain to close to dead before charging? Thanks.

I'm not a big fan of overnight charging (ANYTHING). And as much as I like this little thing, I simply don't know enough about it's build quality to trust it on a charger while I sleep.

Don't take that as a knock. I trust NOTHING on a charger while I sleep. It's just me.

Lion batteries do not need to be drained like NiCad batteries and have no memory. In fact it's better for battery life to charge before it's drained, so charge when you feel the need.

Thanks, D. Any thoughts on the overnight thing? Am I just being paranoid?

A little imo. I do charge my gear overnight. Cellphone, laptop, and ecigs. I do not charge eGo batteries since I don't trust a $1 charger though.

But you are right, there is some risk in charging batteries. I just feel comfortable with my 18XX batteries charging in the kitchen in quality chargers and my Istick next to my cellphone on my nightstand. I just don't have the free time to babysit charging batteries. Figure between my dog, smoke alarm, and abundance of insurance I'm OK.

LOL! Hard to argue. And thanks.

I fly RC aircraft and have learned (the hard way) about battery safety.

If you're concerned you can place the device your charging on something like an old ceramic dinner plate . Better a scorch mark and mess on an old plate that on a wooden nightstand or kitchen counter.
